– 2001 Suzuki SV 650S
THE 2001 SPORT LINE: KATANA, TL1000S, SV650, SV650S
Suzuki Katanas have long been known as motorcycles with the right combination of performance and value. A Katana combines sport-bike responsiveness with an ample amount of comfort that a motorcyclist needs for a weekday commute, or a weekend pleasure ride. Look at a Katana and you’ll see handlebars and footpegs that place the rider in a comfortable upright position, and a contoured seat that helps the rider stay focused on the ride. If you prefer the same level of comfort and versatility, but with V-twin performance there’s the compact SV650, new SV650S and sport-oriented TL1000S. Both of these streetwise, 90° V-twin powered machines offer plenty of value with unmistakable V-twin sound and feel.
NEW MODEL: SV650S – Engineered for Fun
When the SV650 rolled on the scene in 1999, riders of every experience level marvelled at how such a simple little bike could be so much fun to ride. With its V-twin power, lightweight chassis and comfortable seating position, it could turn even the most mundane commute into a great experience. Introduced at the same time, but not in the U.S., is the SV650S which has the same great performance, but in a sportier, half-faired package. Now, for 2001 the SV650S comes to the American market.
The SV650S is equipped with the same 90o V-twin engine and lightweight aluminum frame as the SV650, but the with these additional features:
– Half-fairing with dual headlamps and enclosed instrument panel
– Fairing-mounted mirrors and lower clip-on style handlebars
– Higher-mounted rearset footpegs
– Taller final drive ratio
– The SV650S is powered by a liquid-cooled, 90o V-twin engine with double-overhead-cams , 4-valves per cylinder, 39mm downdraft-style carburetors, 6-speed transmission and a 2-into-one exhaust system. The chassis consists of a lightweight truss-style aluminum frame and square-tube aluminum swingarm, plus 41mm forks, adjustable rear shock absorber, dual disc brakes and wide radial tires mounted on cast aluminum rims.
The SV650S – all the fun, lightweight performance the SV650 is known for, but with a sportier, open-road style and seating position.
