The JK Tyre Suzuki Gixxer Cup at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore in India at the weekend saw thrilling race action as Tanay Gaikwad clinched victory in the Gixxer class and Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup rider Ikshan Shanbag topped the podium.
For Race 1 of JK Tyre Suzuki Gixxer Cup 2019, Gaikwad (10:07.050) crossed the finish line first followed by Bangalore’s Syed Muzamil Ali (10:07.119) and Coimbatore’s Sidharth Sajan (10:15.558) finishing in second and third positions respectively. In the seven-lap race, Gaikwad finished just 0.069s from Ali.
Race 2 saw Gaikwad again rule the circuit by completing 10 laps in a 14:18.573 time with second-placed Ali finishing at 14:18.641 who got placed second and Shazan Khan (14:32.567) third.
The Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup proved to be a thrilling affair with Shanbag (10:35.841) completely dominating the tarmac while Aditi Krishnan gave an aggressive chase and took second position with a stunning total lap time of 10:51.180. Proving his worth on the track and securing the third place on the podium was Aryan Gurav completing 7 laps in a time of 10:53.688.
It was a similar winning streak in Race 2 as Shanbag (14:56:415) claimed victory after battling hard with Krishnan (15:20.919) for 10 laps and came out ahead of the other participants. Gurav (15:23.780) followed Krishnan to finish third on the podium.
The JK Tyre Suzuki Gixxer Cup, using identically-prepared Suzuki GSX150F machinery, has provided a much-needed platform to young motorsports enthusiasts for the last four years. Every year the championship is staged under the FIM and Federation of Motorsports Club of India (FMSCI) in association with JK Tyre Motorsports.
