2018 Vespa Sprint 125S Review on Total Motorcycle:

The technology and performance of a 125, the sporty line of the Vespa Sprint, the unmistakable style of a special series.

LEGENDARY BY BIRTH

As its name suggests, this is the sportiest and most dynamic “small body” Vespa in the whole range.

Today’s Sprint builds on the heritage of the sporty Vespas of the ’60s and ’70s whilst retaining the features that made them so successful with the young of the time, such as the sport design saddle, the red rear shock damper and the rectangular front headlight.

These traditional strengths have now been joined by the features and technology of a modern scooter, such as LED lights, analog-digital instrumentation, improved comfort, the safety of the ABS system, a new front suspension and 12” wheels mounted for the first time on a “small body” Vespa.

All this makes the Sprint Euro 4 the ideal Vespa for who anyone who wants to ride round town in style and on something dynamic.

THE UPDATED VERSION OF THE YOUNGEST AND SPORTIEST VESPA: MORE COMFORT, MORE SAFETY, AND A NEW STYLE

EVER MORE TECHNOLOGY, EVER MORE CONNECTED, THIS BOLD VERSION LOOKS TO THE FUTURE WITH A SPECTACULAR FULL COLOUR TFT MULTIFUNCTION INSTRUMENT PANEL

Vespa Sprint is the most modern interpretation of the sports version of a Vespa.

Enriched by the most advanced technical features and designed to achieve the highest levels of stability and handling, Vespa Sprint came to life under the banner of riding pleasure, to translate everyday travel into fun.

Staring in the mid 1960s, a new generation of sports Vespas invaded the European roads. They were small, quick, extremely agile and modern, like the mentality of the young people who rode them. Vespa Sprint is the direct heir to legendary models such as the SS 90 or the Primavera ET3, symbols of Vespa’s historic vocation for brilliance. The new Sprint and Sprint S are designed to combine freshness of style and sportiness with state-of-the-art technology.

Vespa Sprint is heir to a tradition of vitality and youth. It is conceived as an evolution of the Vespa Primavera design and addresses youths of all ages emphasising the sporty styles evoked by its name, legendary by birthright. Vespa Sprint counts on a small and light body, comfortable and protecting, made entirely of steel. It is characterised by very youthful lines, emphasised by a gritty rectangular headlight and is remarkable for its large 12″ wheels, with spectacular aluminium alloy rims.

The 2018 Vespa Sprint benefits from a number of stylistic and technical evolutions. The LED lighting technology, now adopted for both the front headlight and the rear light, boost active safety. The Bike Finder and the seat remote control are standard.

The new “necktie” on the front is a further update to the Vespa Sprint line, distinguishing it from previous versions

Vespa Sprint S

Vespa Sprint S further accentuates Vespa Sprint’s sporty styling and is designed to be the gutsiest of Vespa’s “small body” family. Tthe new Sprint S adds a series of novelties to the already-sporty Vespa Sprint, the first scooter in this class to mount two 12″ rims. The most important of these is the instrument panel technology.

Indeed, the handlebars sport an instrument panel that, like on its “sister” the Primavera S, is a full colour TFT multifunction display. A very significant upgrade once again putting Vespa at the leading edge of its era. The features of the 4.3-inch instrument panel’s are selected from a control on the right hand side of the handlebars and also include the display of all information from the Vespa Multimedia Platform platform.

The instrument panel, as well as displaying all the classic information, such as speed, total and partial mileage, ambient temperature, and fuel level, works as a display for the latest release of the VMP (Vespa Multimedia Platform). The VMP app adds a series of features to the Vespa control panel for processing and managing an incredible amount of information sent to the rider about the vehicle status and the route being followed. The system also allows you to use the keys on the handlebars to answer calls and to use the smartphone’s voice commands to make calls or play music by activating a playlist.

The seat of the new Vespa Sprint S is unique to this model and adds a sporty elegance to the line. The colours are also designed for this specific model that will be available in three colours: Giallo Gelosia (Matt), Grigio Titanio (Matt) and a New Grigio Pastello.

Vespa Sprint and Vespa S are driven by modern one-cylinder four-stroke 125 and 150 cc engines, air-cooled and equipped with electronic injection and 3-valve distribution. Each detail from the exhaust to the inner structure of the transmission casing was designed to provide a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride. The control unit now contains a barometric sensor, which ensures always optimum combustion under all conditions and at all altitudes. The engine power and torque delivered thus reach new levels of steadiness and reliability, also in city traffic, characterised by continuous “stop and go”.

The engines are absolutely environmentally friendly and perform at the top of their category: the i-get 125 cc engine delivers power and torque of respectively 7.9 kW at 7,700 rpm and 10.4 Nm at 6,000 rpm, while the 150 cc reaches a maximum power of 9.5 kW at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 12.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm. These values, together with the well known low weight typical of all Vespas, make the“small body” Vespas especially perky both under city traffic conditions and in open-road stretches. This brilliant performance comes together with extremely low fuel consumption: the special design of the engine and the solutions adopted for the various components make it possible to achieve a consumption of 44.2 km/l for the 125 and 40.3 km/l for the 150, as measured in the WMTC cycle. The large 8-litre tank, gives Vespa Sprint a full riding range: on a full tank, it is possible to cover 364 km with the 125 cc version and 328 km with the 150 cc model.

2018 Vespa Sprint 125S Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

For the 2018 Vespa Sprint has undergone a number of stylistic and technical evolutions. The active safety has been enhanced thanks to the LED lighting technology now adopted on both the front and rear headlights while the Bike Finder and the remote-control seat opener are now standard. Also new is the “tie” featured on the front, an addition that brings the Vespa Sprint line up to date, thus distinguishing it from previous versions.

Vespa Sprint S further accentuates Vespa Sprint’s sporty styling and is designed to be the most spirited of Vespa’s “small body” family. The most important new feature is the instrumentation which, as in the sister model Primavera S, is a full color TFT multifunction display.

Broad range of accessories

As always with a Vespa, the new Sprint also offers a wide range of accessories to customise the vehicle and for greater riding comfort.

The dedicated top box, completely painted in the same colour as the vehicle and enriched by the chromed Vespa badge, can hold a full-face helmet. The top box can be finished with a backrest, covered in the same material as the seat. The chromed base on which the top box is mounted can also be used as a carrier.

Maximum protection is ensured by the anti-chip, high quality, methacrylate windscreen, customised with the Vespa logo, the support rods have a clear finish in line with the other aesthetic details.

Vespa Primavera can also be fitted with a top fairing – available in both transparent and tinted material – that elegantly completes the vehicle’s design.

The chrome-plated front and rear luggage racks are also one of the most classic accessories of every Vespa and testify to the great travelling spirit that every Vespa has always possessed. The new Vespa Primavera is no exception. The front side and rear chrome mudguards elegantly finish the vehicle and protect the bodywork. Both the luggage racks and the side guards are also available with matte black finish, combining style and sportiness, in perfect harmony with the Vespa Sprint style.

The accessory line also includes an internal top box bag, a convenient side stand – in black painted steel (which makes easier to park), an outdoor vehicle cover, and an indoor cover, with a”big logo” and convenient openings to accommodate any accessories, and a rubber mat.

The electronic anti-theft device and the mechanical saddle – handlebar anti-theft device are also available for the Vespa Sprint, in addition to a line of other anti-theft devices. The essential mittens and leg covers are practical and fast to fit, made of thermal material offering excellent weather protection. The leg cover of the Vespa Sprint carries the Vespa logo in metal and provides maximum stability even at high speeds. The saddle cover and anti-theft device are integrated in the accessory.

The range of accessories is complemented by two-colour aluminium alloy wheels that further enhance the Vespa Sprint’s bold and sporty character. Like the black or grey matte fairing cover, the single-seat and the “Sport” graphics.
