Pirelli brings a new Moto2 front tyre to Misano

· Focus on front tyre development. At the San Marino and the Rimini Riviera GP, Pirelli will introduce a new front tyre for Moto2™ riders, continuing the intensive front tyre development programme that began at Aragón with the soft E1089 specification. The new F0749 specification retains the soft compound of the standard SC1 but features a new structure, with the aim of providing greater stability, particularly under braking. The front tyre allocation will be completed by the standard SC1, allowing for a direct and meaningful comparison between the two options. To allow riders to test the new tyre, the maximum number of front tyres available to each rider over the entire race weekend will increase by one, from 8 to 9.

· SCX and SC0 confirmed. At the rear, Pirelli will once again offer the two softer solutions used twelve months ago as development tyres: the supersoft E0126 (now the standard SCX) and the soft E0125, now the standard SC0. On that occasion, the E0126 was unanimously chosen by Moto2™ riders for both qualifying and the race.

· Confirmation in Moto3™. Moto3™ riders will be able to rely on the well-known combination of the soft SC1 and medium SC2 for both front and rear. Last year, both in qualifying (Valentin Perrone – KTM) and in the race (José Antonio Rueda – KTM), the winning choice was the combination of SC2 at the front and SC1 at the rear. However, Adrian Fernandez (Honda) stepped onto the third step of the podium with the opposite choice, SC1 at the front and SC2 at the rear, being one of only two riders on the grid to opt for the medium compound at the rear.

A new structure to improve front-end performance

“After Aragón, we will continue the Moto2™ front tyre development programme at Misano. At a circuit that we know very well, which hosts competitions in several categories and numerous manufacturers’ tests, we will introduce a new solution: the F0749 specification. This tyre also belongs to the ‘soft’ family, but it differs substantially from the E1089 used two weeks ago at Aragón: while the latter retained the structure of the standard SC1 combined with a new compound, the F0749 instead features a new structure paired with the soft compound of the standard SC1.
The work carried out by Pirelli engineers has focused on the goal of providing riders with greater stability, a particularly important aspect at a circuit that features the fastest corner on the championship calendar, as well as improved braking performance. The front tyre allocation, completed by the standard SC1, which was unanimously chosen by the riders last year, will allow for a direct and immediate comparison between the two solutions, enabling us to gather significant data to continue the development programme.
At the rear, the softer solutions are confirmed, having since entered the range under the SCX and SC0 names. It will therefore be interesting to assess their performance evolution both over race distance and on a single lap, the result of the continuous development work carried out by Pirelli engineers, also in collaboration with the teams”.
