With Pirelli, Gonzalez and Uriarte win record-breaking Moto2™ and Moto3™ races at Mugello

The Moto2™ race was 22 seconds faster than in 2025, with an average lap-time improvement of 1.2 seconds, while the Moto3™ race finished 10 seconds faster, improving race speed by 0.6 seconds per lap

· Gonzalez wins and leads the Championship. Pole-sitter Manuel Gonzalez (Kalex) claimed his second win of the season by taking victory in today’s Moto2™ race at the Mugello circuit during the Italian Grand Prix, and now leads the Championship with 129.5 points. Behind the Spaniard were Celestino Vietti (Boscoscuro), who started from sixteenth on the grid, and Daniel Holgado (Kalex), in third. As for the tyres, all riders used the soft SC1 option on the front, paired in the vast majority of cases with the updated 2026 version of the range’s supersoft SCX rear.

· Uriarte’s first win. After poleman Almansa was forced to withdraw due to tonsillitis, Malaysia’s Hakim Danish (KTM) started from the first grid slot in the Moto3™ race. Victory, however, went to Brian Uriarte of the Red Bull KTM Ajo team, his first Moto3™ win after claiming both the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the FIM JuniorGP World Championship last year. The Spaniard finished ahead of team-mate Álvaro Carpe and Danish himself, for an all-KTM podium. All riders used soft SC1 compound tyres at the rear, while at the front half opted for soft SC1 and the other half for medium SC2, the latter also used by the first two finishers.

· Fastest races ever. This year’s Moto2™ race, completed in 35’12.315, was more than 22 seconds quicker than last year’s, run over the same 19-lap distance and in almost identical air and track temperatures, with an improvement in average race lap time of nearly 1.2 seconds. In addition, on the second lap, Iván Ortolá (Kalex) set the new race lap record with a 1’49.497, improving by almost 1 second on the 1’50.476 set in 2024 by Aron Canet. The Moto3™ race, run over 17 laps in 33’07.801, was almost 10 seconds faster than last year’s race, which was completed in 33’17.697 in similar air and track temperatures, for an average lap-time improvement of just under 0.6 seconds.

The fastest races ever at Mugello for these classes

“After the new outright lap record set yesterday in Moto2™, the races also confirmed the excellent performance of the tyres, contributing to highly significant results. Both the Moto2™ and Moto3™ races were the fastest ever at Mugello for their respective classes in terms of race speed.
In Moto2™, there was an overall improvement of 22 seconds compared with 2025, corresponding to a reduction in average lap time of 1.2 seconds, with Ortolá also setting the new fastest race lap and improving the previous benchmark by 1 second. The new supersoft rear compound in the range, updated for this season, made a significant contribution to this result.
In Moto3™, too, despite using the same solutions as last season, significant progress was recorded: the race was 10 seconds faster than last year, with race speed improved by 0.6 seconds per lap.
It is important to note that these results were achieved in almost identical conditions to those of 2025, both in terms of air and track temperatures and, of course, number of race laps.
Finally, a mention for the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup, which once again delivered very closely fought races, and congratulations to Ogiwara for the double achieved over the weekend.”
