Lighter, sharper handling, with an all-new frame, more compact body and improved smartphone tuneability, the new generation YZ250F is ready to continue a legacy of dominance in the 250 class.

Based on the championship winning YZ250F, the WR250F is tuned with enduro specific settings to bring the fun and provide the fastest way through technical single-track. With details like Yamaha’s revolutionary front-intake, rear-exhaust, liquid-cooled, DOHC four-stroke power plant, wide-ratio transmission and a range of off-road features, the WR250F is equally at home on the trail or at the racetrack!

As soon as you ride the latest generation YZ250F you’ll feel the difference immediately. Featuring a lower center of gravity, the lightweight bilateral aluminum frame and revised KYB suspension with new suspension linkage gives you increased levels of agility for faster cornering and rapid directional changes. And with a much fatter seat, with one piece single cover, and narrower radiator shrouds the enhanced ergonomics provide increased controllability.

Yamaha pioneered wireless engine tuning, and the latest YZ250F is equipped with an uprated Power Tuner system with a ‘Quick Tuning’ function that makes it easier to choose the best mapping and maximize your performance at different tracks. And with the Power Tuner App’s lap timer you can see which settings are reducing your lap times.

THE LIGHTER, SHARPER, MORE ADVANCED: YZ250F

The YZ250F is a favourite choice for riders who want the ultimate combination of controllable power, agile handling and Yamaha durability. With a Grand Prix-derived chassis, ultra-compact bodywork and an uprated engine, the latest generation YZ250F is like the bike you already love, only lighter, sharper and more advanced!

The chassis comes straight from the outstanding YZ450F that won numerous MXGP and Supercross races in its first season. Featuring revised geometry, a new rear suspension linkage and revised factory settings at both the front and rear improve traction on corner exit, taking the YZ250F’s renowned agile handling to the next level on track.

2025 Yamaha YZ250F Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

Bilateral aluminum frame

The latest generation YZ250F uses the same frame design as the MXGP race-winning YZ450F. With a lower head pipe and revised tank rails this lightweight bilateral aluminum frame’s improved handling enables you to corner faster and smoother. The lower centre of gravity and reduced weight make the YZ250F more agile than ever – and the revised balance of rigidity and YZ250F-specific engine mounts give plenty of feel and feedback.

Optimized rider ergonomics

The rider triangle accommodates riders of varying sizes and physiques, offering better ergonomics with enhanced rider mobility and increased controllability. And the side panels give a tighter and lighter look, while the front fender improves airflow to the radiators for consistent cooling.

Responsive top-end power

The YZ250F is already regarded as one of the most competitive and responsive 250cc 4-stroke engines in the low to mid-rpm range. The latest rear duct air-management system together with a reprogrammed ECU boost the top-end engine performance, making this Motocross Grand Prix race winning machine even more competitive for every rider.

Efficient air-management

The high-rpm engine performance has been lauded by the press and owners alike, and the body width is kept to a minimum by the efficient air-management system that channels fresh air from the rear through the spaces between the fuel tank, frame, seat and sidepanels. When it reaches the lightweight airbox the air is pre-cleaned by a vortex that throws particles to the side, reducing air cleaner clogging and making routine maintenance easier.

Revised suspension settings

The YZ250F’s KYB front forks are widely regarded as being amongst the best in class, and the latest generation bike features revised fork settings as well as a hand-adjustable compression damping adjuster. The link-type Monocross rear suspension and KYB shock with new suspension linkage for increased traction on corner exit also runs revised settings.

Modified exhaust to meet 2025 FIM regulations

The YZ250F’s exhaust system has been modified to meet the FIM’s 2025 noise regulations, while retaining the bike’s renowned controllable power characteristics and ride.

Low friction cam chain

The YZ250F’s reverse-head engine is equipped with a low friction cam chain that is designed to accommodate the increased top-end power.

Lightweight components

Yamaha’s designers have focused on saving weight wherever possible while maintaining the YZ250F’s reliability and durability. Significant weight reductions have been made to improve power to weight and handling capability.

Advanced traction control and launch control systems

The 2025 YZ250F is equipped with the latest electronic technologies that give you the highest levels of controllability. The launch control enables you to set your maximum engine launch rpm when the gate drops for holeshot winning performance. And the traction control system offers two levels of assistance as well as an OFF function.

ENGINE

Advanced 250cc Four-Stroke Engine

The YZ250F’s liquid-cooled, DOHC 4-valve, fuel-injected powerplant features a forward-positioned straight downdraft intake with symmetrical intake ports, high-spec piston and aggressive cam profiles. The advanced four-stroke engine is known for its broad, useable powerband and class-leading low-end and mid-range torque.

Piston, Rod & Crankshaft Balance

A forged piston features a bridge-box design for maximized strength with minimal weight. The piston, rings and DLC-coated piston pin, along with the offset cylinder configuration, all reduce friction loss. Intake ports, cam profiles, high-strength connecting rod, optimized crank and counter-balancer all work together to produce potent high-rpm power with user-friendly delivery and exceptional reliability.

Advanced Fuel Injection

The adjustable fuel injection system uses a 44mm throttle body, fed by a high-pressure electric fuel pump, to inject fuel through a 12-hole Denso® injector. This ensures optimum fuel atomization and air/fuel calibration for excellent rideability in a wide range of riding conditions.

Innovative New Yamaha Power Tuner App

The free-of-charge Yamaha Power Tuner App brings the power of the GYTR® Power Tuner to your iOS® or Android® device. Using wireless connectivity to talk to the bike’s onboard electronics system, the app allows owners to adjust air/fuel mixture and ignition timing to tune engine character for track conditions, log track set-up information, and monitor a range of data such as maintenance and system diagnosis, engine run time and more. The user-friendly app also features an intuitive “Simple Tuning” slide bar for engine mapping, Traction and Launch Control tuning, lap timer, along with helpful engine and suspension tuning guides.

Adjustable Engine Maps & New Switchbox

A newly designed handlebar switchbox allows on-the-fly selection between two preloaded engine maps with the push of a button, making it easy to make immediate adjustments to changing track or weather conditions, and a new raised rib helps the rider avoid pressing the wrong button while wearing gloves. Maps are loaded and configured within the Yamaha Power Tuner App.

Traction Control & Launch Control

The Traction Control System communicates wheel slip to the ECU, tuning the engine to maintain ideal rear wheel traction. Three levels can be selected: HIGH, LOW or OFF. The updated Launch Control System now features an rpm limiter which can be adjusted in 500 rpm increments between 6,000 rpm and 14,000 rpm for optimized launches when the gate drops. Both systems are controlled through the Yamaha Power Tuner App.

Optimized Air Intake

The optimized intake path draws air from under the side covers and seat more efficiently, resulting in a boost in mid- to high-rpm performance and improved over-rev characteristics. The design also allows radiator shrouds to be slimmer and the airbox cover to be lower and more narrow.

Wraparound Rear-Positioned Exhaust Layout

An innovative exhaust pipe design improves mass centralization and power characteristics. This layout moves the rear end of the exhaust pipe farther forward and positions the muffler closer to the bike’s center of mass.

Durable Clutch

The YZ250F features a large-diameter 15 plate clutch to withstand the high demands of motocross racing.
