2023 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale: TOP GUN MAVERICK.

Introducing the 2023 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale…

On the spectacular stage of the flight deck of the Cavour aircraft carrierMoto Guzzi and the Italian Navy have celebrated the close ties that have united them for more than one hundred years.

The spread-winged eagle, the unmistakeable emblem of Moto Guzzi since it was established in 1921, dates back to the military service of the company’s founders, Carlo Guzzi and Giorgio Parodi, in the Italian Royal Navy’s Aeronautical Arm in World War One. It was during the war that the two friends, and pilot Giovanni Ravelli, decided to go into motorcycle manufacturing once the conflict ended. Ravelli was killed in an accident in 1919 and was unable to achieve his dream. Guzzi and Parodi chose the Eagle as their symbol in memory of their companion.

The event was an emotional occasion, which included the world preview of the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale, a special numbered limited-edition of the latest arrival in the Moto Guzzi family. A technology-rich motorcycle made even more striking in this exclusive version uniting two great names with indissoluble ties to the history of Italy.

The project was made possible thanks to Difesa Servizi S.p.A., an in-house company of the Italian Ministry of Defence responsible for optimising the Department’s assets over the last 10 years, which granted Moto Guzzi use of the “Aviazione Navale” mark for the production of the V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale.

In marking its centenary in 2021, Moto Guzzi does not just celebrate a milestone but rather a starting point, a base on which to construct the future. The beginning of a new century in which Moto Guzzi will continue to produce magnificent motorcycles, authentic and strong in character.

Oozing with charm and cutting-edge technology, these modern bikes will be proudly made in Italy, as ever, at the Mandello del Lario factory that will continue to be the epicentre of Moto Guzzi passion.

The eagle’s nest will also benefit from a new look, the result of an ambitious project to reconstruct, expand and develop over the coming years. The factory will be opened to the public, becoming a place in which to meet and share the love for motorcycling. This brand-new industrial vision, based on the concepts of environmental sustainability and the efficient use of resources, will serve to promote a totally unique technical and cultural heritage by carefully balancing tradition and innovation, engineering and design.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, a first step towards 2121
“100” as in the history written during its first century, one of passion, skill, innovation, and success, both sporting and commercial. “100” as in the second century that has just begun. “100” to indicate, as is Moto Guzzi tradition, the displacement of the very modern new engine, the basis for a family of new generation motorcycles that will come to light in the future.

The occasion saw the world preview of the V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale, a limited edition of 1913 numbered motorcycles

Packed with technology, the latest arrival in the Moto Guzzi family features a unique livery inspired by the F-35B fighters, making it the most striking model in the V100 range

Produced in a limited edition of 1913 numbered motorcycles, a tribute to the year in which the aviation arm of the Italian Navy was formed, the exclusive Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale is a unique model, starting with its special livery inspired by the Navy’s
F-35B fighter jets. The graphics are a faithful reproduction of those of the aircraft, with the insignia on both sides of the cowl, together with the typical “jet intake” stripes. The livery is enhanced by a low-visibility tricolour rosette on the sides of the fuel tank, the emblem of the Italian Naval Aviation, and the logo of the Boarded Aircraft Unit.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello
The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello opens a completely new chapter in the company’s history; it eludes conventional categorisation, combining brilliant performance with the vocation for travel that lies at the heart of every Moto Guzzi two-wheeler.
This is a Moto Guzzi like never before, whose cutting-edge technology and innovative technical and aerodynamic solutions open the door to the future of the brand. The V100 Mandello is an innovative bike starting with the design which, as always, enhances the unique, inimitable twin-cylinder engine. Lines that eschew nostalgia, offering a modern take on the key elements of the Moto Guzzi stylistic idiom. A watershed in the brand’s history, the bike introduces many important technological innovations: the first two-wheeler with adaptive aerodynamics, the first Moto Guzzi model to feature a six-axis inertial platform, ABS cornering, semi-active suspensions and a quick shift, to name just the most important.
The V100 Mandello is also the first Moto Guzzi bike powered by the new compact-block engine with sophisticated technical characteristics. Tradition is maintained by the 90° V-twin architecture, which guarantees Moto Guzzi’s unique torque delivery and inimitable sound, but the project is completely new and offers impressively brilliant performance: power of 115 hp and torque of 105 Nm, with 82% already available at 3,500 rpm.

Naval Aviation
Italy’s Naval Aviation – Aviazione Navale – is the air component of the Italian Navy, created to operate at sea in close contact with its ships. Its origins date back to 1913, when the Aeronautical Service of the Royal Navy was officially formed.
The Navy’s aviation units are currently headed by the COMFORAER Air Forces Command, which is responsible for the organisation and coordination of the activities of all the Navy’s aircraft, including maintenance, management of logistics infrastructure and training for flight and ground personnel.
Its fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are boarded on vessels equipped with hangars and a flightdeck, on amphibious assault units and on aircraft carriers.
Since the 1980s, Italy’s Naval Aviation has been involved in all the main international operations.

The Cavour aircraft carrier
The Cavour (CVH 550) is a short take-off and vertical landing aircraft carrier, built by Fincantieri. It entered service for the Italian Navy in 2009.
With an LOA of 244 metres and 220 metres of runway, the Cavour is the Italian Navy’s flagship, and one of the most important technological investments of the country’s national defence system.
The Cavour is able to board and operate with all the aircraft used by the Italian Navy: helicopters (AB 212, EH 101, NH 90), AV-8B aircraft and latest-generation aircraft such as F-35B fighters.
The flight deck extends from bow to stern with a runway parallel with the carrier’s longitudinal axis and a ski-jump, to ensure that aircraft can take off with the maximum payload. The hangar is designed to hold up to 12 helicopters or, alternatively, 8 aircraft. Handling operations between the hangar and the flight deck are managed by two 30-tonne elevators. The Cavour is manned by a fixed crew of 550 sailors and can accommodate up to 1,200.

Difesa Servizi S.p.A.
Difesa Servizi S.p.A. is the in-house company of the Italian Ministry of Defence responsible for managing and optimising the Department’s assets. On the market, it provides services for a variety of national and international stakeholders.
Since it was established in 2011, the company has met the need for innovation and promoted the unique values of the Italian Armed Forces, operating in a multiplicity of sectors through meticulous economic management of the defence assets and services entrusted to it.
Difesa Servizi S.p.A. offers a range of goods and services such as economic management of real estate and assets, excluding disposal; environmental optimisation of military units for the production of energy from renewable sources; promotion and economic management of the operations and services provided to third parties by the Armed Forces in the meteorological, health, merchandise, geo-cartographic, aerial and satellite photography sectors; brand optimisation through the temporary paid concession of the logos, denominations and distinctive signs of the Armed Forces; promotion and invoicing of technical activities and services, including those relating to the Ministry’s industrial and production activities, for which a special mandate has been conferred on national and international bodies in the public and private sectors.
Established in March 2010, it began operations in the second half of 2011.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will mark the start of a brand-new chapter in the Moto Guzzi story. A bike that refuses to conform or fit into just one category, it will combine dynamic flair with the travel vocation that lives in the soul of every Moto Guzzi.

A never-before-seen Moto Guzzi then, one characterised by cutting-edge technology, as the brand paves the way towards the future with innovative technical solutions and aerodynamics.

V100 Mandello will also present an innovative design which, as with all Moto Guzzis, focuses on showcasing the unique and inimitable twin engine. Lines that are far from nostalgic and that offer a modern take on the very cornerstones of Moto Guzzi style. This is clear to see in the shapes of the tank, which appear to be moulded directly to the muscular engine heads, in the under-seat side panels, the slots of which are a clear reference to the legendary 1976 Le Mans, and in the top fairing, a tribute to the 1981 Le Mans 850 III. A 21st century bike, in its style and technology, that embodies the character and authenticity typical of all Moto Guzzis.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will represent a turning point in the brand’s history, the project introducing some very important technological innovations. It will be the very first motorcycle to offer adaptive aerodynamics, and the first Moto Guzzi to be equipped with advanced electronic solutions such as the six-axis inertial platformcornering ABSsemi-active suspension and the quick shift, to cite just a few of the most important features.

And it will be the first Moto Guzzi to be powered by the new “compact block” engine, with its sophisticated technical characteristics. Tradition is respected with the 90° transverse V architecture of the twin, which guarantees that unique torque delivery and inimitable Moto Guzzi sound, but the project is in fact all new.

An innovative design has allowed for the development of an extremely compact and lightweight engine, which is 103 mm shorter than the V85 TT small block. The new twin stands out from all the engines recently built in Mandello del Lario for its cylinder heads, which are rotated by 90°, a decision that increases on-board comfort and rationalises the positioning of components in the intake and electronic injection systems.

Its actual displacement equates to 1042 cc, while timing involves a double over head camshaft with finger followers and four valves per cylinder, which are chain driven. It also flaunts a wet sump lubrication system, a liquid cooling system, and a hydraulically-controlled wet clutch.

Performance is second to none, with power in excess of 115 HP and torque of more than 105 Nm, with 90% already available at 3500 rpm and the limiter set at 9500 rpm. Data that effectively showcases the character and power of the new engine, gutsy and with real drive already at low speeds, and able to offer a riding experience worthy of the Moto Guzzi name.

The shaft drive employs a long aluminium single-sided swingarm, now positioned on the left. The drive shaft exit position, much lower with respect to previous Moto Guzzi engines, does away with any suspension reaction owing to the transfer of torque, with no need for linkage on the swingarm. This makes for a smooth ride during both acceleration and release, similar to that offered by a chain drive, but with the typical advantages of the shaft, so less maintenance and greater cleanliness.

The sports character of V100 Mandello does not just have to do with the performance of the new engine, but also the qualities of a compact and manageable chassis, which offers excitement through the turns and fast sections but also real stability over more long-range trips, with that inimitable front wheel feeling, synonymous with fun and riding pleasure. This is also thanks to the steel tube frame with 1486 mm wheelbase, fruit of a first-rate Moto Guzzi construction culture and ideal for showcasing the bike’s agility.

Its touring attitude is boosted thanks to the significant comfort that the generous saddle and active, relaxed riding position afford. The adoption of a single variable-section aluminium handlebar is in line with the philosophy of the model, perfect for ensuring control during sports riding while also offering a higher and more relaxed riding position when touring. Two-person travel is at the base of the project, the passenger able to count on a significant, well padded portion of saddle and practical grab handles, with a posture that ensures a relaxing trip. The comprehensive, dedicated accessories catalogue also includes a set of bike cases, which do not require any additional supports for assembly and contain both the side bulk and weight of the bike. Moto Guzzi technology also contributes to increasing both comfort and air protection, with the world-first adoption of an adaptive aerodynamic system that automatically adjusts the position of deflectors on the sides of the 17.5-litre tank depending on the speed and selected Riding Mode. The fully raised aerodynamic appendages reduce air pressure on the rider by 22%, which brings V100 Mandello close to the level of air protection afforded by more voluminous and less sporty tourers, thanks also to the protection provided by the top fairing, the height of which can be electronically adjusted.

This system contributes to what is a first-rate electronics package, comprising the Ride by Wire electronic accelerator for precise performance and consumption control, the advanced Marelli 11MP ECU, the six-axis inertial platform for effective management of the electronic controls, cruise control, and Cornering ABS to ensure active safety when braking through the turns.

Four Riding Modes are available, namely TravelSportRain and Road. Each of these manages three different engine mappingsfour levels of traction controlthree levels of engine brake and (in the version that introduces them as standard) also calibration of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension , which can adapt automatically, minute by minute, to suit the type of riding and the road conditions, for the best possible bike behaviour in any situation.

As ever, Moto Guzzi technology does not only aim to ensure a safe and exciting ride, but also facilitate life on-board. The rider need only select the Riding Mode that best suits their riding requirements in order to benefit from the best automatic adjustment of the electronic parameters, which can also be personalised so that every rider can find their preferred settings. Also included as standard is the 5″ colour TFT instrumentationfull LED lighting with DRL and the “bending lights” system with a pair of additional lights that illuminate the entire corner, increasing visibility when leaning.

V100 Mandello is available in two versions, which differ in terms of their trim. The more comprehensive version includes Öhlins semi-active suspension as standard, but also the quick shift, heated hand grips, and the Moto Guzzi MIA multimedia platform that allows a smartphone to be connected to the instrumentation via Bluetooth to extend its functions. Moto Guzzi MIA includes both the infotainment system for management of the voice assistant, phone calls and music via the intuitive handlebar controls, and the GPS function, which allows the rider to view directions directly on the instrument panel once a destination is set on the smartphone.

Are you ready for a brand-new chapter in motorbike history?

The V100 Mandello is the perfect fusion of the dynamism of a Roadster and the comfort of an authentic Tourer. A bike that makes every corner a thrill and even the longest of trips supremely comfortable for rider and passenger alike, it is packed with new technologies that portent an exciting future, including unprecedented adaptive aerodynamics.

Power and versatility
Just the merest touch of acceleration and it’s clear that this is a grunty bike even at low speed. Its 115 horsepower and 77 ft-lb of torque at 6750 rpm are complemented by a quickshifter for seamless gear changes and an outrageously dynamic riding experience.

Sporting credentials to be proud of
The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello’s compact body delivers a sporty experience on twisting roads and outstanding stability and handling, making it ideal for longer trips. Whatever the scenario or required riding style, it trumps in terms of resilience, precision and sheer enjoyment.

Dynamic control
Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension delivers exceptional control and dynamic feedback. Whether you’re bent on a sporty ride or taking to the road for a long trip, the Riding Modes function automatically adjusts the suspension for optimal performance on any type of surface and in all conditions.

Category-breaking adaptive aerodynamics
The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is the first motorcycle in the world to incorporate adaptive aerodynamics, which reduces air pressure on the rider by automatically adjusting the position of the deflectors in line with the speed and selected Riding Mode. One of the many other features designed for enhanced riding pleasure and stress-free travel is Cruise Control.

Ready for anything
The V100 Mandello is designed for long trips, which is why it comes with Cruise Control for a comfortable ride, and kit such as side bags with a built-in attachment system. The idea is that the weight of the bags is distributed in such a way as to optimise the bike’s weight and bulk, without compromising stability and control.

A bike built for two
The seat-handlebar-foot peg triangle is the result of a meticulous mission to create ideal aerodynamics and ergonomics. The riding position is supremely comfortable, the foot pegs are positioned to relieve knee stress and the variable-section aluminum handlebar takes the pressure off the rider’s wrists. On top of all this, the passenger gets to enjoy a large, well-padded saddle, ensuring a comfortable ride on even the longest trips.

Adaptive aerdoynamics
The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is the first motorcycle in the world to incorporate adaptive aerodynamics, which automatically adjusts the position of deflectors on each side of the fuel tank, depending on the speed and selected Riding Mode, thus providing improved comfort and air protection.

Full-LED lighting
One of the many standard features that are anything but standard is the full-LED lighting package with cornering lights for improved visibility and safety. Taillight are also in LED, while the DRLs trace the unmistakable form of the iconic Moto Guzzi Eagle. (LED indicators will not be available in the US)

Advanced electronics
The V100 Mandello is a concentration of a century of technological innovation, including Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension, a Ride by Wire electronic accelerator with four Riding Modes, 6-axis inertial platform, ABS cornering for exceptional braking on the straight and through turns alike, Cruise Control and a 5-inch color TFT instrument panel. Last but not least is Moto Guzzi MIA, the system that connects your smartphone to your bike so that it effectively becomes a comprehensive multimedia platform.

The V100 Mandello is the first Moto Guzzi to be powered by the new compact block engine which respects the traditional 90° transverse V architecture, but features liquid cooling. The 1042-cc engine is a lightweight and compact thing of beauty, coming in at 103 mm shorter than the V85 TT small block and delivering 115 horsepower and 77ft-lb of torque at 6750 rpm. It comes with a wet sump lubrication system and hydraulic wet clutch.
