2016 Zero SR Review

2016 Zero SR on www.Totalmotorcycle.com

Greater acceleration…

The Zero SR shares the same DNA as the Zero S but is built for riders who simply want to go faster and accelerate harder. Featuring a larger 660 amp motor controller, the Zero SR delivers 25% more power (67 hp) and 56% more torque 106 ft-lbs). To accommodate the increased output, its motor uses higher temperature magnets to ensure better performance during hard riding and extended periods at higher speeds.

With more torque than most 1000cc sport bikes, the Zero SR pulls hard off the line…and just keeps pulling. Launching from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds en route to a top speed over 100 mph, the Zero SR offers spirited riders an edge in competitive riding. From lap times at the local track day to sweeping the podium at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Zero SR is fundamentally changing the way electric motorcycles are perceived.

2016 Advancements

A New Driving Force.

By constantly advancing the state of the art, the Zero S and Zero SR not only eliminate gasoline from your daily commute or weekend adventure, they transform into a motorcycle that’s the closest thing to a magic carpet. For 2016, that magic carpet travels farther and can recharge three times faster.

At the heart of each Zero S ZF13.0 and Zero SR model is a new and innovative Z-Force® motor. Fundamentally redesigned, the interior permanent magnet (IPM) configuration produces power more efficiently, cools more rapidly and has greater thermal capabilities; significantly improving performance during hard riding and allowing higher sustained speeds.

To expand riding opportunities and provide access to the growing public charging infrastructure, Zero has effectively tripled charging speed with the new Charge Tank accessory. Leveraging the popular J1772 standard, the Charge Tank is designed to work with level 2 charging stations. ZF9.8 power packs can now be charged to 95% in about two hours, while the new higher capacity ZF13.0 takes about three hours.

New cell chemistry within the Z-Force® power pack stores more energy and operates more efficiently, resulting in a system that boasts the highest energy density in the electric vehicle industry. The power pack requires no routine maintenance and is backed by a 5-year/100,000 mile warranty.

As Zero continues to raise the bar on its highest performance models, proven technology makes electric motorcycles even easier to own. With its impressive power-to-weight ratio, the 2016 Zero S ZF9.8 delivers the thrill and convenience of electric at a new lower price.

Game Changing Z-Force® Power Pack

150+ Mi Range / 300,000+ Mi Lifetime

The Zero S and Zero SR feature advanced cell chemistry and battery management systems that provide greater capacity and range. Not only does the ZF13.0 power pack enable you to go up to 197 miles, it is also designed to last the life of the motorcycle. The result of cutting edge research and development, each cell in the power pack is individually controlled and monitored to ensure maximum health.

· Available in two configurations: ZF9.8 (121 mi) and ZF13.0 (161 mi)
· Compatible with the Power Tank accessory which adds 2.8 kWh of power pack capacity for a city range of up to 197 miles
· State-of-the-art 102 volt power pack configurations and cell chemistry · Cells last 2,500 full charge-discharge cycles before hitting 80% capacity, yielding as much as 362,000 miles on the original power pack
· Highest energy density in the electric vehicle industry yields significant range and performance advantages
· Elegant low resistance and highly robust cell interconnect technology

· Advanced battery management system with enhanced 24/7 cell monitoring
· Isolated power systems and 12 volt system for running accessories

· Replaces the tank bag area of the motorcycle
· Not compatible with the Charge Tank accessory

Revolutionary Z-Force® Motor

Up to 67 hp, 106 ft-lbs… and incredibly efficient

Zero Motorcycles designed the Z-Force® motor from the ground up to be compact, efficient and powerful. It delivers exhilarating acceleration to a top speed of 102 mph on the Zero SR. Completely air-cooled, the motor provides a fantastic riding experience, minus the need for any regular maintenance. When slowing down, the motor generates electricity that is channeled back into the power pack to help extend ride times.

· Designed from the ground up by Zero Motorcycles to be the world’s most efficient, powerful, compact, brushless and sealed air-cooled motor
· Interior permanent magnet (IPM) design on Zero S ZF13.0 and Zero SR increases efficiency, cools more rapidly, and has higher thermal capability
· Produces up to 67 hp and 106 ft-lbs of torque as configured in the Zero SR
· Requires no routine maintenance
· Operates with such high efficiency that it does not require any complex cooling system
· Quad-level regenerative system recharges the power pack when decelerating · Re-gen level is increased during brake application vs. “neutral” deceleration
· Both braking and “neutral” re-gen levels are set higher in Eco vs. Sport mode
· “Custom” mode performance profile can be set using the Zero Motorcycles App

· Zero SR model contains high temperature magnets for better performance at higher sustained top speeds

Zero S Electric Motorcycle Frame

Frame and Bodywork

Great to look at. Even better to ride.

Aircraft grade aluminum is exclusively used in the construction of the twin spar frame. It is lightweight, strong and one of the main reasons that the motorcycles handle incredibly well. Designed to have a low center of gravity, the motorcycles are highly maneuverable and responsive. The refined appearance is completed with sleek bodywork with a contemporary, aggressive and naked look. The ‘tank’ section of the bodywork features an integrated storage compartment that is both lockable and removable. The tank section can also be replaced with the Power Tank accessory for greater range or the Charge Tank accessory for faster charging.

· Beautifully sculpted bodywork and chin fairing provides improved cooling of the powertrain
· Integrated, lockable and removable storage compartment
· Extremely rigid and lightweight black twin spar aircraft grade aluminum frame
· Designed to have a low center of gravity for better maneuverability and responsiveness
· Sleek headlight and LED tail light
· The headlight, dash, key switch and bodywork are refined to provide elegant instrumentation and a sleek front end aesthetic

Showa Suspension
