From the Manufacturer:

WHO MANUFACTURERS THE BRP CAN-AM SPYDER?

BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), the same company that makes Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Sea-Doo watercraft, Can-Am all-terrain and side-by-side vehicles, Evinrude and Rotax marine propulsion systems as well as Rotax engines. BRP supports its line of products with a dedicated parts, accessories and clothing business. The Company employs approximately 7,900 people worldwide.

WHERE IS THE CAN-AM SPYDER MANUFACTURED?

Can-Am Spyder vehicles are built in BRP’s main production facilities in Valcourt, Québec, Canada.

HOW LONG HAS THE CAN-AM SPYDER BEEN IN EXISTENCE?

The Can-Am Spyder was introduced in February 2007.

IS THE CAN-AM SPYDER A MOTORCYCLE?

The Can-Am Spyder is classified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a three-wheeled motorcycle. BRP feels the Can-Am Spyder gives owners the performance of a motorcycle and much of the peace of mind of a convertible sports car.

WHY DOES THE CAN-AM SPYDER HAVE THREE WHEELS AND NOT TWO?

While initially concepting the Can-Am Spyder, BRP briefly looked at going the traditional route, keeping in line with other powersport companies. However, BRP wanted to stay strong to its core value, opting for designing an innovative, paradigm-shifting vehicle that makes a true statement.

WHY DID BRP SPELL “SPYDER” WITH A Y?

Spyder is spelled with a Y because of its Y-frame design. It has two wheels in the front and one wheel in the back.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT COMPARES TO THE CAN-AM SPYDER?

The Can-Am Spyder can’t be compared to anything on the road because of its unique Y-frame design and 7 automotive technologies. It provides an open-road riding experience like nobody has seen or experienced before.

DO YOU NEED A MOTORCYCLE LICENCE TO RIDE A CAN-AM SPYDER?

Most jurisdictions in Europe with the exception of Greece require a valid car licence to operate the Can-Am Spyder. In other countries and especially in North America, some jurisdictions require a valid motorcycle or three-wheel licence. We invite you to contact your local authorities to obtain the licence and vehicle registration information that applies to you or to look it up in the Licensing Requirements section of this website.

DO PEOPLE NEED TO WEAR A HELMET TO RIDE A CAN-AM SPYDER?

Helmet requirements are the same as standard motorcycles and vary by location. While helmet laws aren’t universal, BRP recommends everybody wear a helmet while riding a Can-Am Spyder.

DOES THE CAN-AM SPYDER MEET EPA / CARB / EU / ETC. REGULATIONS?

Yes. The Can-Am Spyder meets or exceeds all environmental regulations, including the stricter CARB standards.

CAN YOU RIDE A CAN-AM SPYDER IN THE HOV LANE?

Yes. The Can-Am Spyder is classified as a three-wheeled motorcycle and follows state motorcycle laws.

DOES THE CAN-AM SPYDER OFFER A STABLE RIDE?

The Can-Am Spyder is stable. It has a unique Y-architecture with three-wheels (2+1) that provides stability at rest and in motion. The Can-Am Spyder also comes standard with a Vehicle Stability System (VSS™) that includes ABS, Traction Control, and Stability Control.

DOES BRP OFFER A WARRANTY FOR THE CAN-AM SPYDER?

The Can-Am Spyder comes standard with a two-year warranty with unlimited mileage.

HOW DOES THE CAN-AM SPYDER TURN?

The Can-Am Spyder turns much like a Can-Am ATV, Sea-Doo personal watercraft or Ski-Doo snowmobile. You have to steer the vehicle through the turn. There is no counter steering or leaning through the turn, like you would with a motorcycle. The Can-Am Spyder also features DPS (Dynamic Power Steering) to provide steering assistance according to speed and user input.

WHAT ARE THE TRANSMISSION OPTIONS FOR THE CAN-AM SPYDER?

The Can-Am Spyder has two different transmission options. There is the Sequential Manual, which has a traditional 5-speed manual transmission with reverse. The other option is the Sequential Electronic, which is a semi-automatic transmission with reverse. Spyder RT models feature a 6-speed transmission and all other Spyder feature a 5-speed transmission.

WHERE IS THE CAN-AM SPYDER SOLD?

The Can-Am Spyder is sold at BRP dealerships across the globe.
