– 2005 Triumph Daytona 955i

The Daytona 955i has proved, over the years and miles, that balance is everything. With large amounts of horsepower comes the need for finesse. And while achieving true balance for a sports machine is no easy task, the Daytona 955i excels because it’s been designed, from its inception, as a real world performance motorcycle.

And performance is intrinsic to the Daytona 955i’s appeal. At its heart beats a highly-evolved, fuel-injected 955cc three-cylinder engine that provides a heady peak power output of 149PS, with a great spread of power throughout the rev-range. Peak torque of 100Nm is delivered at 8,200rpm.

Instant drive in any of the Daytona’s six gears is the reward of the three-cylinder engine layout, and Triumph has long perfected the balance between power and usability. The Daytona’s chassis, likewise, provides the perfect blend of stability and responsiveness. The aluminium frame is massively strong as are the fully adjustable 45mm telescopic forks. Also fully adjustable is the rear monoshock, which suspends the elegant single-sided swingarm.

As befits such a powerful machine tyre sizes are 120/70 ZR17 front and 190/50 ZR17 rear, making use of the very best sports rubber. Twin four-piston calipers stop the front wheel via 320mm floating discs and a single twin-piston caliper grips the rear 220mm disc.

Sleek lines add real class and a touch of ‘GT’ style to the Daytona 955i’s multi-faceted persona and its sophisticated ergonomics make for all day riding comfort. New for 2005 is the Graphite frame and swingarm finish, which adds even more to the bike’s understated elegance and subtle beauty. Colour options are Racing Yellow, Tornado Red, Jet Black and the Special Edition, with its Jet Black paint and black-finish frame and swingarm. For 2005 the Special Edition is also available in Racing Yello.
A range of Triumph accessories to further sharpen the Daytona’s focus are available, including a high-level oval carbon can and re-mapped fueling for the EFI (for circuit use only). Other items – such as custom-fit luggage – extend the Daytona’s range as a long-distance real-world sports bike.

Effortlessly blending triple-cylinder brawn with great handling ability, the Daytona 955i is an intoxicating mix. It’s the light with the shade, the rough with the smooth, the sugar and the spice. It’s all of these things, and more. And what’s more, the Daytona 955i has proven consistently to be the intelligent superbike choice, offering as it does a unique riding experience and, in terms of ownership, major rewards and satisfaction. Now that’s a superb balance.
