Can Öncü will start the first WorldSSP race of the weekend in Round 8 of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Donington Park on pole position in the afternoon’s delayed Superpole session.
The Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider leads another R9 1-2, with championship leader, Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) alongside him on the front row in second – 0.301 seconds behind his fellow R9 rider in scorching conditions at the UK venue.
Öncü ran off the track at Turn 11 late in the session but was able to remount and no other rider was able to challenge his pole position time of 1’28.650.
Aldi Satya Mahendra enjoyed a season’s best Superpole to secure fifth on the grid on the second AS BLU CRU Racing R9, with the leading GMT94 Yamaha of Roberto Garcia set to start eighth on the grid.
It was a difficult session for Frenchman Lucas Mahias on the second GMT94 bike, he’ll line up 20th on the grid for Race 1 with Yuki Okamoto (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) lining up 30th.
Lights go out for the first race of the weekend at 14:00 local time on Saturday.

“I feel very good and very happy! We did a very good job, and managed to take the pole – of course we have to work harder as the race tomorrow will be very competitive, but we have to be happy about what we have done today. I am feeling good on the bike, and I am feeling positive ahead of tomorrow’s race.”
