2023 Yamaha Tricity 125 Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits
New EURO5 Blue Core engine
For 2022, the new Tricity 125 is equipped with the latest EURO5 compliant engine that has been designed and manufactured with Yamaha’s leading Blue Core technology that minimises emissions while ensuring highly efficient performance. Featuring a durable forged piston and a newly designed cylinder head, as well as a larger intake valve and increased compression ratio, the Tricity 125’s new engine now benefits from Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology that ensures good acceleration with lively performance and reduced fuel consumption.
New Starter Generator Control Unit and Smart Motor Generator system
The new Tricity 125 is equipped with a 32-bit Starter Generator Control Unit (SGCU) that fully integrates the new engine’s electrical and electronic functions, including fuel delivery, power generation and Start-and-Stop system to ensure more environmentally friendly performance. This SGCU also governs the engine’s new Smart Motor Generator system, which combines the functions of the previous model’s separate generator and starter motor into one compact unit.
This new Smart Motor Generator system turns the crankshaft directly, eliminating the previous system’s sound of meshing gears and thereby ensuring extremely quiet starts and restarts.
Quiet and intelligent new Stop-and-Start system
The quieter and more efficient engine starting system is a particularly significant feature that complements the Tricity 125’s new Stop-and-Start system to make this accessible commuter scooter less intrusive and more enjoyable to ride in urban traffic.
The Stop-and-Start system is designed to shut off the engine when the Tricity 125 is stationary at traffic lights and the machine restarts automatically when the throttle is turned. For optimum efficiency, the SGCU constantly monitors riding conditions and prevents overly frequent stops and starts in situations such as congested traffic where the machine may be stopping and starting every few seconds.
Stable three-wheel layout with twin leaning front wheels
What makes the Tricity 125 unique in the 125cc category is its three-wheel layout with twin leaning front wheels that give an increased feeling of stability, whether riding in a straight line or during cornering. The high levels of traction provided by two front tyres combined with the confident stance of the three-wheel layout ensures a unique riding experience, making the Tricity 125 an ideal choice for new riders as well for those who may be moving from two wheels to three wheels.
Optimised LMW Ackermann steering layout
Featuring the same basic linkage design as the system used on the prestigious NIKEN Sport Tourer motorcycle and the Tricity 300, the Yamaha-exclusive LMW Ackermann steering system on the latest Tricity 125 has been optimised for 2022 and features a revised layout with the lean axle slightly offset from the steering axle. This latest design ensures that the left and right front wheels always carve a concentric arc even in a deep lean, giving a more natural and intuitive feel and making it easy for riders to stick to their chosen line.
The Tricity 125’s two front wheels and the revised front end linkage design promote feelings of riding confidence – especially on wet or bumpy surfaces. This aspect of the Tricity 125’s character is particularly significant for beginners with a A1-licence who are moving to the Tricity 125 from a car or public transport and who may have limited two-wheel riding experience.
New frame for excellent riding comfort and feelings of stability
The Tricity 125 is equipped with a new frame design that features a number of refinements, including a 60 mm longer wheelbase and revised engine mounts, which are aimed at achieving a better overall balance and giving enhanced comfort and riding enjoyment.
While featuring the same fundamental layout as the previous model, the 2022 design benefits from increased levels of torsional and longitudinal rigidity, together with a finely tuned level of flex that contributes to the scooter’s natural handling feel. Together with the revised steering characteristics of the latest LMW Ackermann system, the newly developed frame gives an excellent ride quality with high levels of comfort – even when riding on uneven or cobbled surfaces.
Uprated twin shock rear suspension
For a high-quality ride together with excellent shock absorption properties, the twin shock rear suspension system has been refined to match the revised frame design. The overall length of the rear shocks is increased to give 90 mm of smooth and progressive suspension movement that ensures excellent rider and passenger comfort. The spring rate and damping strength have also been increased, resulting in stable rear suspension operation – even when carrying a passenger and riding over poor quality urban streets.
Optimised Unified Brake System (UBS)
For confident and controlled stopping, the Tricity 125 is equipped with a Unified Brake System (UBS) that automatically distributes the braking force to the front and rear wheels when the rear brake is applied. On the 2022 Tricity 125, the distribution of the braking force between the front and rear brakes has been optimised to ensure smooth and stable stopping power.
New LCD instruments with smartphone connectivity
Tricity 125 riders can stay connected when they’re on the move by downloading Yamaha’s free MyRide app to their smartphone and pairing it with the scooter by entering the VIN number. Once connected, the rider can view real-time notifications for incoming calls, social media, email and text messages from their smartphone on the new LCD instruments – enabling them to stay in touch.
Tricity 125 owners can also use the MyRide App to view a range of data like fuel consumption. It’s also possible for riders to compare riding data with other Yamaha MyRide users and share their riding experiences and export journey information, as well as linking up with other MyRiders to view photos, compare routes and check out new places to go.
The new connected instruments are developed from the design used on the larger Tricity 300 and feature a range of easy-to-read machine running information, as well as the previously mentioned smartphone notifications. The new design underlines the shared technology in the Tricity range and reinforces the premium look and feel of this unique commuter.
Smart Key operation
For added convenience, the Tricity 125 can be operated keylessly whenever the rider is carrying the Smart Key with them in a pocket, wallet or bag. The machine detects the presence of the Smart Key and allows the rider to turn the power on and off, start the engine, release the handlebar lock and open the seat. It’s a small but useful feature that helps to make for a more enjoyable ride.
Larger footboard area/improved passenger footrests/broader headlight beam
Rider and passenger comfort is a top priority on the Tricity 125 and the 2022 model features a larger footboard area with increased space at the front, which enables the rider to adopt the most relaxing riding position.
Another improvement is the fitment of newly designed passenger footrests that are easier to flip out from their folded-in position – and for excellent night-time illumination, the headlight’s reflector has been refined to give a broader spread of light on both low and high beam.
Detailed styling improvements and new colours
With sporty and contemporary styling that emphasises its modern, light and agile character, the Tricity 125 is one of the most distinctive models in the 125cc scooter class. Subtle revisions have been made to the bodywork around the footboard area and main ignition switch and a newly designed rear mudguard has been introduced to match the various technical changes to the new chassis. The Tricity 125’s side silhouette reinforces the machine’s sense of performance and front-end stability and conveys this commuter scooter’s universal accessibility and ease of use to prospective owners.
Tricity 125 will be available in two new colours: Petrol Blue and Sand Grey – and both models will also be available in Matt Grey.
