That trend extends to the dual-sport category, with the approachable, value-focused XR150L, boasting potential for both short-run transportation and relaxed weekend off-road outings. Whether serving as an affordable additional motorcycle for veteran riders, campground passage for outdoor-enthusiast families, or around-town transportation for those still relatively new to the world of powersports, the XR150L does it all—while touting both the reputation for reliability established by the XR650L, and the industry’s lowest price for a full-size dual-sport motorcycle.

Honda Announces Two Beginner-Friendly 2023 Dual-Sport Motorcycles

  • All-new XR150L offers value-focused dual-sport versatility
  • New CRF300L version with shorter seat height introduced

Honda’s already-broad range of small-displacement motorcycles expands for 2023, with a pair of approachable dual-sport bikes. As a pioneer in this category, Honda continues to lead the way in fun and efficient two-wheel transportation for a wide variety of customers.

Headlining today’s announcement is the XR150L, an all-new model for customers seeking an accessible, versatile and value-focused dual-sport motorcycle, ready for everything from urban transportation to weekend adventures on mixed terrain. In addition, Honda introduced a new, low-seat version of the CRF300L—the CRF300LS—making the industry’s most popular dual-sport platform an option for even more riders. Returning dual-sport models included in the announcement are the traditional-seat-height CRF300L and the rally-inspired CRF300L Rally (both available in standard and EBS versions).

Rounding out the announcement is arguably the most approachable street-legal motorcycle, the Navi. In just its second year on the U.S. market, this affordable miniMOTO has garnered a huge following, establishing itself as the industry’s top-selling on-road motorcycle.

“At Honda, we’re committed to producing motorcycles that suit riders of all experience levels and backgrounds, and the dual-sport category is a great example of that,” said Brandon Wilson, American Honda Manager of Sports & Experiential. “The CRF300L is hugely among those looking for an affordable, reliable dual-sport machine, and the new ‘LS’ version makes the platform an option for those who prefer a shorter seat height. Expanding on that theme, the all-new XR150L is a great dual-sport machine for value-focused customers. We’re also happy to bring back the CRF300 Rally entry-level ADV bike, as well as the popular and amazingly affordable Navi miniMOTO. These models make motorcycling more accessible to new and cost-conscious riders while still offering an enjoyable ride experience for long-time enthusiasts.”

STYLING
A classic upright dual-sport riding position promotes rider comfort and control, promoting vehicle maneuverability. The tall handlebar allows for a natural riding position, optimizing handling and control. The low seat inspires confidence by enabling stable footing for steady starts and stops. Adding to the high level of rider comfort, the foot pegs feature rubber isolators that dampen vibration, enhancing the smooth, comfortable ride.

The MX-inspired shrouds and front fender take after the CRF Performance line, while the modern headlight styling adds an aggressive look to the front end. An included rear rack provides convenient cargo space for luggage and supplies.

ENGINE
With bore-and-stroke figures of 57.3mm and 57.8mm, the 149.2cc air-cooled four-stroke engine offers legendary XR toughness and reliability and produces smooth, predictable power. Capable of highway speeds, the engine is tuned to competently handle around-town riding and confidently negotiate dirt roads and trails. Remarkably efficient, the small-displacement engine has a wide powerband and pairs with a largest-in-class 2.8-gallon fuel tank to deliver a tested 346 miles of fuel range. The XR150L features both electric start and a kickstart backup.

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION
Frame
The XR150L’s steel frame is designed to handle the intensity of off-road travel. A tubular-steel rear carrier is standard, providing a great platform to secure a small load.

Suspension
The XR150L’s suspension strikes a great balance, the 31mm conventional fork and single rear shock delivering 7.1 inches and 5.9 inches of front and rear wheel travel, respectively—enough to absorb the bumps and rocks of a dirt road or trail, but not so much that the seat height is excessive. Suspension settings are optimized for a comfortable, controlled ride on the pavement and in the dirt.

Wheels / Brakes
Even with the XR150L’s low seat height, it still boasts full-size wheels (19-inch front, 17-inch rear), allowing it to roll over potholes and rough off-road terrain, while also promoting stability at speed.

The dual-piston hydraulic front caliper is paired with a 240mm rotor for strong, precise braking. Out back, a 110mm drum brake provides reliable performance in a wide array of conditions.

ACCESSORIES
Honda offers a range of accessories for the XR150L, including a Dual Sport Tank Bag, Dual Sport Saddle Bags, Handguards, a Skid Plate and a 12V Accessory Socket.

PERFORMANCE

FOUR-STROKE ENGINE
The XR150L uses a four-stroke, single-cylinder engine that offers legendary XR toughness and reliability along with excellent fuel efficiency and a wide powerband.

FRONT DISC BRAKE
The front disc brake on the XR150L provides excellent stopping power. The disc rotor is drilled for lightness and better wet-weather performance.

CONVENIENCE

ELECTRIC STARTER
The XR150L’s electric starter makes it easier to get underway on a cold morning, or restarting off road.

VERSATILITY

STANDARD REAR CARRIER
Want to pick up a bundle of firewood at the camp store, or bring along a gym bag with lunch or some extra clothes? The XR150L comes with a tubular-steel rear carrier as standard equipment, giving you a great platform to secure a small load.

READY FOR THE STREET
The XR150L is fully equipped for the street—including turn signals, license-plate light, mirrors, speedometer and more. There are even folding footpegs for a passenger.

HANDLING

LONG-TRAVEL FRONT SUSPENSION
The bike’s fork strikes a great balance, with enough suspension travel to absorb the bumps and rocks of a dirt road or trail, but not so much that the seat height becomes excessive. On pavement, you get a plush, smooth ride.

17-INCH REAR WHEEL
The 17-inch rear wheel gives you a better overall ride and more sidewall protection against flats than a bike with smaller wheels, and still offers a wide choice of on- or off-road tires.

19-INCH FRONT WHEEL
The 19-inch front wheel rolls better over uneven surfaces than a smaller wheel, and still gives you a wide choice of tire selection for different riding conditions.

PRO-LINK® REAR SUSPENSION
Honda Pro-Link® rear suspension system offers compliant and comfortable ride quality with a high level of wheel control. Initial rates are soft for supple action over small bumps and ripples, while increasingly stiffer rates resist bottoming and maintain rear-wheel control over rougher surfaces.

STEEL FRAME
The XR150L’s steel frame is designed to handle the intensity of off-road travel. With bikes like our legendary XR600R, it was tough enough to win Baja—on a bike like this, it’s just what you want.

DESIGN

SEALED BATTERY
No maintenance hassles here, even in the case of an off-road tip over. The sealed battery has plenty of cranking power for the electric starter, and is well protected from the vibrations of off-road riding.

XR650L-INSPIRED GRAPHICS AND STYLING
Our XR650L is a legend in the dual-sport world, and in terms of style the XR150L is just about its twin, especially the white version. Check out the black seat, exhaust, handlebar, controls, frame and graphics.
