– 2000 Triumph Tiger
The Tiger offers all of the unique advantages of the enduro-styled sports-tourer concept without many of the compromises often made with machines in this class.
The seating position is exceptionally good for both viewing the scenery and seeing further ahead, enhancing safety and pleasure at the same time. On the Tiger, this has been made adjustable to suit a wider range of riders.
The long travel suspension deals particularly well with poor road surfaces. The springing and damping have been designed with road riding in mind, with high quality components throughout, and along with a purpose built steel perimeter frame ensure that the Tiger has exceptional handling and stability characteristics. Yet it’s still agile enough to be highly enjoyable through a series of demanding corners.
The ingenious design and repeated testing of the frame-mounted fairing have resulted in a high level of weather protection without undue turbulence, while the twin-headlamp specification provides superb nighttime visibility.
The fuel tank has a big, 24 litre (5.3 gal) capacity, considered vital by long-distance riders for minimising refills, but its shape is designed to carry a portion of the fuel further forward, improving weight distribution and allowing the rear of the tank to be kept slim to help rider comfort and control.
Powering the Tiger is an 885cc, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine with the broad spread of torque essential to this type of machine, yet with enough high rev performance to satisfy even sports-biased riders. And however it’s being used, the engine offers the special character of a Triumph triple, sounding superb and remaining endearingly smooth.
The brakes are also typical of Triumph, providing plenty of power even for two-up toureing loaded with luggage, which of course can be carried in the optional panniers designed solely for this machine from the start of its design.
