Ok, did you catch the difference there? If you said, it’s $300 more then winner-winner chicken dinner!! (insert Kawasaki faceplant). Ok, maybe it’s not the specifications, features, weight, power, changing time or range. I mean, is that important in an eBike anyways? Unless you are in Desert Valley, does it matter if it has a 20 mile round trip range? I mean, 20 miles is a long way to take a bus.
I’m so glad you asked, oh wait, you didn’t? But you are still reading this so you MUST be at least entertained. Well, the difference my dear readers, from what I can tell is this:
I feel like it’s a game of “can you spot the differences”. Go ahead, I won’t tell you, there are a few, have fun with it! Maybe get the whole family involved. If it takes you 8 hours the Ninja e-1 bike will be fully changed for your 20 mile ride. (the 2027 version is on the LEFT).
So back to our test rider in Death Valley riding for the safety of Las Vegas from Furnace Creek Visitor Center, by the time you read this they will have rode around 41 miles now. At which time, the eBike says 0% change and rolls to a stop. Ride over. It’s still another 107 miles to safety.
Our rider now must find a charging station close by (good bloody luck) and wait 8 hours to go another 41 miles and then wait another 8 hours to charge to go the next 41 miles and another 8 hours to go the remaining 25 or so miles (that’s 4×8 hour changes if you are keeping track) or Enjoy the 39 hour walk. What would you do?
Thankfully, we didn’t lose a rider in this test scenario. Although if Kawasaki wants to sent out a Kawasaki Ninja e-1 and fly us out to Death Valley I’d be happy to see if this would actually make it (highly doubtful).
So who is the Ninja e-1 for? Very short distance riding, maybe an hour or so. It does go 55 mph (65 mph with e-boost), but ironically if you use e-Boost you’ll never make it 40 miles and if you use 55 mph mode you can’t even ride 55 miles in an hour.
Eventually EV eBikes like the 2027 Kawasaki Ninja e-1 will go 300 miles or more rather than 41 miles. And you won’t have to wait 8 hours to fully charge it. The 2027 Kawasaki Ninja e-1 won’t even age well nor retain much of it’s value in 5 years, kinda like no one really wants an iPhone 4 today, even though at the time the line ups to buy one were out the door.
So for today, take a pass and look to the future in the 2030’s models and let those 2024’s and now the “new” 2027 sit on the showroom floor, maybe you’ll get 50% off next year on it, which might just be ok for a price.
