Forgot to do something...

When I put my bike away for winter I forgot to change the oil as I usually do, I am kind of worried, will this have any effect on the bike? I put it away in december (kinda late i know) and just slipped my mind.

Is it safe to start in less then a month, planning to take it and get an oil change as soon as the horrid snow goes away,

Change the oil before you start it up!

wont the oil be all viscous and be all that much harder to change the oil now? its around -12 here..... plus I never changed the oil myself :S nor do I have the tools.

It's been sitting around for months. Just be sure to let it drain fully.

And you might want to wait for it to warm up just a tad before you change it, unless you plan on riding at -12

The manual says to torque the drain plug and filter to a certain Nm I do not have a torque wrench, any recommendations on a torque wrench or even if its required... changed the oil on my old gs500 but this has specific torques...

It's not a big deal. Every vehicle has torque specs for the bolt. Just tighten it down.

Talking to a friend and he said that it should be ok to drive it to the service center.... just worried its my baby :S

I might have to change the oil myself the fairing is hell and i have an alarm too so even more fun :S

Any suggestions?

It's not going to be that big of a deal either way, really. But, personally, I would not try to fire up my engine with oil that has been sitting around static in the crankcase for over 3 months.

You'll probably save yourself a ton of money by doing your own anyway

Grab a manual or grab a friend and change the oil yourself.

My local dealer charges $80 including filter and oil for an oil change on my v-strom.

Were I to buy a socket set, a torque wrench, catch pan, funnel, synthetic oil and a nice filter it wouldn't cost me that much. Though I usually just use dino oil and a filter for a total cost of $15.

It's very easy, open fill spout, put catch pan under oil drain bolt, remove drain bolt, let drain, replace drain plug

Remove filter, replace filter (if it's a screw on type, rub a bit of oil on the oring).

Add oil

Yay!
