Horn Usage?

I hope that never happens to me. I work in a deli and get VERY irritated just when people waste my time while I'm waiting for them to get off the phone to help them.

I used to work in a coffee shop....ooooo that would irritate me so much, I feel for you! I always make sure to be off my cell when I'm at a checkout or something, and if I'm not I at least tell the person I need to call them back and then apologize to the cashier.

Everyone deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect.

I don't even own one of the damn things! It's great!!!

The cellphone is a useful tool. But most people on their cells are inconsiderate, rude, and (in the case of driving) endangering the public. It, like anything else, is great when used properly...not when it is a social crutch.

Being on a cell is fine when you are not in a social situation, or when it is an emergency, but you need to pay attention to the people around.

I honk the horn all the live long day. The vision has a problem with the alternator going from time to time (bad ground, overheating, poor design- teh arguements are abound). Anyway- the horn going from a loud beep to a slight pop or nothing is a good sign that trouble is ahead.

Other than the random check the circuit honks, I've found that horns are rarely effective on the bike. People hear a horn but rarely see you and understand where it's coming from. It's better to drive defensively and when they cut you off, hold your horn, move next to them and waggle your finger.

i've never honked at another rider ofcourse...

but i always honk at anycar that either cut me off or trys to crash in to me either on purpose or on accident....if either is on purpose...the honking is followed by some more unappropriate things.

The wimpy little Nikko horn that comes stock on the Bonneville is totally ineffective. Use it, don't use it, doesn't matter 'cause no one can hear it. For Christmas I received a nice 125 db horn. That sucker is loud!!

Ironically, since I've put it on the bike, I haven't had to use it. Startled myself badly, though, when I hit the horn button while groping for the turn signal cancel!!!

Use it all the time, high beam, hazard lights, bright clothing, LOOK OUT SAPAUL COMING THROUGH. I make a right nuisance of myself all the time. Do they hear me? Sure. Do they see me? Sure. Do they swear at me? Who cares, I have selective hearing anyway. Oh and custom ear plugs.

I've used my horn a lot. I want to beef it up, but the engine is blacked out and I'm looking for a loud sucker that's also black. No luck so far. What would really be cool is one that sounds like those old school ones that sound like a submarine's warning that it's going to dive:

"AAAAAAAOOOOOOOGGGGAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"

I also don't think people hear biker horns a lot becuase we tend to be more concentrated in that split second it's needed with getting out of that situation.

I don't know about the submarine sound, but there's a good page of motorcycle horns at http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Brow ... 11/c-10111. Most are chrome, there's a couple of black ones. I have the third one up from the bottom, it's nothing special to look at but does the trick.
