2020 Ducati Multistrada 1260S Grand Tour:
The new Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is the Multistrada that better expresses the concept of premium sport touring bike, for those who love to travel without sacrificing anything.
The design, performance and comfort of the Multistrada 1260 S blend with a rich equipment and an exclusive livery.
The Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour comes with side panniers, center stand, heated grips, additional LED lights, hands-free tank filler plug and tyre pressure monitoring system as standard equipment.
The 2020 Multistrada family has a new member: the Grand Tour, a special version of the 1260 S, specifically designed for those who want to eat up the miles in maximum comfort. Making the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour instantly recognisable is a dedicated colour scheme that combines stylish matt Sandstone Grey with assertive Ducati Red wheel and fairing trims. No less distinctive are the red painted frame – which contrasts perfectly with the grey superstructure – and large tone on tone 1260 logo with red S emblazoned on the side of the bike.
As the name suggests, the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour was designed for serious travelling and features centre stand, panniers and a dedicated seat with Grand Tour logo as standard. To keep even the most demanding adventurers comfortable the Grand Tour comes with heated grips, additional LED lights, a hands free petrol cap and tyre pressure monitoring sensor that constantly feeds data to the dashboard display.
The 1262 cm³ Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine and the 4 Riding Modes make the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour both the perfect everyday runabout and a trusty tourer, even on long-distance adventures with passenger and luggage. In fact, with 85% of the twin cylinder Testastretta DVT torque already available at 3,500 rpm, riders have all the oomph they need. The Ride by Wire throttle system keeps the impressive maximum power of 158 hp (at 9,500 rpm) and maximum torque of 13.2 kgm (at 7,500 rpm) under smooth control at all times while the four-bikes in-one Riding Modes ensure the Multistrada adapts perfectly to road and rider alike. When launched back in 2010, the Multistrada stunned the motorcycle world with its multibike concept: four bikes in one, from sports bike to long-distance tourer, from everyday bike to enduro.
A combination of flawless chassis geometry and 17″ alloy wheels lets the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour glide smoothly through the bends while ensuring maximum stability even with a full passenger+luggage load. What’s more, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up & Down means you can go clutchless and carefree as you weave through the mountains, simply enjoying the ride thanks to faultless up-changing and down- changing.
When it comes to the as-standard electronics package, the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour in unrivalled in its category. An IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) platform feeds the control unit vital information on bike attitude and speed to ensure proper operation of ABS Cornering, the Cornering Lights (DCL) incorporated in the full-LED headlight assembly and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC). Riders can set both DWC and DTC to one of 8 different levels, or simply deactivate them. Also as-standard on the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) and the semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evolution system, also featured on the Multistrada 1260 S.
As on all Multistrada 1260 models, the Grand Tour features cruise control for carefree motorway journeying; all the rider has to do is set the desired cruising speed via the left-hand switchgear buttons. Also as standard is the Bluetooth module that, via the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), lets riders connect the bike to a smartphone and control key multimedia functions (incoming calls, music) via the switchgears and display the relative info on a 5″ high resolution colour TFT dashboard that takes interface user-friendliness to the next level.
The Multistrada 1260 Grand Tour has a Hands Free petrol cap that can be opened without using a key. It also boasts long maintenance intervals: the oil only needs changing every 15,000 km while a Desmo Service is required only every 30,000 km. The result? Carefree riding, even on the longest adventures.

2020 Ducati Multistrada 1260S Grand Tour Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits
Design
The Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour can be easily identified thanks to the harmonious and dynamic design characteristic of the Multistrada family ad to the exclusive Grand Tour livery.
The smart matte Sandstone Grey colour and the tone-on-tone 1260 logo on the side of the bike, combined with the Ducati red frame and details on wheel rims and fairing, are a refined and yet sporty colour match.
Engine
Thanks to the 1262 cc Ducati Testastretta DVT engine and the 4 Riding Modes, the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is suitable both for daily use and for travelling, as it can also be a faithful companion for long trips when two-ups and with luggage.
This is possible because 85% of the torque delivered by the Testastretta DVT twin-cylinder engine is already available at 3,500 rpm. The maximum power of 158 hp is available at 9,500 rpm and maximum torque of 13.2 kgm at 7,500 rpm are always easy to manage thanks to the Ride by Wire system ensuring smooth throttle control and to the Riding Modes that turn the Multistrada into four different bikes, depending on the rider’s requirements: more sporty, more tourer for long trips, more for commuting or for enduro.
Moreover, thanks to the Ducati Quick Shift up & down (DQS) you can stop thinking about the clutch in mountain roads full of bends, thus simply enjoying your ride as gear shifts will be smooth and accurate no matter if you’re shifting up or down.
The Testastretta engine also combines top-class performance with long maintenance intervals: oil changes are scheduled every 15,000 km, while the “Desmo Service” is required every 30,000 km; these distances allow you to enjoy all your travels, even the longest rides, without any worries.
DVT system
Developed and fine-tuned by Ducati engineers, the DVT system optimises performance and fluidity of delivery at all end speed levels. The Ducati Testrastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine, which varies both the timing of the camshaft that controls the intake valves, and the camshaft that controls the exhaust valves independently, it optimizes performance at high speeds to achieve maximum power, while improving smooth delivery and increasing torque at low and medium range speeds. This means you have an engine that changes its characteristics by continuously varying the rpm without the rider even noticing it, remaining within the Euro 4 approval requirements whilst paying great attention to fuel consumption.
Displacement and torque
Thanks to its new displacement of 1262 cm3, the new Multistrada 1260 engine sets outstanding new riding and performance standards. In developing this new engine, derived from the unit fitted on the new Multistrada 1200, Ducati engineers focused on guaranteeing the maximum and best possible torque delivery at low and mid range engine speeds. 85% of the torque is in fact already available below 3,500 rpm with an 18% increase in the curve at 5,500 rpm compared to the previous model. All this makes the new Multistrada 1260 the motorcycle with the highest torque value in its category, an exceptional 4,000 rpm, i.e. the average rpm rate used when riding. To reach this new displacement level, the piston stroke was increased from 67.9 to 71.5 mm (the bore remains 106 mm). This was achieved thanks to the use of new connecting rods, a new crankshaft and new cylinders. The DVT system was then recalibrated to maximise mid to low range engine torque delivery, leading to a maximum power of 158 hp at 9,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.2 kgm at 7,500 rpm.
Electronics
The Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour, in terms of electronic equipment, is a benchmark. The IMU inertial platform (Inertial Measurement Unit) provides the ECU precious information concerning bike position and speed in space thereby allowing operation of the ABS Cornering, of the Cornering Lights (DCL) – present in the full LED headlight fitted to the bike – and of the Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC).
Both DWC and DTC can be customised by the rider through 8 levels or can be disabled. Standard equipment for the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour also includes the Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) and the semi-active suspension control Ducati Skyhook Suspension Evo (DSS).
For carefree travel on the motorway, as on all Multistrada 1260 models, the Grand Tour also features the cruise control that allows the rider to set a cruising speed using the buttons integrated in the switchgear located on the left side of the handlebar. This model also features a standard Bluetooth module that, through the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), allows the rider to connect the motorcycle with his/her smartphone and manage its main functions (answering calls and listening to music) by means of the buttons on the handlebar and displaying the relevant information on the high-resolution 5” colour TFT dashboard, which marks new standards for user-friendliness and easy readout view.
The Multistrada 1260 Grand Tour is equipped with a Hands Free system that not only allows starting the bike, but also opening the tank filler plug without using the key.
Chassis and ergonomics
Chassis dimensions of the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour, together with the 17″ alloy wheels, ensure an efficient and responsive ride in bends and also utmost stability, even when fully loaded and at high speed, with panniers and passenger.
The ergonomics of the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour was designed to ensure a natural, comfortable and relaxing riding position in case of long trips, both for the rider and for the passenger, and at the same time a riding stance that could be dynamic, active and performing when bends spark your desire for fun.
Suspensions
The S version suspensions of the Multistrada 1260 are of the semi-active type and are controlled by the Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evolution system.
The Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour features a Kayaba 48-mm upside-down front fork with dedicated cast leg, with fully adjustable features (spring preload, hydraulic brake in compression and rebound, all on both forks). At the rear a Sachs shock absorber connects the swingarm to the left cast subframe: once again the features are adjustable – remote spring preload with hydraulic torque and hydraulic brakes in compression and rebound. The spring is progressive, resulting in increased riding comfort even when carrying the maximum load allowed.
The S versions of the Multistrada 1260 Grand Tour are fitted with a 48-mm Sachs fork with the sleeves in the characteristic grey ceramic that identifies semi-active suspensions and forged legs. The rear shock absorber is manufactured by Sachs. Both the suspensions are of the semi-active type and are controlled by the Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evolution system. In addition to adjusting the compression and rebound damping adjustment and rear spring preloading, automatic and integrated in the Riding Mode or customisable via the on-board computer, the semi-active system continuously monitors these elements to ensure the perfect balance of the vehicle.
Both suspensions allow a 170 mm front and rear wheel travel, a value that guarantees absolute comfort when travelling even at higher load values, and extra safety when riding on soft off-road tracks.
The sensation of pure comfort is further enhanced in the S versions by the DSS Evolution function that allows the rider to quickly and easily adjust the track alignment of the bike according to the various riding configurations and the type of trip: single rider, rider with panniers, rider with pillion rider and rider with pillion rider and panniers.
Tyres and rims
The Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is equipped with die-cast light alloy wheel rims featuring 5 Y-shaped spokes. The sizes are 3.50” x 17’’ on the front and 6.00” x 17” on the rear, with Pirelli SCORPION™ Trail II tyres in sizes 120/70 ZR17 and 190/55 ZR17.
