TRIUMPH INTRODUCES THE NEW BONNEVILLE T40 AND T40 BLACK

AUTHENTIC BONNEVILLE EXPERIENCE

Triumph Motorcycles introduces the new Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, extending the appeal of the iconic Bonneville to more riders than ever before. Powered by a new iteration of the 400cc TR Series engine, the new models combine timeless design and beautiful craftsmanship with contemporary capability, delivering an authentic Bonneville riding experience.

The latest additions to Triumph’s Bonneville and 400cc line-ups, the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black capture the timeless appeal and unmistakable character that have defined the Bonneville for generations. Both models embody the spirit of 1960s cool through their authentic proportions, beautiful finish and enduring style. Signature Bonneville design cues include the sculpted teardrop fuel tank, classic round headlight, traditional engine profile, spoked wheels and twin-shock rear suspension.

Crafted with the meticulous attention to detail that has long defined the Bonneville name, the new T40 and T40 Black deliver authentic style and exceptional quality throughout. Heritage-inspired two-tone paint schemes, hand-painted coach lining and premium materials create a timeless and distinctive appearance, while beautifully finished details such as the brushed peashooter silencer and classically shaped aluminum engine covers reinforce their unmistakable Bonneville style.

Powered by a dedicated version of Triumph’s 400cc TR Series engine, the T40 features a unique engine tune developed exclusively for the Bonneville, delivering a relaxed, torque-rich power delivery. Combined with a distinctive exhaust note, the result is a riding experience that remains true to the character of the Bonneville.

Setting a new benchmark for technology in the category, the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black combine classic Bonneville styling with an unprecedented level of rider-focused technology. A new 4-inch circular TFT display provides full smartphone connectivity, including navigation, phone and music control, while five riding modes, cruise control, lean-sensitive Optimized Cornering ABS and Optimized Cornering Traction Control deliver a level of functionality and rider assistance normally associated with larger-capacity motorcycles.

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black have been developed to deliver an accessible and confidence-inspiring riding experience. Relaxed ergonomics, a low seat height, which can be reduced to just 770mm with an accessory low seat, and lightweight handling make the motorcycles approachable for a wide range of riders. Complemented by a modern chassis and lightweight aluminum rims, the result is easy maneuverability, agile dynamics and everyday riding confidence.

Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer, Triumph Motorcycles, said: ““The Bonneville is one of the most significant motorcycles in Triumph’s history, so introducing a new model carrying that name comes with a responsibility to get it right. From the outset, our ambition for the T40 and T40 Black was not simply to create a smaller Bonneville, but to create a motorcycle that delivers the style, character and ownership experience riders expect from a genuine Bonneville. Bringing that experience to more riders is strategically important for Triumph, particularly as lower-capacity motorcycle categories continue to grow around the world.

“Working closely with Bajaj, we challenged ourselves to retain the details and qualities that make a Bonneville special, from the proportions and finish to traditional touches such as hand-painted coach lining, while also introducing a level of technology and rider-focused innovation not previously seen in this category. The result is a motorcycle that stays true to the values that have defined the Bonneville for generations while opening the experience to even more riders.”

AUTHENTIC AND ICONIC DESIGN

The Bonneville T40 carries the unmistakable design DNA of the larger models in the Bonneville family. Flowing lines, balanced proportions and heritage-inspired details create a classic silhouette that is instantly recognizable as a Bonneville. The teardrop fuel tank, round headlight, longer mudguards and peashooter silencer define the overall shape, while classically styled forks, twin rear shocks and spoked wheels complete the look. Together, these elements bring the timeless appeal of 1960s Bonneville design to today’s riders.

At the heart of the T40’s iconic silhouette is its teardrop fuel tank. Its flowing shape and balanced proportions give the motorcycle a confident, elegant presence from every angle. Heritage-inspired paint schemes, finished with hand-painted coach lining, emphasize the form of the tank and reinforce the attention to detail. Classic rubber knee pads and the iconic three-bar Triumph tank badge bring together design, tradition and craftsmanship.

Central to the T40’s front profile is its classic round headlight. Creating an instantly recognizable front end associated with Bonnevilles past and present, the LED headlight incorporates a distinctive signature, combining modern functionality and visibility with the timeless simplicity of the traditional Bonneville design.

The clean, uncluttered profile of the 400cc TR Series engine makes it a focal point of the T40’s silhouette. Bright machined cooling fins on the cylinder head and large finned header roses provide a nod to the Bonnevilles of the past. Classically shaped clutch and alternator covers are finished in brushed aluminum, adding a premium appearance that complements the motorcycle’s timeless styling.

Traditional spoked wheels provide the finishing touch to the T40’s classic Bonneville design. The 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels combine lightweight aluminum rims with traditional steel spokes, providing strength and durability while helping the handling remain easy and agile. The open design of the wheels also complements the clean lines and balanced proportions of the motorcycle.

The suspension set-up further reinforces the T40’s distinctive Bonneville silhouette. Classically styled front forks give the motorcycle a refined and instantly familiar front profile, while the twin rear shocks preserve the open, uncluttered appearance that is a hallmark of Bonneville design. Together, the forks and twin shocks ensure the T40 remains true to its heritage and recognizable as a Bonneville from every angle.

METICULOUS ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Each Bonneville T40 and T40 Black is finished by hand, with close attention paid to the materials, finishes and smaller details throughout the motorcycle. Deep paint finishes and hand-painted coach lining feature across the three two-tone T40 color schemes, retaining a traditional technique synonymous with the Bonneville range.

The choice of component finishes distinguishes the two models. On the T40, chrome-finished mirrors and grab hoop are combined with brushed aluminum heel guards and a brushed steel exhaust system. On the T40 Black, components are painted or powder-coated black to complement its darker overall treatment.

Modern engineering has been carefully concealed to preserve a clean appearance. Cables and hoses are routed out of sight, allowing the uncluttered profile of the single-cylinder TR Series engine to remain a prominent part of the motorcycle’s design.

Triumph branding appears on key components rather than relying solely on prominent badges. It is embossed into the handlebar clamp and front mudguard and also appears on the engine covers and within the front and rear lights. These details become apparent on closer inspection and contribute to the overall quality of execution.

The Bonneville T40 is available in three distinctive heritage-inspired color schemes. The Meriden Blue and Tangerine Orange scheme offers a bolder treatment, combining heritage tones with a vibrant accent that draws attention to the tank profile and hand-painted coach line.

New England White and Jet Black completes the range with a more understated contrast, creating a refined and timeless appearance.

The T40 Black introduces a darker, more purposeful interpretation of the same classic Bonneville design. Finished in Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black, it features gloss-black aluminum wheel rims contrasted by bright steel spokes. Powder-coated engine casings, together with a blacked-out header and peashooter silencer, give the T40 Black a subtle modern edge while retaining the traditional proportions and recognizable design cues of the Bonneville family.

BONNEVILLE CHARACTER FROM A DEDICATED 400CC ENGINE

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black are powered by the latest iteration of Triumph’s liquid-cooled 400cc TR Series engine. A revised cylinder head and dedicated Bonneville engine tune give the single-cylinder engine its own performance and character, combining modern performance and intuitive throttle response with the torque-rich delivery expected of a Bonneville.

Courtesy of a revised cylinder head and dedicated Bonneville engine tune, the T40 delivers increased torque lower in the rev range, with peak torque of 26.55 lb-ft (36 Nm) at 5,000 rpm providing strong drive and a distinctive feel. Peak power of 30 bhp (32 PS) is delivered at 7,000 rpm, placing the emphasis on accessible performance at everyday engine speeds.

Three pre-configured riding modes, Road, Rain and Eco, are joined by two customizable modes. Each mode adjusts the throttle response, traction control and ABS to suit different conditions and rider preferences. Riders can select their preferred modes and add them to a quick-access menu on the circular TFT display. Both models feature cruise control, reducing rider fatigue, as well as Lean-sensitive Optimized Cornering ABS and Optimized Cornering Traction Control, which both provide additional support when cornering in varying conditions.

The engine has also been developed to produce a distinctive exhaust note, with clear firing pulses from the single-cylinder engine. The peashooter silencer adds depth to the sound, while a lower idle speed further contributes to the T40’s relaxed Bonneville character.

CLASS LEADING TECH WITH CLASSIC CHARM

A new, class-leading four-inch, full-color TFT display is housed within a circular instrument unit, integrating the technology without disrupting the traditional Bonneville design. Fans of the traditional clocks can also select Heritage Mode, which replaces the standard screen layout with an analogue-style display inspired by traditional Bonneville instruments.

Key riding information, including gear position, indicators, ambient temperature and fuel level, is displayed prominently, while the center of the screen provides access to connected phone functions and motorcycle settings. Five customizable widgets can be configured and accessed through the backlit left-hand switch cube, giving riders quick access to the functions they use most frequently.

Full map navigation is included as standard and powered by the new Triumph Navigation App. The TFT display presents a full map view and speed limit information, while favorite destinations, points of interest and recent searches can all be accessed directly through the display.

The Triumph Navigation App also allows riders to plan routes before setting off, with functionality to discover routes, add waypoints and manage journey details. Routes can be saved, imported via GPX files and shared with other riders, with navigation information displayed directly on the motorcycle’s TFT screen.

Phone connectivity is provided as standard and operated through the TFT display and left-hand switch cube. Riders can answer calls, access contacts and control music playback without handling their phone directly. For quicker access, media functions can also be assigned to the customizable widgets.

The full LED lighting system includes a distinctive headlight signature. Self-cancelling indicators add further convenience, while Emergency Deceleration Warning automatically flashes the rear light during heavy braking to alert other road users that the motorcycle is slowing rapidly.

Braking is provided by a twin-piston front brake caliper, and a one-piece-style front brake disc. Braided brake lines support consistent braking performance and a precise feel at the lever, while Optimized Cornering ABS takes lean angle into account when the brakes are applied.

A USB-C charging socket is also fitted, allowing compatible devices to be charged while riding.

RELAXED AND EASY, YET AGILE AND REWARDING.

The Bonneville T40 features an upright riding position, with the handlebars and footpegs positioned to create a natural riding posture. A classic bench seat remains a defining feature of the T40. Generous foam padding provides comfort for both rider and pillion, while the ribbed seat design reinforces the motorcycle’s heritage styling.

With a seat height of 31.10 in. (790 mm) and a ready-to-ride weight of 421.08 lbs. (191 kg), the Bonneville T40 has compact dimensions and an accessible riding position. An accessory low seat, available in black or brown, reduces seat height by a further 0.79 in. (20 mm) to 30.31 in. (770mm).

Everyday practicality has also been considered, with a center stand fitted as standard. As well as making it easier to store the motorcycle upright, it also simplifies routine cleaning and chain maintenance.

GLOBALLY SUCCESSFUL 400CC PLATFORM

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black join a 400cc platform that has already achieved significant global success, with more than 60,000 motorcycles sold across over 50 countries worldwide. The range has played a key role in bringing new riders to the Triumph brand and contributing to the company’s record global sales growth.

Joining the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Tracker 400 and Thruxton 400, the T40 introduces one of the company’s most enduring motorcycle names to the range. With six distinct motorcycles now available, the platform extends across multiple categories while continuing to deliver the quality, character and individuality that have become hallmarks of Triumph’s 400cc line-up.

ON THE ROAD

A comprehensive range of Genuine Triumph Accessories will be available from launch, allowing owners to tailor the T40 to their individual requirements. The range includes low and comfort seats and classic panniers, enhancing comfort, practicality and everyday usability.

Designed for everyday riding, the Bonneville T40 combines durable finishes with Triumph’s renowned standards of quality and attention to detail. Class-leading service intervals of 10,000 miles (16,000km) help reduce ownership costs and minimize time off the road.

Pricing for the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black will be announced in early 2027, ahead of the first motorcycles arriving in Triumph dealerships beginning late spring 2027.
