– 2003 Triumph Sprint RS
Sprint RS
Triumph’s ability to build machines that offer many more dimensions as all-rounders than rival manufacturers seem able to produce is what sets them apart from the rest. The Sprint RS is the benchmark when it comes to coping with anything a rider can throw at it.
Comfortable enough for long days in the saddle and yet possessed of a sporting ability that is more of a surprise to riders of other machines than it ever is to a Sprint RS rider, this is a motorcycle whose reserved styling belies a sports machine of considerable ability.
The twin-spar aluminium frame, lightweight swing arm and powerful brakes can cope with any amount of hard riding and the adjustable suspension allows the rider to fine-tune the chassis depending on what type of riding is planned.
Fitted with the 120bhp second generation three-cylinder engine, this half-faired sportster offers plenty of weather protection and yet also shows off the sculpted form of the black-finished engine. The fuel-injection mapping is also tailored to maximise mid-range torque which gives the machine an uncanny ability to cover distance without stretching either itself or the rider.
As sports bikes become increasingly narrowly-focused and more demanding to ride, the Sprint RS remains one of the few machines with the ability to tackle anything from a track day to a two-up trip to Europe.
