Go anywhere…

Honda today unveiled a new adventure-focused model known as the CRF250L Rally. Inspired by the factory CRF450 Rally machine raced in the Dakar by Team HRC, and based on the standard CRF250L (which has also been updated for the new model year), the CRF250L Rally is ready for weekend adventure, long-distance tour or the daily commute. Featuring styling that evokes images of adventure and travel, the bike has long-travel suspension, available large-disk ABS brakes, excellent weather protection and an impressive cruising range. Engine performance combines solid bottom-end torque with substantial top-end power.

Ready for weekend adventure, long distance tour or the daily commute, with long travel suspension, large-disk ABS brakes, excellent weather protection from the CRF450 RALLY-inspired bodywork and an impressive cruising range. Engine performance combines solid bottom-end torque with substantial top-end power.

With styling DNA drawn directly from the HRC CRF450 RALLY Dakar racer, the CRF250 RALLY brings something new to the market. It not only looks ready to compete in a desert stage, but also delivers a real taste of adventure to riders who prefer a light, easy-to-manage machine. Around the world or around the block, the CRF250 RALLY is good to go.

Bikes Built To Do It All. And To Have Fun Doing It

We think motorcycles should be about getting out and enjoying the world around you. The sun, the smells, the wind, the weather. More reality and less virtual. And you know what’s even better? If you could find one bike that could do it all. Let you go exploring in the dirt. Zip along mountain roads. Commute to work every day. And even save you some money at the gas pump. Well, guess what—the CRF250L and new CRF250L Rally are going to be the perfect bikes for all those things.

First, the CRF250L: We’ve given it some great new updates for 2017. Some highlights: A larger throttle body improves the feel of the bike’s low- and mid-range power, as does the new muffler design, revised airbox, and larger diameter exhaust header. And check out its new graphic treatment, matched up to our CRF450R MX bike. The all-new CRF250L Rally gets the same updated engine as the standard 250L, but it also gets a larger fuel tank, totally new Dakar-style bodywork, handguards, a windscreen, skid plate and even more suspension travel. And both give you a great upright seating position that’s comfortable for longer rides, ideal for both urban traffic or out on the trail. They’re even available with optional ABS.

Honda Introduces CRF250L Rally

“We’re pleased to announce this exciting new CRF250L Rally for 2017,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “Adventure touring continues to grow in popularity, and our customers have shown that small-displacement motorcycles can be extremely effective in this application, whether that means making epic journeys or the daily urban commute. We really wanted to build on the capabilities of the CRF250L and open up new opportunities for riders both young and old, and the CRF250 Rally brings the spirit of rally-raid racing to every ride.”

CRF250L Rally
Based on the updated CRF250L, the CRF250L Rally adds a wide range of changes that make it a unique proposition in the market, with styling inspiration from the Team HRC CRF450 Rally race machine. At the front, the rally-type “floating” screen, fairing and radiator shrouds provide wind protection, with the rest of the machine showing off minimal MX style. The asymmetric headlights are LED, as are the turn signals. A large fuel tank allows extensive range, and the new digital dash includes a fuel gauge and tachometer. Long-travel suspension and high ground clearance enhance its long-distance off-road ability, and a larger floating front disc—plus ABS that can be switched off for the rear brake—delivers stopping power. The engine boasts solid bottom-end torque coupled with substantial top-end power, thanks to updates from the original CRF250L including revised PGM-FI and throttle body, a new airbox and a lightweight exhaust.

Power your adventure

Compact and sophisticated liquid-cooled DOHC 249 cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine produces smooth and consistent torque at low rpm, plus excellent high-rpm performance. The engine’s wide spread of power makes the CRF250 Rally easy and confidence-inspiring to ride, while also returning impressive fuel economy.

Even better performance

Enhancements to the engine’s intake and exhaust systems boost horsepower by a full 10 percent over the 2016 CRF250L while also increasing torque at low rpm – all without changing the CRF250 Rally’s easy-to-ride nature.

Crisp operation

The engine’s Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system continuously monitors several variables to ensure the correct fuel mixture, thereby delivering optimal performance and remarkably crisp throttle response over a wide range of operating conditions. A large 38 mm throttle body and extended air-intake tube contribute to the engine’s significant power increase.

Smooth response

The PGM-FI system incorporates an Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) to smooth responses to small changes in throttle position.

Lightweight exhaust system

The exhaust system’s header pipe is tapered rather than straight, which combines with a compact two-chamber muffler to enhance overall power and torque while also reducing weight.

Compact design

Extremely compact roller rocker arm design for the low-friction valve train allows the use of a smaller cylinder head.

Quieter operation

The crankshaft runs in plain bearings for quieter operation and the big end of the connecting rod spins in a needle bearing, both contributing to the engine’s high-performance credentials.

Less vibration

A gear-driven counterbalance shaft helps quell engine vibration for enhanced rider comfort. It’s located so close to the crankshaft that the balancer weight passes between the two crank weights to keep the engine as compact as possible while improving mass centralization.

Upgraded suspension

To enhance the CRF250 Rally’s off-road capabilities, the Showa suspension has been significantly altered compared to the CRF250L, including increased front and rear travel, and a new link and connecting rod in the Pro-Link rear end The result is improved control over rough surfaces without hampering supple comfort on the road, plus an extra 25 mm of ground clearance.

Extra stopping power

The Rally’s adventurous spirit requires a powerful braking system, including a floating wave disc at the front with a larger 296 mm diameter (compared to 256 mm on the CRF250L).

Extended range

A large 10-litre fuel tank with hinged cap, combined with the engine’s excellent fuel efficiency, allow you to extend your adventures far off the beaten track.

Added protection

A sturdy engine skid plate and durable body panels help to protect your CRF250 Rally when the going gets really tough.

Added protection

A sturdy engine skid plate and durable body panels help to protect your CRF250 Rally when the going gets really tough.

Digital data at a glance

Behind the Dakar-style windscreen you’ll find a fully digital multi-function instrument panel that displays a wealth of information, plus a power socket and a mounting bar for attaching a GPS or other accessory.

See your way clearly

Bright, dual-chip, frame-mounted LED headlights are adjusted so that the low-beam lights cover a much wider range than usual, while the high-beam lights illuminate the road and the surroundings farther ahead.

Secure storage

A larger lockable storage area inside the left side cover provides ample room for tools plus a map, a spare pair of gloves, or other small items.
