HISTORY
First introduced in 2004, the CRF50F was designed to make off-road riding accessible and fun for young riders, combining Honda’s proven engineering with user-friendly features. The model follows in the footsteps of legendary small-bore Honda dirt bikes including the Z50A and XR50, and like those machines, it has welcomed legions of new riders to the world of off-road motorcycling.
Over the years, changes to the CRF50F have been relatively minimal, as the original formula continues to work very well. In fact, the model is well established as a staple of Honda’s youth-focused dirt bike range.
Honda Confirms Return of Three CRF Trail Models for 2026
Over the years, Honda’s CRF-F family of trailbike models has welcomed legions of new riders to the world of dirt-bike riding, and that tradition is set to continue given today’s announcement that the CRF50F, CRF110F and CRF125F are returning for the 2026 model year. Fun, reliable, affordable and approachable, these machines open the door to outdoor motorized recreation. Legal in off-road parks across the nation, they’re the perfect entry to a lifetime of outdoor adventure.
“Ask any dirt-bike enthusiast how they got their start—even some of the top racers on start lines at major racing events—and there’s a very good chance they’ll say it was on a Honda trail bike,” said Colin Miller, American Honda Manager of Public Relations. “We’re extremely proud of that legacy, and with the current family of CRF-F models, it’s sure to continue for years to come. We look forward to introducing more and more riders to the sport, and you never know—today’s CRF-F rider could be tomorrow’s Jett Lawrence or Mikayla Nielsen.”
2026 Honda CRF50F Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits
Durable, low-maintenance engine
When it comes to durability and reliability, you can always count on a Honda engine. Say goodbye to frustration and hello to fun.
Adjustable throttle limiter
Set the top speed by turning a screw. That helps keep new riders from going too fast too soon and lets you match the power output to the rider’s skill level.
Keyed ignition
A removable key helps ensure younger riders can’t ride without an adult’s supervision. Got their homework done early? Let’s go riding!
Tough steel frame
New riders can be tough on equipment, especially when starting out. This bike features a durable steel frame that can handle off-road riding.
Automatic clutch
Because there’s no clutch lever to master, new riders don’t have to worry about stalling. That makes it the perfect tool for learning to shift. In addition, the smooth transmission offers three gears.
Tough bodywork
Learning to ride is all about – well, learning. And that can be tough on a bike. So, we made it even more durable. With plastic fenders, tank, and other body parts, it’s designed to shrug off dings and scrapes.
Cool motocross styling
The bike looks like a champ with styling inspired by its pro-motocross big brothers.
ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN
For youngsters who are new to riding, the priority is having fun, while parents typically look for reliability and ease of maintenance. The CRF50F’s little power plant delivers both, along with a quiet exhaust note and a USFS-approved spark arrestor.
The CRF50F is powered by a dependable 49cc single-overhead-cam four-stroke engine that delivers smooth, easy-to-use power, making it ideal for beginners. With a 10.0:1 compression ratio, it offers good performance and easy kick-starting, while the CD ignition and automatic cam-chain tensioner minimize upkeep. The bike’s 11mm piston-valve carburetor ensures excellent fuel mileage and responsive throttle performance across the rpm range. Its smooth-shifting three-speed transmission and automatic clutch make takeoffs and operation simple, while the durable #420 drive chain guarantees reliable performance.
Designed with practicality in mind, the CRF50F features a USFS-approved muffler and spark arrester for quiet, safe operation, along with a closed-crankcase ventilation system to safeguard against engine-oil contamination.
The adjustable throttle limiter lets parents control maximum power, and the keyed ignition switch helps prevent unauthorized use, ensuring safety for young riders. Maintenance is simplified with an easy-access, cleanable foam air filter.
CHASSIS / SUSPENSION
With a kid-friendly layout and low seat height, the CRF50F is unintimidating for young new riders, but serious features mean this motorcycle also delivers performance.
A high-tensile steel frame and swingarm provide a balance of strength and compliance. The inverted telescopic fork boasts 3.8 inches of plush suspension travel, while the single-shock rear-suspension system offers 2.8 inches of well-damped travel. The 10-inch front and rear wheels each have 28 spokes, die-cast-aluminum hubs and drum brakes, while the wide, long-wearing off-road tires provide exceptional traction. The suspension spring and damping rates are optimized for rider comfort and bump absorption.
The CRF Performance line-inspired bodywork adds a sporty, authentic touch and helps kids to play Jett Lawrence make-believe. A narrow, 4.3-inch-wide seat; slim, .7-gallon fuel tank and extra-low, 21.6-inch seat height make reaching the ground easier for a wide range of young riders. The motocross-style handlebar is fitted with a padded protector and high-quality, comfortable grips. Folding, cleated foot pegs ensure secure footing, even in muddy conditions.
