21 Years of The Speed Triple

In 1994 the original Speed Triple burst into showrooms and set the scene for 21 years of naked dominance by mixing cool, café racer culture with the muscular aggression of the streetfighter scene, wrapped up in sportsbike-style handling prowess. The combination was an instant hit, wowing all kinds of riders from the spectrum of biking. Whether you were a hard-core sportsbike enthusiast or a relaxed Sunday-afternoon cruiser, you could find what you wanted in the Speed Triple.

Since then, the Speed Triple has constantly moved with the times, evolving to keep pace with customer needs and the demands of modern riding, but always faithfully delivering the same core philosophy of raw, naked good looks coupled with outstanding handling. Each new evolution has benefitted from advances in engine and chassis performance, but all have retained the indomitable physical stance and raw attitude of the original inline triple, and each developing its own band of passionate owners and fans.

Today, that vision is brought full circle with the new Speed 94R and Speed 94RR each loaded with styling and design cues that echo the original and provide a fitting celebration of 21 years at the cutting edge of the class.

Speed 94R

The Speed 94R and Speed 94RR unite both ends of the Speed Triple story, combining the modern Speed Triple engine and chassis package together with stylistic and visual elements of the very first, original Speed Triple from 1994. The result is, literally, the best of both worlds.

The heart of the Speed 94R and Speed 94RR is a modern, fuel-injected three-cylinder 1050cc motor producing an astonishing 135PS and 111Nm of torque. The powerplant is matched to an aluminium trellis frame, beefy single-sided swingarm, fully adjustable 43mm upside-down Showa forks and monoshock, and Brembo radial calipers equipped with Triumph’s anti-lock brake system. The Speed 94R signature look is completed with a host of styling and design cues to echo the original 1994 Speed Triple, either in striking Racing Yellow or moody Jet Black, specially re-formulated to match the first Speed Triple paint schemes and finished with decals in the original Speed Triple script.

Speed Triple

The purest, hardest performing and most rewarding naked sports motorcycle of its time. Marking the new generation with a head-turning, angry style and marrying this distinctive silhouette to a snarling 135PS three-cylinder engine. The latest R model adds in the best components the motorcycle industry can offer, including Ohlins suspension, Pirelli tyres and Brembo brakes. Diablo Red detailing of the radiator shrouds clearly identify the performance pedigree of this outstanding roadster.

T1050

Debuting the snarling 1050cc triple in a dedicated performance chassis, the T1050 provided a contemporary update to the then signature twin headlight/single-sided swingarm Speed Triple profile. With an aggressive short, sharp chassis and distinctive underseat twin exhausts the 2005 model added a new level of raw aggression to the marque, delivering sublime handling with an unmatched and much-loved triple soundtrack.

T509

Taking the sports chassis of its Daytona stablemate the 1997 Speed Triple debuted design characteristics that have resonated with the model ever since. A purposeful single-sided swingarm combines the beauty of design with the stark profile of dominant twin “bug-eye” headlights. Combined with a lithe, twin tube frame snaking around a raucous three cylinder powerplant the Speed Triple now contained an explosive elegance and cemented the perfect blend of power and handling as the blueprint for the definitive factory streetfighter.

T300

The origin of the breed. Launched in 1994 the brutally simple Triumph Speed Triple featured a new blend of café racer style and streetfighter stance. With a three cylinder engine delivering power via a performance orientated chassis the Speed Triple instantly become the benchmark for the class. Generating an army of dedicated fans, the T300’s menacing profile and engaging ride have spawned generation after generation of Speed Triple and this iconic model is now celebrated in 2015’s new Speed 94R anniversary edition – a contemporary evolution that remains true to the original in every respect.

2016 Triumph Speed 94R www.Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

Overview

The Speed 94R comes loaded with styling and design cues that echo the original 1994 Mk1 Speed Triple.

Available in striking Racing Yellow or moody Jet Black, the two colours are specially re-formulated mixes created to match the very first Speed Triple paint schemes, and instantly tie the Speed 94R back to those iconic first machines.

Colour

In addition, the Speed 94R features carefully considered colour enhancements to further reflect its lineage, with the subframe painted in Graphite to match the frame, and the side panels colour-balanced to match the look of the first Speed Triple.

The Look

Other colour updates include black exhaust silencer wraps, a black filler cap, a colour-matched fly screen, seat cowl and belly pan, yellow pin-striping (Racing Yellow colour option only), Speed Triple logos in the original 1994 typeface, and a commemorative Speed Triple 94 tank-mounted plaque.

The Engine

The heart of the Speed 94R is, as it was 21 years ago, an exceptionally torque-rich inline three-cylinder engine.

Power

Benefitting today from cutting-edge advances in materials and design technology, the Speed 94R’s 1050cc triple produces an astonishing 135PS and 111Nm of torque with a wide spread of power specifically tuned to deliver explosive low-down thrust in any gear. Alongside Triumph’s sophisticated engine management and electronic fuel injection system, this guarantees colossal performance whenever and however the rider needs it, delivered with the classic smoothness and controllability for which Triumph is rightly renowned.

Exhaust

The twin silencers, wrapped in black exaust heat shields, sitbeneath the short, stubby tail section of the Speed Triple R and leave the rear wheel fully exposed on the right by the cool, single-sided swingarm.

Not for looks, for real world sports bike riding. It just happens to look great.

Chassis

Overview

Controlling the Speed 94R monumental engine performance is a well-established, tried-and-tested chassis set-up consisting of an aluminium trellis frame, chunky single-sided swingarm, fully-adjustable Öhlins NIX30 43mm forks and monoshock, and Brembo radial calipers equipped with Triumph’s anti-lock brake system.

Frame

The frame is the same doubled-tube, twin spar design recognisable from the 1997 model. Although the current version was updated in 2011, so it now uses the engine as a crucial frame component, making the chassis stiffer and lighter for a more focussed ride.

Handling

So whether you’re cutting through an urban jungle or carving lines along country roads, the Speed 94R always have the motive force and responsive handling needed to stamp your authority on the ride.

Brakes

The high-spec Speed 94R takes the Speed Triple concept to the ultimate level of chassis performance, adding uprated, black-anodized, fully-adjustable Öhlins NIX30 43mm forks, Öhlins TTX36 rear shock, Brembo Monobloc radial calipers, and sticky Pirelli Supercorsa SP tyres to the mix.

Riding Position

The Speed 94R is pure sports bike with a real world edge. So we designed the riding position for accurate control and aggressive performance in everyday riding situations. We set the bars low, the footrests in a rear set position and the seat is deeply shaped to keep you in position during hard use but still allows you to slide off the sides of the bike.

It’s a forward biased stance essential for keeping weight over the front of the bike, so you can feel exactly what the forks and tyre are doing and explore cornering limits, shifting weight to keep the front end in contact with the ground.

All from a road-going motorcycle that you can use in heavy traffic, slow speed town riding and occasional long distance trips.

Technology

Technology Triumph’s in-house expertise as leaders in motorcycle engine management and chassis control has never been better demonstrated than with the Speed 94R. Whether it’s from the Speed 94R’s finely tuned fuel injection system to its highly effective anti-lock braking, from the engine’s exceptional fuel economy to retaining its significant, characteristic inline triple exhaust note, or from the dynamic ergonomics to the Speed 94R’s inherent riding comfort, the level of sophistication is second to none. ABS The four piston, radially mounted Brembo front callipers, with optional electronic ABS make 100 calculations per second to prevent wheel lock up at either end. Immobiliser We’ve made sure your bike is protected by a coded key immobiliser system, should your Speed Triple R attract the wrong kind of attention. It disables the ignition if it detects an attempt to turn or force the ignition switch without the presence of the electronically coded correct key. Instruments and Computer We added all the instrumentation a rider needs. Including programmable gear change lights, service interval reminder, lap timer, trip computer and fuel gauge. All designed to be used by the performance rider, it’s part digital, part analogue and laid out in a highly intuitive fashion to make absorbing the array of information as easy and quick as possible.
