Honda’s CBR1000RR stands as an important chapter in a sport-bike legacy that has shaped the 1,000cc category for more than three decades. The story begins in the ’90s with the groundbreaking CBR900RR, which revolutionized the supersport segment by introducing Honda’s “Total Control” approach—an ideal balance of engine performance, light weight and nimble handling that dramatically sharpened the connection between rider and machine. That guiding principle carried forward through successive CBR generations, each one refined through Honda’s relentless pursuit of performance. When the CBR1000RR arrived in the U.S. market in 2004, it set a new standard for road-going supersport motorcycles. American Honda today announced the 2026 CB1000F, a retro-styled four-cylinder motorcycle that channels the spirit of the iconic 1979 CB750F made famous by Freddie Spencer in AMA Superbike competition. With clean lines, evocative graphics and a broad performance envelope built on the CB1000 Hornet SP platform, the CB1000F delivers the timeless appeal of an air-cooled-era standard with the capability and refinement riders expect from a modern Honda.

DESIGN & STYLING
Thanks to a narrow, minimalist, aggressive design that has long marked the CBR lineup, the CBR1000RR has a striking appearance when parked at the local overlook or in the paddock.
The 4.3-gallon titanium fuel tank is manufactured using an ultra-deep drawing process, achieving low weight and high mass centralization. The headlights, taillights and turn signals are lightweight, efficient LEDs, and the full-color, thin-film-transistor (TFT), liquid-crystal meter—designed to not be intrusive for the rider—features Street, Circuit and Mechanic displays.
ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN
Renowned for its user-friendly performance, the CBR1000RR’s 1,000cc inline four-cylinder engine features modern technologies like Diamond-Like Carbon coating (DLC) and magnesium covers. Honed through years of racing, where control is key, the powerplant combines high engine speeds with a tractable power curve that suits city streets and canyons just as well as track-day riding. Magnesium construction of the oil pan and ignition cover contribute to a low engine weight.
Bore and stroke are 76.0mm and 55.1mm, respectively, and the compression ratio is 13.0:1. The pistons feature varying thicknesses at various points for an optimized balance of high strength and low weight; the piston rings have DLC coating for a superb sealing property. Valve lift and timing are optimized for high engine speeds, with a peak of 13,000 rpm.
The air-intake duct and airbox design minimize air resistance. High fuel-discharge pressure promotes fuel atomization and maximizes combustion efficiency, while throttle response is maximized by intake funnels with a slash-cut design.
The slipper clutch has a low spring load. Die-cast aluminum assist cams (transmitting & receiving) contribute to a low weight, while optimized clearance between the cams make for a good clutch-lever feel. The radiator has a high-density core that achieves high heat dissipation while allowing a narrow vehicle width and low weight.
Adapted from the RC213V-S, the throttle-by-wire system features a built-in accelerator position sensor for optimal response and rideability. Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) measures front and rear wheel speeds and body roll angle to maximize performance in a wide range of conditions. Wheelie control is also standard.
The rider can choose how strongly the engine brake is applied when the throttle is closed during deceleration; three levels of adjustability are available, depending on rider preference. A five-level Power Selector enables on-the-fly adjustment of riding modes and HSTC levels, adapting the machine to changing conditions.
CHASSIS & SUSPENSION
Designed around Honda’s “Total Control” philosophy, the CBR1000RR’s chassis focuses on light weight and maneuverability, the frame and swingarm striking an ideal balance between weight and rigidity. When combined with Honda’s mass-centralization efforts, the result is a lightweight motorcycle that makes longer days in the saddle less strenuous.
The finely tuned frame has varying wall thicknesses that contribute to light weight and appropriate flex characteristics. The die-cast aluminum subframe is light as well.
A 43mm Showa large-volume BPF inverted fork handles front suspension duties, while the Unit Pro-Link® rear system features a Balance Free Rear Cushion (BFRC) shock absorber. Front and rear travel figures are 4.7 inches and 5.4 inches, respectively, while rake and trail are 23.4º and 3.8 inches (96mm).
The wheels have a five-Y-spoke design for aerodynamic stability, while material thickness is minimized for low weight. Highly rigid Tokico four-piston opposed radial-mounted front-brake calipers work high-friction brake pads, providing strong stopping power. Available ABS features rear-lift control, for smooth, effective braking on corner entry; braking force is controlled according to lean angle, and relatively aggressive trail braking is possible.
The Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) detects vehicle speed and adjusts damping proportionally, helping maintain low-speed maneuverability while providing predictable high-speed handling.
