Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing Team Look to Keep Supercross Success Rolling into the Outdoor Season

With a combined total of four wins and 21 podiums in Supercross’ 250SX Championships, the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing Team look to keep that momentum rolling into the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship’s season opener at the Hangtown Motocross Classic, in Rancho Cordova, California, on May 18.

Two weeks after his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX West Championship, Dylan Ferrandis is looking to start his 250MX season strong. The Frenchman, like most champions, is a perfectionist. He has yet to find that “perfect” outdoor setup in the short amount of time between Supercross and the outoor season, but Ferrandis is ready to get to work this weekend for top honors.

Ferrandis’ 250SX West teammate Colt Nichols is also ready to get back to racing. After coming back from injuries last year, Nichols ended the season on a high note with a podium finish at the season finale. The Oklahoma native would very much like to build on that and kick off the Pro Motocross season the way he did in supercross, scoring his first win.

Fresh off of a career-best supercross season with second in the 250SX East standings, Justin Cooper wants to keep his forward momentum rolling into the Summer aboard the Yamaha YZ-250F. Cooper turned a lot of heads last season finishing third in 250MX standings. In 2019, the New Yorker is looking for better.

Making his pro debut this weekend is the youngest member of the team – Ty Masterpool. One of the sport’s top up-and-coming riders, Masterpool heads into pro ranks with two titles last season at Loretta Lynns and looks to have a good showing this season.

The fifth member of the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team, Mitchell Oldenburg, is sidelined from the season opener as he continues to recover from a burn sustained in a crash at the Supercross season finale in Las Vegas. His return is anticipated for round four at High Point.

The much-anticipated Hangtown Motocross Classic season opener gets underway with practice starting at 8:00 a.m. PT.

“It was straight from the Supercross win to getting ready for outdoors. We have been struggling to get a good set up on the bike on the short amount of time we had between last supercross race and first outdoor, but I will give everything at Hangtown and see how it goes.”

Colt Nichols

“I’m ready to get the summer started at Hangtown this weekend! All of the preparation is done, so I’m just ready to go racing and see where we are.”

Justin Cooper

Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing

“It will be a nice change of pace to transition from supercross to the outdoors. We’ve done a lot of prep heading into this season and excited to put it to use! I can’t wait for Hangtown this weekend! I’m looking to start the season off strong!”

Ty Masterpool

Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing

“I’m really looking forward to making my pro debut with the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team this weekend. There are a lot of unknowns going into that first race, but I’m looking at the big picture and am just going to do my best, trust in God and grow from there.”
