2027 Kawasaki KX85: SMALLER WHEELS FOR SMALLER FOLKS.
Introducing the 2027 Kawasaki KX85…
The Kawasaki KX85 and KX85 L motorcycles are purpose-built to develop the next generation of motocross talent, combining race-proven two-stroke performance with a chassis inspired by Kawasaki’s full-size KX lineup. Both models feature a liquid-cooled 84cc engine with a piston-reed valve intake, Kawasaki Integrated Power-valve System (KIPS), and a 28mm carburetor, delivering crisp throttle response, strong mid-range drive, and impressive top-end performance. A durable, high-tensile steel perimeter frame is engineered for optimal rigidity and precise handling, while lightweight aluminum components –including the handlebar, steering stem, and rear sprocket – contribute to enhanced agility and responsiveness. The standard KX85 is equipped with 17” front and 14” rear wheels, while the KX85 L utilizes larger 19” front and 16” rear wheels to better suit taller riders and provide increased stability at speed.
Suspension and braking components are designed to deliver confident handling and consistent control across a variety of track conditions. A fully adjustable 43mm KYB inverted front fork with Kashima-coated outer tubes provides smooth, responsive damping and strong bottoming resistance, while the Uni-Trak® rear suspension system offers progressive action and full adjustability, including compression, rebound, and spring preload.

CHASSIS PERFORMANCE
A COMPETITIVE EDGE
A large 43mm inverted front fork features both adjustable compression and rebound damping for a precise suspension setup, while the fully adjustable Uni-Trak® rear suspension is just as versatile. Larger brake rotors along with Dunlop’s latest Geomax MX34 tires offer enhanced grip and stopping power.
BIG-BIKE STYLE SUSPENSION
The highly rigid, fully adjustable KYB 43mm inverted front fork on the KX™85 motorcycle provides excellent damping characteristics and bottoming resistance, allowing riders to attack the track without sacrificing ride comfort. Rebound damping adjust gives riders the ability to precisely refine their settings to match track conditions and personal preferences. The Uni-Trak® rear suspension is fully adjustable with both low- and high-speed compression adjusters. On the KX™85 L, 12-in rear-wheel travel matches that of the full-size KX™ models, contributing to greater control at higher speeds and improved bump absorption.
STOPPING POWER
Just like the larger KX™ models, the KX™85 motorcycle is equipped with petal disc brakes front and rear. The front brake disc diameter is 240mm and the rear brake disc diameter is 220mm. The master cylinder and caliper body are the same Nissin units used on the KX™250.
INCREASED TRACTION
Outfitted with Dunlop Geomax MX34 tires offering optimum traction, strong grip under braking, predictable cornering grip, effective slide control, and mud-shedding ability, the KX™85 features 17-in front and 14-in rear wheels while the KX™85 L is equipped with larger 19-in front and 16-in rear wheels to accommodate for taller riders.
STRONG & RIGID
Equipped with a sturdy high-tensile steel perimeter frame designed to harness the engine’s power, the chassis of the KX™85 offers the advantages of strength and torsional rigidity, allowing riders to push harder on the track.
ENGINE PERFORMANCE
WINNING POTENTIAL
The high-performance, 84cc, 2-stroke engine produces crisp, responsive power and offers proven durability to finish each ride with confidence. A 6-speed transmission and manual clutch allow racers to hone shifting skills for maximum performance.
AMPLE POWER
Designed to deliver ample power across the rev range and strong top-end performance, the 84cc, 2-stroke engine offers winning potential in highly competitive classes.
PERFECT PAIRING
A 6-speed transmission complements the engine power and manual pull-type clutch actuation offers smooth operation. A separate clutch cover provides easy access to the clutch for maintenance.
KEEP YOUR COOL
The radiator shroud design promotes efficient airflow to the radiator, enhancing cooling performance.
STYLING & ERGONOMICS
FIT TO WIN
The ERGO-FIT® adjustable handlebar, featuring 8-position mounting adjustability, allows for an ideal ride position and enables the bike to grow with your young rider. A roomier riding position and high-grade ergonomic components help accommodate a wide range of riders, making it easy to find a comfortable fit on the bike.
KX™ FAMILY STYLING
Inspired by Kawasaki’s full-size motocross machines, the bodywork of the KX™85 motorcycle completes the bold race-ready look. The shrouds, black rims, and green alumite suspension adjusters round out the factory-inspired style.
KEEP MOVING
The minimalist bodywork, flat gas tank and slim, flat seat were designed to accommodate a wider range of riders and also facilitate rider movement while contributing to strong factory looks.
ENHANCED COMFORT
A factory-style aluminum Renthal® Fatbar® handlebar contributes to light weight and shock absorption. ERGO-FIT® handlebar mounting adjustability offers a choice of 8 positions allowing riders to tailor their riding position. The handlebar is paired with ODI lock-on grips, offering excellent grip feel. Wide footpegs provide excellent grip, mud-shedding capability, and facilitate weighting the pegs.
FIND YOUR FIT
A wide handlebar and optimized footpeg position offers a rider triangle with ideal comfort and room for active body movement. Two size options make it easier to find the ideal fit: the KX™85 has a 17-in front/14-in rear wheel combo while the KX™85 L is a large-wheel version with 19-in front/16-in rear wheel for taller riders.
