Aprilia hat-trick in the sprint of the Grand Prix of Great Britain

Saturday on the Silverstone Circuit ended with the first Aprilia monopoly of a sprint race podium.

Jorge Martín was the absolute protagonist of the day, taking pole position in Q2 and setting the new track record with a time of 1’56.160. This is the Spanish rider’s second pole position of the season after Assen, and his second with Aprilia Racing. Behind him on the grid were Raúl Fernández and Ai Ogura, completing the third all-Aprilia front row this season after Mugello and Assen.

Martín then led the sprint race from the first corner all the way to the last, taking his third win of the year after Austin and Le Mans, as well as his nineteenth career sprint race win. This win places the Spanish rider once again in first place of the standings of all-time sprint race winners, tying with Marc Márquez. For Martín, this is also his 35th sprint race podium – a result which ties him with Márquez in this classification as well.

After starting from the fifth spot on the grid, Marco Bezzecchi took third at the end of a sprint race in which he had to reckon with the aftermath of his injuries from the Sachsenring. This is the Italian rider’s third podium of the season after Le Mans and Balaton Park.

Also worth a mention is the performance of SuperFile Trackhouse, second across the line.

Thanks to these results, Aprilia Racing took its first ever sprint race podium monopoly, as well as its fifth sprint race win of the season. Aprilia now occupies the top three positions in the overall standings: Jorge Martín in the lead ahead of Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi.
An extremely positive day overall. I managed the opening laps well and saw that I was able to open up a bit of a gap. However, I began to have some difficulties with the rear tyre from the fourth lap, but despite this, I was able to maintain that margin. I felt extremely comfortable already on Friday, so we need to keep working on the details to further improve this base that we’ve found.
It was a nice race, but rather difficult. In the last four laps, I realized that I had a significant physical drop, especially when I overtook Di Giannantonio, because at that moment I had to start pushing to open a bit of a gap. I’m extremely pleased. It was an emotional moment to pull up to the team and to see everyone so happy.
A very positive day for the whole project. All our riders were very fast both in qualifying and in the sprint race and secured another 1-2-3, so we are very happy. It’s a shame for Raúl, who could have been part of the fight. It was a great joy to see Marco back on the podium in those conditions; it was really important both for him and for us. I’m also very happy for Jorge, because this result is an important step in continuing to score points in both the Riders’ and Constructors’ Championships.
