• Calvin Vlaanderen 7th in the Turkish Grand Prix Qualifying Race
Located approximately 250 km southwest of the capital Ankara, the Afyon circuit hosts an FIM Motocross World Championship race this weekend for the ninth time in its short history. The 1,725-meter hard-pack track, nestled among the hot springs of the Afyonkarahisar plateau, 1000 meters above sea level, features a modern, fast-paced layout.
Qualifying 12th in practice, Calvin Vlaanderen managed to get off to a decent start in the qualifying race aboard his Desmo450 MX, climbing into the top 10 on his first lap, quickly taking eighth place. Sixth with one lap to go, the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team rider finished seventh in the seventeenth qualifying race of the year. Never truly comfortable on the arid Turkish soil, Andrea Bonacorsi couldn’t manage higher than fifteenth at the end of the timed practice session. After starting the qualifying race in thirteenth place, the Italian was unable to find a good pace and took the checkered flag in fourteenth.
