2022 Honda CBR1000RR ABS: SUPERBIKE.

Introducing the 2022 Honda CBR1000RR ABS…

When Honda gave the world the original CB750K0, motorcycling changed forever. The first modern inline-four, it could do it all. And today’s Honda CBR1000RR is a direct descendant of that first, revolutionary bike—a spectacular combination of technology, performance, handling and premium build quality.

Our CBR1000RR is available in two versions for 2022—with anti-lock brakes, or with a conventional braking setup. Both offer eye-opening performance. And that’s not because of just how hard they accelerate; it’s because of their precise, immediate, connected handling, their excellent ergonomics, and the direct, connected feeling you get with that winding ribbon of blacktop. This year you’ll see some updated graphics and a delicious red (naturally) color offering as well. Bikes like the CBR is why the world still makes gasoline.

Designed around a “Total Control” philosophy, Honda’s CBR1000RR has always prioritized cornering, acceleration and braking, a combination that has earned the bike legendary status. The model’s enviable racing legacy notwithstanding, this double-R version fills a new, value-dedicated role in Honda’s sport bike lineup, alongside the track-focused CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.

2022 Honda CBR1000RR ABS Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

PERFORMANCE
HI-PERFORMANCE FOUR-CYLINDER ENGINE
Featuring high-compression 13:1 pistons, the CBR1000RR revs like only a flat-plane inline-four can. It also makes ten horsepower more than our previous generation of CBR1000RR.

DUAL-STAGE FUEL INJECTION
The CBR1000RR features two sets of injectors per cylinder for both low- and high-rpm performance, instantaneous high-rpm response and great low-rpm metering and clean running. Refined EFI settings make the engine even more manageable, with smoother throttle response specifically at smaller throttle openings.

Honda ELECTRIC STEERING DAMPER (HESD)
Most steering dampers only sense handlebar-deflection speed. The Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) is way more sophisticated. It also detects vehicle speed, and adjusts damping proportionally. That helps maintain low-speed maneuverability while providing excellent, predictable high-speed handling.

Honda SELECTABLE TORQUE CONTROL (HSTC)
With Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), we’ve got your back, but you’re in control. Here’s how it works: The system automatically adjusts engine power and grip to optimize torque at the rear wheel, reducing rear-wheel slip. You get your choice of five power curves, ten torque-control levels, three engine-braking levels, and now three selectable levels of wheelie control so it’s easier than ever to dial your bike in at the track.

THROTTLE BY WIRE
The CBR1000RR’s throttle-by-wire system works in concert with our Honda Selectable Torque Control. With the two, you get your choice of three engine power-delivery modes, plus two which you can custom program yourself.

HANDLING
LIGHTWEIGHT SUB-FRAME
Almost a full pound lighter than our previous generation, the CBR1000RR sub-frame further refines our mass centralization efforts. Light is always right, and this is the lightest CBR1000RR we’ve ever produced.

GYRO ASSISTED ABS
The CBR1000RR ABS comes with anti-lock brakes. But these brakes go one better, including rear-wheel lift analysis (think hard stopping here), along with a program that takes lean angle into account.

SLIMMER ERGONOMICS
The CBR1000RR is much slimmer than previous models in the tank/seat junction area, and also in the upper cowl (more than 24mm trimmer). This improves aerodynamics, and the narrow tank makes it easier to tuck in.

ENGINEERING
THIN FILM TRANSFER DISPLAY
TFT means an instrument display that’s lighter and easier to read than previous LCD designs.

ASSISTED SLIPPER CLUTCH
Superbikes can deliver a great deal of back-torque through the driveline, upsetting handling—not the CBR1000RR models. Its Honda-designed assisted slipper clutch is the same type used on our MotoGP bikes. The design does away with the need for heavy clutch springs, ensuring full power transmission with smooth shifting and a light clutch pull at the lever.

EFFICIENT RADIATOR DESIGN
Almost an inch narrower than on our previous-generation CBR1000RR, and featuring a high-density core. Plus the radiator tucks in tighter and cools just as efficiently.

DESIGN
FULL LED LIGHTING PACKAGE
Headlights, tail lights, turn signals—with the CBR1000RRs it’s all done with lightweight, efficient, cool LEDs.

2022 Honda CBR1000RR ABS Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN

Renowned for its user-friendly performance, the CBR1000RR’s 998cc inline four-cylinder engine features modern technologies like DLC coating and magnesium covers. Honed through years of racing, where control is key, the powerplant combines high engine speeds with a tractable power curve that suits city streets and canyons just as well as track-day riding.

  • Valve lift and timing optimized for high engine speeds, with a peak of 13,000 rpm.
  • Thickness of different areas of pistons are optimized for minimum weight, and compression ratio is 13.0:1.
  • Piston rings have Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating for a superb sealing property.
  • Air-intake duct and air box design minimizes air resistance. High fuel-discharge pressure promotes fuel atomization and maximizes combustion efficiency, while throttle response is maximized by intake funnels with a slash-cut design.
  • Magnesium construction of the oil pan and ignition cover contribute to a low engine weight.
  • Slipper clutch has a low clutch-spring load. Die-cast aluminum assist cams (transmitting & receiving) contribute to a low weight, while optimized clearance between the cams make for a good clutch-lever feel.
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) measures front and rear wheel speeds and body roll angle to maximize performance in a wide range of conditions. Wheelie control is also standard.
  • The rider can choose how strongly the engine brake is applied when the throttle is closed during deceleration; three levels of adjustability are available, depending on rider preference.
  • A quick shifter allows shifting up or down without use of the throttle or clutch; the driving load on gears is reduced during shifting, simplifying the rider’s shifting process on the track, on winding roads or in traffic. For both upshifting and downshifting, feel can be adjusted between three levels.
  • Adapted from the RC213V-S, the throttle-by-wire system features a built-in Accelerator Position Sensor for optimal response and rideability.
  • Full-color thin-film-transistor liquid crystal meter features Street, Circuit, and Mechanic displays and is designed to not be intrusive for the rider.
  • A five-level Power Selector enables on-the-fly adjustment of riding modes, HSTC and suspension electronics, adapting the machine to changing conditions.
  • Lightweight lithium-ion battery helps centralize mass.

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION

Designed around Honda’s Total Control philosophy, the CBR1000RR’s chassis focuses on light weight and maneuverability, the frame and swingarm striking an ideal balance between weight and rigidity. When combined with Honda’s mass-centralization efforts, the result is a lightweight motorcycle that makes longer days in the saddle less strenuous. Thanks to a narrow, minimalist design that has long marked the CBR lineup, the machine has a striking appearance when parked at the local overlook or in the paddock.

  • Finely tuned frame with uses wall and swingarm-section thicknesses that contribute to light weight and appropriate flex characteristics.
  • Lightweight die-cast aluminum subframe.
  • Wheels have five Y-spokes for aerodynamic stability, while thickness is minimized for low weight.
  • Highly rigid Tokico four-piston opposed radial-mounted front-brake calipers with high-friction brake pads provide strong stopping power.
  • Radiator has a high-density core that achieves high heat dissipation while allowing a narrow width and low weight.
  • Minimalist, aggressive, aerodynamic design achieves narrow widths at front of fairings.
  • Titanium fuel tank is manufactured using ultra-deep drawing process, achieving low weight and high mass centralization.
  • Showa 43 mm large-volume BPF inverted fork and Balance Free Rear Cushion (BFRC) shock.
  • Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) detects vehicle speed and adjusts damping proportionally, helping maintain low-speed maneuverability while providing predictable high-speed handling.
  • Available anti-lock braking system (ABS) features rear-lift control (RLC), for smooth, effective braking on corner entry; braking force is controlled according to lean angle, and hard trail braking is allowed.
  • Headlights, taillights and turn signals are lightweight and efficient LEDs.
