| A LIVERY INSPIRED BY THE RACING SUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE WORE IN 1981, WITH THE PIAGGIO VESPA LOGO ON THE SLEEVE |
| On the occasion of the GP of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera, Aprilia Racing celebrates Vespa’s 80 years with a special livery – the “Perla Bianca”, which takes the history of the Vespa brand and automotive racing into MotoGP, inspired by Gilles Villeneuve.
The livery takes its inspiration from the white racing suit worn by Gilles Villeneuve in 1981 for the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, a race which the Canadian won. In fact, right there on the sleeve of that racing suit was the Piaggio Vespa logo – a bond that Aprilia Racing now takes and re-interprets on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Piaggio Group’s most iconic vehicle. The “Perla Bianca” thereby creates a bridge between the history of Vespa and the history of automotive racing, two worlds with a passion for engines in common. It is a tribute to the Vespa’s 80th anniversary and to Gilles Villeneuve, whose talent left an indelible mark on the world of sports and continues to inspire generations of enthusiasts even today. For the occasion, the Aprilia Racing team will also wear a dedicated white uniform, coordinated with the new livery of the RS-GP26. The original racing suit worn by Gilles Villeneuve in 1981 will also be displayed outside the Aprilia Racing box for the entire Grand Prix weekend.
