Piaggio 1, the e-scooter for urban mobility from Piaggio, arrives at EICMA in a new, higher performance version for 2023 with the goal of ensuring even quicker, easier, and safer commuting.
Thanks to the changes made to the Power Unit, the electric motor that powers Piaggio 1 range, built in on the rear wheel, is now capable of providing better performance, which translates into a quicker and easier ride in city traffic that is characterised by frequent stops and starts, as well as more power on hills.
The moped versions (Piaggio 1 and Piaggio 1+), with speed limited to 45 km/h, can now count on almost double the peak power (2.3 and 3 kW, respectively) whereas the motorbike version (Piaggio 1 Active) reaches 3 kW peak power. The result is a significant increase in acceleration which goes up 14% on both Piaggio 1 and 1+, and almost 12% on Piaggio 1 Active.
Piaggio 1 combines the winning characteristics of the most modern electric scooters created to get around the city – agility, light weight, and practicality – with the quality and reliability of Piaggio scooters. First and foremost, this means safety, thanks to a solid frame and suspension designed for riding pleasure, but also an attractive design, comfort, and high-level rideability, as well as a full technological package that includes digital colour instrumentation, full LED lighting, and a key-less system. Piaggio 1 is also the only e-scooter in its category with a spacious under-seat storage compartment, large enough to hold a full jet helmet.
Piaggio 1 comes in dual range of colours: Forever Grey, Forever White, and Forever Black are the three most sombre colour schemes which highlight the minimalist and clean design, whereas Sunshine Mix, Arctic Mix and the new Flame Mix are three two-tone liveries that enhance its youthful and fresh spirit.
In all versions, the battery is located beneath the seat, easily removable in just a few seconds and portable so it can be conveniently charged at home or in the office.

With an underseat compartment large enough to house a full jet helmet, the Piaggio 1 Active is the only e-scooter in its category to offer such generous storage. Attention has also been given to the ergonomics, with the seat-footwell-handlebar triangle following the traditional proportions of a Piaggio scooter. The spacious footwell creates a comfortable riding position while passengers can rest their feet on sturdy foldaway foot pegs. Last but not leas are a handy bag hook and a USB port with a waterproof rubber cover in the leg shield back plate.
Streamlined and Stylish
The Piaggio 1 Active effortlessly combines electric mobility with the same original style, quality and engineering that are synonymous with the Piaggio brand. The front shield features the classic “neck tie” and provides protection that doesn’t come at the cost of elegance, while attention to detail is evident in elements such as the dual cover seat with its glossy side finish and the intriguing hexagonal pattern, inspired by the Piaggio logo, on the front shield and side panels.
E-mobility With All the Bells and Whistles
The handlebar houses a large 5.5-inch colour LCD digital display features a twilight sensor that optimises the background and font colours for the prevailing light conditions to ensure it is always legible, while the stylish, clear screen graphics are easy to read at a glance.
The combination of lightweight build, advance lithium ion battery and KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) funtion that recharges during deceleration, means the Piaggio 1 Active delivers excellent range.
Getting around has never been easier
Piaggio 1 is a user-friendly scooter in every sense, from the moment you turn it on. Its keyless mechanism means all you need is a handy remote, then simply use the MAP button on the right of the handlebar and select ECO or Sport mode. Designed with fuel savings in mind, ECO offers greater range, a top speed of 30 km/h and more progressive acceleration, whereas with Sport, you can enjoy the engine’s full grunt and a more powerful riding experience.
Easy recharge
Recharging the Piaggio 1 is an absolute breeze. You can remove the battery in a matter of seconds and plug it into a power socket at home, in the office or wherever else you happen to be. The 1 version’s battery weighs just 10 kg and has a 1.4 kWh capacity, while the 1+ and 1 Active batteries have a 2.3 kWh capacity and weigh 15 kg. The batteries are maintenance-free, need no particular looking after and come supplied with a charger.
The silent revolution
The 1 is powered by an electric hub motor, developed by Piaggio, which is built into the rear wheel hub, making for a clean, compact frame. The 1 and 1+ versions are fitted with an electric motor with a continuous power output of 1.2 kW, while the 1 Active model delivers 2kW. The combination of lightweight build, advance lithium ion battery and smart recharge during deceleration makes for excellent range across all three versions, with the 1+ delivering up to 100 km of riding on a single charge.
