• Alessandro Lupino and the Desmo450 MX finish second in the MX1 Championship
• Simone Mancini makes a comeback, third in race two of the MX2
The Gioiella track in Castiglione del Lago, in the heart of Italy, an historic track managed by the Moto Club Trasimeno founded in 1908, hosted the sixth and final round of the Italian Pro Prestige Motocross Championship today. The Beddini Racing Ducati Factory Team riders were the stars of the show, with Alessandro Lupino competing in the MX1 class and Simone Mancini competing in the MX2 class.
Third in the premier class timed practice, Alessandro failed to find a strong start, crossing the finish line in 12th place on the first lap. With an excellent pace and a solid comeback, the Fiamme Oro rider demonstrated a great feeling with the Umbrian track, climbing to a third-place finish. At the start of the second heat, Lupino took the holeshot on his Desmo450 MX, starting ahead of everyone, but the race was suspended after 3 laps due to an accident behind him and was not restarted, with the first heat’s result counting as the day’s result. The Italian MX1 Championship thus concluded with Lupino taking third place on the podium and second place overall in the Elite class, with the Viterbo native finishing first overall in the Italian riders’ standings.
In MX2, it was a positive day, but one hampered by difficult starts for Simone Mancini, who finished timed practice second in his group. At the start of race one, the Italian rider crashed on the first lap and restarted last, managing to work his way up to tenth place. The start of the second heat was also complicated, with the Beddini Racing Ducati Factory Team rider crossing the finish line in thirteenth place on his first lap. Simone showed off his full potential on his Desmo250 MX, finishing third behind Lata and Grau, both riders competing in the MX2 World Championship. Mancini’s fifth-place finish today prevented him from reaching the Elite class podium, but it did earn him third place in the MX2 standings reserved for Italian riders.
Alessandro Lupino: “I’m happy with my riding today. We tried some new things on the bike, and I immediately felt very comfortable. I had fun riding, which means we’re headed in the right direction. At the start of the first race, due to contact with another rider, I started from the back and had to come back, but I finished third with a good pace. In the second race, I managed to get a good start and led for three laps, then the race was canceled due to an accident.”
Simone Mancini: “It was a pretty positive Sunday. It’s a shame about the start of the first race, because I was in the top 10 when a crash on the first lap forced me to restart from last, climbing up to tenth place. In the second race, I got a bad start, outside the top 20, but I made a great comeback, finishing third. Now we’re heading to the final EMX250 race of the year in Turkey.”
