2012 KTM 85SX 17/14 Review
The full-size pro-bike
No absolute beginners are to be found pootling around among the ranks of ambitious, young MX riders any more. This is where future champions fight for victory and the best chance for a place on the podium is on the 85 SX – as demonstrated convincingly by Henry Jacobi’s 2010 world championship title. The 85 SX masters the toughest MX tracks with unperturbed ease. The grown-up KTM mini-crosser combines fully-fledged MX technology with perfect controllability.

Engine with 6 gears and intake and exhaust control
The 85 SX’s sensational engine delivers its power over a wide rev range thanks to its intake membrane and intricate exhaust control. The six-gear transmission always has the right gear ratio available. No coincidence that the 85 SX is the king of holeshots in junior MX race series.
Frame, wheels and suspension components
The 85 SX’s lightweight and sturdy chassis consisting of a chrome-molybdenum steel frame with bolted-on aluminium subframe, 43 mm (1.69 in) fully-adjustable, upside-down fork from WP now with optimised tuning and WP PDS shock absorber featuring adjustable rebound and compression damping, masters even the toughest of MX courses without demanding too much of the rider.
Brakes
Focussing on optimisation of braking power and application, the front brake on the 85 SX has been equipped with a newly developed, radially mounted, four-piston brake caliper from Formula. In conjunction with the wave brake disc, the performance of the brake system has been improved even further.
