2004 Harley-Davidson XL 1200R Sportster 1200 Roadster

XL 1200R Sportster® 1200 Roadster Model Overview
The 1200R Sportster® Roadster embodies the radical transformation of the Sportster family for 2004 – A completely new motorcycle and redesigned powertrain that exude, stronger than ever, the very essence of the Sportster family when it was launched in 1957 and throughout it’s almost 50 year history. The look, sound, and feel of the 1200R herald the day when Sportster began its middleweight custom domination. And the powerful 1200 Evolution engine, dual front disc brakes, tachometer and increased redline prove that this Roadster is as fun to ride as it is to look at.

Key XL Sportster® 1200 Roadster Characteristics

Rubber-mounted 1200cc Evolution® Engine
High compression, high flow cylinder heads
High performance cams
Silver powder-coated engine with black powder-coated cylinders and cylinder heads and silver powder-coated covers
Triple-disc brakes
Tachometer
Wide polished handlebar
Chrome headlight visor
The fuel tank on the 1200R has been completely redesigned in 2004, while still maintaining the classic “Sportster” look.
The 1200R also receives brand new graphics in 2004.
The combustion chambers and ports are a high flow design, resulting in an increase in potential air flow both into and out of the cylinder.
Redline on the 1200R is 6000RPM, an increase of over 15%*.
The 1200 powertrain uses high performance cams, which helps to increase torque over 16%*.
A compression ratio of 9.7:1 and the new 6000 rpm on the 1200 Evolution engine round out the performance features of the 1200 powertrain. With these changes, 91 octane or higher fuel is required for the 1200 Evolution engines.
* Compared to 2003 base domestic 1200 engine
