Introducing the 2022 Suzuki GSX-S950…

The New GSX-S950 has a sharp modern style, abundant and useable torque, easy and confidence inspiring handling and helpful electronic rider aids for a fun and enjoyable ride. With 95PS (70kW) peak power it’s the ideal choice for newer or returning riders and can be switched to 47.5PS (35kW) to make this model available to A2 licence holders too.

Suzuki has announced details of a new A2 licence-friendly GSX-S950, which is available from August and features the ability to be restricted to 35kW to comply with A2 licence regulations. The GSX-S950 will represent a new proposition in the market, providing a ‘big bike’ experience at a restricted output for new riders, before becoming an ideal stepping stone to more powerful machines once derestricted.

Based on the GSX-S1000 platform – and using the same torque-laden inline-four cylinder engine – the GSX-S950 produces 95PS in standard trim, with restrictor kits readily available to ensure it conforms to the A2 licence category. However, despite a reduced peak power compared to its GSX-S1000 sibling, the 950 still makes use of the donor engine’s creamy midrange to produce 92 Nm of peak torque, with the same slip and assist clutch aiding smoother downshifts and slicker upshifts under hard acceleration.

The motor is also wrapped in the same twin-spar aluminium frame and uses the same superbike-derived swingarm and rear shock, but to help achieve a lower RRP – and therefore making it an even more accessible package – it uses 43mm KYB front forks. Other chassis changes include the use of Tokico front brake calipers and straight ‘bars, while the bespoke Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres, 19-litre fuel tank, and new seat remain.

An electronics package comprises a three-mode traction control system that adds a safety net, while convenience comes from Suzuki’s low RPM assist feature and easy start function. The ride-by-wire throttle from the GSX-S1000 is carried over.

Bodywork replicates the new, aggressive, and angular styling of the GSX-S1000, with the same stacked LED headlights front and centre. The taillight is also full LED.

Available in August, the GSX-S950 comes in a striking white and red, a matt black, plus a metallic triton blue, all adorned with the visually different 950 logo on the radiator shrouds.

2022 Suzuki GSX-S950 Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

Race-winning, track-proven bike DNA and engineering know-how focused to make the perfect bike for the street, the sharp physique of the GSX-S950 delivers a tight and striking visual package that will turn heads. It’s all about enjoyable performance, confident controllability, rider usability, and looks that can’t be beaten. With 95PS (70kW) peak power it’s the ideal choice for newer or returning riders and can be switched to 47.5PS (35kW) to make this model available to A2 licence holders too.

The 999cc four-stroke DOHC liquid-cooled inline-four engine that powers the GSX-S950 uses winning superbike DNA. This street-tuned engine is based on core architecture that benefits from know-how acquired over decades of developing the GSX-R1000 to win countless production race victories, and our championship winning MotoGP team. This street focused GSX-S950 is designed to perform in street conditions and is balanced to meet the needs of those wanting fun and usability rather than just outright peak performance.

Even at a stand still, just looking at the GSX-S950, you can sense how agile, controllable and fun it is to ride. Every aspect reflects engineering focused on delivering great handling and control, whether riding on city streets, negotiating twisty mountain roads, or taking the long way home from work.

The chassis features a compact, lightweight package that makes the GSX-S950 agile and predictable to handle. Its twin-spar aluminium frame helps deliver easy handling and great road holding ability, while its straight main tubes are ideal for achieving high rigidity and low weight. All this connects to a ruggedly braced aluminium swingarm that further contributes to the road gripping character that lets you ride with confidence.

The GSX-S950 has high specification radial-mount Tokico monobloc calipers. The calipers each have four opposed 30mm pistons acting on a 310mm floating-mount disc for strong stopping power, giving you the confidence and freedom to enjoy all the GSX-S950 engine and chassis has to offer.

The 43mm KYB inverted front forks give a ride that is smooth yet sporty, with 120mm of stroke. The link-type rear suspension with adjustable rebound damping and spring preload settings reacts efficiently to varying road surfaces to maintain an agile and stable feel while helping offer up to 130mm of rear wheel travel. The suspension settings are tested and tuned to best match the internal structure of the tyre and realise precise handling and improve steering into corners.

Cast aluminium wheels feature sporty good looks and a rigid lightweight structure, in a six spoke design. These are fitted to Dunlop’s new SPORTMAX Roadsport 2 radial tyres, these benefit from an updated internal structure custom engineered to perform optimally on the GSX-S950, as well as an optimised tread pattern with a new compound that enhances positive grip in wet conditions, warms up faster, and wears better. The combination of these wheels and new tyres works harmoniously with the front and rear suspension settings to help realise the great grip, stability and quick handling.

A 19L fuel tank is incorporated into the design of the GSX-S950 while still maintaining its sharp modern looks. This large capacity helps reduce the frequency of refuelling stops, letting you ride and enjoy even more.

The GSX-S950 adopts a collection of the electronic systems that enable you to optimise performance characteristics to best suit riding conditions and varying road surfaces, as well as your level of confidence and experience.
These benefit you by instilling greater confidence and allowing you to concentrate on enjoying the riding experience.

The goal of the design concept is to visually express the potential of a motorcycle capable of such performance, and to convey the refinement and sophistication of a product designed to handle more predictably, with greater controllability on any type of ride. Its sharp lines, radical new headlight design, and slim front and rear end sections highlighting the muscular bulk of its mid-section combine to create an aggressive stance that speaks of power and performance potential.
