2024 Yamaha YZF-R1: TAKE YOUR RIDING TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
Introducing the new 2024 Yamaha YZF-R1…
R1 is the most focused and high-tech Supersport bike ever built by Yamaha, ever since the launch of the original model over 25 years ago. And just about everything on the latest R1 can directly trace its origins back to the racetrack, where Yamaha’s factory racing teams and test riders have been developing and testing the advanced technology that you can now see and experience on your R1.
Developed with advanced race-bred technology and featuring state-of-the-art engine, chassis and bodywork designs, this high-tech machine is built to take your riding to another level.
Racing DNA
Just about everything on the latest R1 can directly trace its origins back to the racetrack, where Yamaha’s race winning MotoGP® and WorldSBK bikes have been developing and testing the advanced technology that you can now see and experience on your R1. Yamaha Motor Company famously won its rst ever race just 10 days after the company was founded. That fact probably tells you all you need to know about Yamaha’s competitive mindset. And this total commitment to racing is what enables the world’s most innovative motorcycle manufacturer to create a machine like the R1.
The aggressive fairing with its central air intake is the most obvious connection with the M1 race bike – while the race-bred intelligent technology used in the seven electronic rider controls connects you and your R1 and ensures the highest degree of controllability. And with its sophisticated suspension, highly re ned EU5 engine, premium RS11 tires and dynamic new duo-tone Icon Blue colouring, the R1 is ready to give you the ultimate
supersport experience.
Right from the very start the R1 was developed without compromise, and this pure and focused design philosophy is what makes this high-tech race-bred Yamaha the most exciting supersport bike of our time.
Every piece of advanced technology on the R1 has been developed using the knowledge gained from Yamaha’s involvement in racing at the highest level. The remarkable 998cc 4-cylinder EU5 crossplane engine is a direct descendant of the M1 unit – while the aerodynamic bodywork comes
straight from racetrack development.
But above all, it’s the R1’s incredible array of smart electronics that make this bike so very special.
Equipped with everything from a ride-by-wire throttle through to a Launch Control System (LCS), Engine Brake Management (EBM) as well as Brake Control (BC) and much more, this is the ultimate Yamaha supersport that is built to lead the way on the road and track. And it comes in a sporty new
duo-tone Icon Blue with matte blue colour scheme, as well as the dynamic Yamaha Black option.

2024 Yamaha YZF-R1 Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits
Aerodynamic M1-style bodywork
The R1 looks ultra-sharp with its M1-style cowling and fully integrated fairing that give the bike an aggressive race-developed profile. By enabling you to tuck in close to the bike, this lightweight bodywork achieves the highest levels of aerodynamic efficiency for outstanding high-speed performance.
High-efficiency crossplane engine
A key feature of the R1’s 4-cylinder 998cc engine is the crossplane crankshaft with its uneven 270°-180°-90°-180° firing sequence that delivers strong, linear torque. Featuring a high-efficiency intake system along with specially designed finger-follower rocker arms, this race-developed engine delivers remarkable high rpm performance.
High quality finish
The R1 is manufactured to the highest quality standards using lightweight materials including titanium and magnesium, making it a high-tech supersport motorcycle that commands the utmost respect and brings a genuine pride of ownership. Next generation Icon Blue and Midnight Black colours and graphics underline the premium style of this iconic bike.
43 mm KYB forks
The R1 is equipped with high-specification 43 mm KYB forks featuring laminated type damping valves. Together with the advanced rear shock, this suspension system gives you a sensation of being connected directly to the road surface, making the R1 feel as if it is an extension of your body.
Brake Control (BC) System
Technology is transforming the way we ride, and the R1 features no fewer than seven electronic control systems. Featuring two modes, the Brake Control (BC) system analyses data, such as lean angle and slipping acceleration and modulates hydraulic brake pressure, to prevent wheel lock ups.
Engine Brake Management (EBM) system
Control is everything when you’re on the road or track, and the Engine Brake Management (EBM) system allows you to adjust engine braking force. Using data from various sensors, the EBM adjusts throttle opening, ignition timing and fuel injection volume to give you a choice of three engine braking modes to suit different riding situations.
Next generation LED headlights
The race-bred M1-style cowling is fitted with LED headlights that project a sharp and menacing look. The aggressive face of the R1 also features compact position lights that reinforce the bike’s street presence and underline its pure race-bred DNA and sophisticated design.
Ride-by-wire APSG throttle
The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) is activated by a high-tech twistgrip assembly that gives a natural feeling for precise control. Featuring a spring, slider and gear that give a smooth and progressive feel, the lightweight ride-by-wire APSG (Accelerator Position Sensor Grip) twistgrip gives instant throttle response.
Launch Control (LCS) system
By using data from a wide range of sensors, the R1’s Launch Control System (LCS) gives you a high level of control during racing starts. For the fastest and most aggressive launches, LCS1 mode is programmed to activate at 9,000 rpm with a throttle opening of 41 degrees.
High-friction brake pads
The dual 320 mm front discs with monobloc calipers are renowned for their remarkable braking feel and performance, and the R1 is equipped with a high friction pad material that delivers precise and powerful stopping – allowing you to explore the full potential of this legendary supersport.
Bridgestone Battlax RS11 tires
Whether you’re accelerating aggressively, braking hard or banking over at full lean angle on your R1, you need to have total confidence in your tires. Featuring a race-developed pattern together with a special compound, the Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 tires – with a 200-section rear – give you the highest levels of traction combined with outstanding feel.
TFT instruments with EBM and BC
The class-leading Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD display is one of the most sophisticated meter panels available and the full colour screen shows a wide range of information in an easy to absorb format, including indicators for the BC and EBM systems. When you want to adjust any of the electronic controls, simply switch to the YRC screen and select your preferences.
