2027 KTM 450 SMR: TREMBLE THE APEXES

The technically advanced but temptingly raw KTM 450 SMR is still the reference for competition orientated Supermoto. Performance, pace, purpose: the 2027 version retains all the class-leading characteristics but with a sharp new look and extended coverage through the new Premium Manufacturer’s Warranty.
Power and agility combine to ruthless effect with the 2027 KTM 450 SMR. The SOHC 450 cc engine is a hyper-responsive, compact, light and fiery heart of the bike that growls for the chromometer, and is augmented by multiple maps, traction and launch control and a SUTER slipper clutch. Grip is gold. The horsepower package (adhering to the 109db FIM noise limit) is held by reinforced mounts and is molded by the minimalistic but dependable chassis that keeps the whole bike planted and ensures line choice is a breeze. Rear end slides become second nature.

Race design-thinking litters the KTM 450 SMR. From the ergonomics, zoned centralization, sculpted plastics (acute rider positioning) and emphasis on serviceability; like the accessible airbox, threaded radiator closure and other components. WP XACT suspension (48mm closed cartridge forks) and streamlined rear shock are premium additions and are fully adjustable meaning the KTM 450 SMR can adapt to a billiard-table smooth strip of asphalt or also handle dirt and Supermoto jumps. Brembo brakes guarantee sharp stopping prowess.

The KTM 450 SMR is a sumptuous toy for the track but also a foil for victory, having taken the 2025 FIM Supermoto World Championship title together with Lukas Höllbacher in the S1GP. The technical specifications will ask questions of the rider and dare the racer to grab those extra tenths of second or dive for that extra position. With the predominant orange livery, hardened with black handguards, wheel rims, silencer and seat, the visual effect is one of winning menace. As ever, the KTM PowerParts catalogue has a wide range of accessories and options for more personalization or more competitiveness at the highest levels of the sport.

KTM motorcycles come with a standard manufacturer’s warranty, providing confidence for any rider to push the limits with the KTM 450 SMR, but the package has been boosted by the application of the new Premium Manufacturer’s Warranty, offering extra peace of mind at no extra cost

2027 KTM 450 SMR Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

CLICK INTO ACTION

Easy Suspension Adjustment

As always, the suspension boasts an easy tool-free setup at both ends, ensuring you chase down the podium in total control. On the rear, a hand-adjustable dual compression control allows riders to adjust high- and low-speed settings in a matter of seconds. The forks on the front end are also easily adjusted thanks to hand-adjustable clickers on the bottom of the fork shoe and top cap.

BREATHE EASY

Airbox

Designed to provide maximum airflow, the new air filter box is designed with precisely positioned inlet ducts aimed at preventing air deformation and maintaining filter protection. The Twin Air filter and air filter support design feature a simple fail-proof mounting system for safe and accurate filter installation, ensuring the air filter is easily accessed, without tools, by removing the left side panel, for easy track-side maintenance.

LESS FOCUS ON THE TOOL, MORE FOCUS ON THE TRACK

Serviceability

The KTM 450 SMR is engineered and designed to provide riders with easy-to-access service parts, as well as suspension adjustability. This allows for faster track-side and off-season maintenance, as well as making supermoto more accessible for novice riders without pit crews.

UNMATCHED PERFORMANCE

More Usable Power

The KTM 450 SMR features one of the most exhilarating 4-stroke engines in the paddock, with its SOHC powerplant exemplifying cutting-edge engineering. The silencer offers exceptional response in combination with the mapping switch and provides a slightly quieter exhaust note. For those looking for more, a quick visit to the KTM PowerParts catalog will take things to the next level.

DROP THE CLUTCH

Launch Control & Quickshifter

Launch control, ENGAGED! Designed for total domination, the KTM 450 SMR comes fitted standard with launch control and Quickshifter functionality. Launch control is easily engaged by pressing the traction control and Quickshifter buttons simultaneously and works by limiting the amount of power to the rear wheel, improving traction, and preventing loss of control under hard acceleration. Meanwhile, the Quickshifter function means you can bang through from 2nd to 5th gear with your focus solely on getting to the corner first.

TOTAL TRACTION

Selectable Maps + TC

The map select switch on the KTM 450 SMR features a simpler design, allowing for easier functionality in switching between 2 engine maps. Map 1 provides a more linear power curve, while Map 2 punches all-out with aggressive throttle and explosive power. Luckily, Traction Control is easily toggled to an on or off position from the same switch, ensuring maximum traction and a distinct advantage in slippery conditions.

HIT THE APEX

Absolute Control

The KTM 450 SMR frame is built for riders who demand sharp handling and full control. Its refined flex characteristics let you carve berms, launch jumps, and tackle technical terrain with confidence. A streamlined rear shock mount boosts stability and traction, while optimized engine mounts and wall thickness ensure a balanced, responsive feel from front to back.

FLUID RIDER MOTION

Ergonomics

Tank shrouds using bi-compound plastics channel air towards the radiators more efficiently, while a concise fuel tank roll, makes for a tighter, more secure fitment, reducing the chance of frame scrubbing and dramatically improving durability. All this works alongside the specially-developed rider triangle, to provide unmatched knee contact and gripping surfaces – especially when standing on the pegs.

UNMATCHED PERFORMANCE

Performance

The KTM 450 SMR engine is tilted 2° backward, resulting in a 3mm lower front sprocket position. All of this means greatly improved mass centralization and reduced overall weight, benefiting handling and anti-squat behavior.

SLIP AND LET RIP

Slipper Clutch

The KTM 450 SMR features a SUTER slipper clutch which prevents rear wheel instability and hopping when aggressively down gearing for the apex. The result is maximum control, and the ability to perform the perfect Supermoto-style drifts into corners. What’s more, a Brembo hydraulic system guarantees perfect clutch modulation – when you’re not using the Quickshifter, that is.

UNFLAPPABLE FRONT END

WP XACT Fork

Fast and consistent damping characteristics are guaranteed thanks to the mid-valve piston concept which optimizes the oil flow within the cartridge. The WP XACT Close Cartridge fork comes with 48mm of diameter while the total length is 925mm. As always, the fork is fully adjustable in rebound and compression. Hand-adjustable clickers on the bottom of the fork shoe and fork top cap allow riders to change settings on the fly without the need of tools.

TRACK SMOOTHER

WP XACT SHOCK

Keeping things in check at the rear is the job of the WP XACT rear shock. Frame and shock geometry are optimized ground clearance at the linkage, making it less susceptible to bottoming out. Small diameter linkage bolts save weight, while new linkage seals refine rear shock response and advanced damping characteristics.

RACING ON RAILS

Wheels and Tires

Here’s looking at you, slick. Black, high-strength ALPINA rims with CNC machined hubs, and lightweight spokes, are wrapped in Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto tires as standard. Thanks to the tire’s ultra-fine silica compound, they warm-up fast and deliver exceptional grip on all surfaces.

STOPPING POWER

Brakes

Think of it as half-superbike brakes. Exceptional stopping power is guaranteed by high-performance Brembo components, with a 4-piston radial mounted caliper and a radial master cylinder working together to grab a massive 310 mm disc at the front. A single-piston caliper and a 220mm disc provide the stopping power at the rear.

WELCOME TO NEXT LEVEL MOTO

Connectivity Unit Offroad

Available as a PowerPart on the KTM 450 SMR, the Connectivity Unit Offroad – or CUO for short – offers a wide range of functionalities and adjustability options via the KTMconnect app. The CUO gives you a new insight into your riding, allows you to alter your engine behavior, and even provides you with optimized suspension settings based on individual preferences and riding conditions. Welcome to the next level moto.

NOTHING TO HOLD YOU BACK

Footpegs

The KTM 450 SMR features compact footpegs designed for precision and performance. Their reduced surface area minimizes the chance of hooking on track curbs, while enhancing control during deep lean angles, giving riders the confidence to push harder through every corner.

PRECISE, LAP AFTER LAP

Consistency

The KTM 450 SMR is equipped with a robust chain guide and guard designed for maximum durability and consistent performance. Their streamlined design reduces the risk of hooking on external objects, ensuring smooth power delivery and reliability – lap after lap.

UNOBTRUSIVE IMPACT

Energy absorption

Besides the expertly crafted, hydro-formed, laser-cut, and robot-welded frame being engineered to provide exceptional rider feedback and straight-line stability, it consists of specifically calculated parameters of longitudinal and torsional flex. This means the frame acts as a “shock absorber” of sorts, making for a less harsh ride, resulting in less rider fatigue over many hard laps.

Mass Centralization

With a strong focus on mass centralization, the SMR engine is designed to concentrate rotating mass at the core, working in perfect harmony with the chassis. The result is lighter, more agile handling that helps riders produce their best lap times.
