Sachsenring sprint race with 3 RS-GP26 machines in top six positions

Saturday on the Sachsenring ended with a bittersweet balance for Aprilia Racing.

Starting from the eighth spot on the grid, Jorge Martín had a good start and a solid sprint race, finishing sixth and taking home important championship points.

Marco Bezzecchi suffered a crash in the opening minutes of Q2 on turn 7. The Italian rider was taken to the circuit medical center where, under the supervision of MotoGP Medical Director Dr. Angel Charte, and with the support of Lifenet Healthcare, Official Medical Partner of Aprilia Racing, he underwent an X-ray examination which revealed a complete and displaced fracture of the left clavicle. This type of fracture requires revision surgery, which will be done in Italy by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini on Sunday.

Also worth a mention is the performance of the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team riders, with Ai Ogura fourth and Raúl Fernández right behind him, contributing to a total of three RS-GP26 bikes in the top six.

First of all, I’d like to send all my strength to Marco, because I know well what it means to find yourself in that type of situation. I’m sure that he will be back even stronger than before, and the team will definitely feel his absence. This weekend is not going as I had expected. We strayed a bit from the path during the weekend and we decided to use an entirely different bike in view of the sprint race which allowed me to improve my speed slightly. We are still far from where we’d like to be, but we’ll try to make another step forward in the long race.
This was a bit of a complicated Saturday, especially with Marco’s accident, but these things can happen in motorsport, so we just need to buck up and he’ll have all of our affection and warmth for a return as soon as possible, even stronger than before. This track is certainly not a particularly favourable one for us, but we still put in a good performance, although we know we are struggling a bit with the soft tyre. As confirmed on other tracks, when the front tyre becomes a limiting factor, we have to work a bit harder. This is an aspect which, compared with our competitors, we still need to grow and keep working on.
