HISTORY
First introduced in 2004, the CRF50F was designed to make off-road riding accessible and fun for young riders, combining Honda’s proven engineering with user-friendly features. The model follows in the footsteps of legendary small-bore Honda trail bikes including the Z50A and XR50, and like those machines, it has welcomed legions of new riders to the world of off-road motorcycling. Over the years, changes to the CRF50F have been relatively minimal, as the original formula continues to work very well. In fact, the model is well established as a staple of Honda’s youth-focused dirt bike range.

In an extensive new-model announcement today, Honda unveiled a sweeping overhaul of its 2027 CRF450 Performance models, highlighted by the most comprehensive update to the CRF450R in a decade. Developed with direct input from HRC’s factory racing programs, Honda’s new flagship motocrosser combines a lighter, more powerful engine with comprehensive chassis and suspension revisions for a more capable, more confidence-inspiring race machine that gives riders a clear competitive edge.
The announcement spans the brand’s complete dirt bike portfolio. The same improvements to the CRF450R extend to its HRC WORKS EDITION and RX siblings, while the CRF250R, CRF250R HRC WORKS EDITION and CRF250RX receive targeted updates. Also returning are the trail-and-tarmac CRF450RL and the Baja-dominating CRF450X. Meanwhile, the CRF Trail family continues to spread the love of off-road adventure far and wide.
“Off-road riding is in Honda’s DNA, and our fully revamped 2027 450 CRF Performance models—developed alongside HRC’s factory racing programs—reflect everything we’ve learned at the highest levels of competition,” said Colin Miller, Manager of Experiential Marketing at American Honda. “That philosophy extends across Honda’s broader off-road lineup, from our three updated CRF250 models to the dual-sport CRF450RL, the rugged CRF450X, and the CRF Trail family that introduces new riders to the sport. Whether you’re chasing championships, exploring the backcountry on the weekend, or getting your young riders started on two wheels, there’s a CRF that’s just right for you.”

DESIGN / STYLING
With a kid-friendly layout and low seat height, the CRF50F is unintimidating for young new riders, but serious features mean this motorcycle also delivers performance.
Inspired by the CRF Performance line, the stylish bodywork provides a sporty, authentic touch and helps kids to play Jett Lawrence make-believe. A narrow, 4.3-inch-wide seat; slim, .7-gallon fuel tank and extra-low, 21.6-inch seat height make reaching the ground easy for a wide range of young riders. The motocross-style handlebar is fitted with a padded protector and high-quality, comfortable grips. Folding, cleated foot pegs ensure secure footing, even in muddy conditions.
ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN
For youngsters who are new to riding, the priority is having fun, while parents typically look for reliability and ease of maintenance. The CRF50F’s little power plant delivers both, along with a quiet exhaust note. The dependable 49cc single-overhead-cam four-stroke engine delivers smooth, easy-to-use power, making it ideal for beginners. With a 10.0:1 compression ratio, it offers good performance and easy kick-starting, while the CD ignition and automatic cam-chain tensioner minimize maintenance. The 11mm piston-valve carburetor ensures excellent fuel mileage and responsive throttle performance across the rpm range. A smooth-shifting three-speed transmission and automatic clutch make takeoffs and operation simple, while the durable #420 drive chain guarantees reliable performance.
Designed with practicality in mind, the CRF50F features a USFS-approved muffler and spark arrester for quiet, safe operation, along with a closed-crankcase ventilation system to safeguard against engine-oil contamination.
The adjustable throttle limiter lets parents control maximum power, and the keyed ignition switch helps prevent unauthorized use, ensuring safety for young riders. Maintenance is simplified with an easy-access, cleanable foam air filter.
CHASSIS / SUSPENSION
A high-tensile steel frame and swingarm provide a balance of strength and compliance. The inverted telescopic fork boasts 3.8 inches of plush wheel travel, while the single-shock-absorber rear-suspension system offers 2.8 inches of well-damped travel. The 10-inch front and rear wheels each have 28 spokes, die-cast-aluminum hubs and drum brakes, while the wide, long-wearing off-road tires provide exceptional traction. The suspension spring and damping rates are optimized for rider comfort and bump absorption.
