2024 KAWASAKI NINJA 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION MOTORCYCLES – LEGENDARY SINCE 1984
In the 40 years since its inception, the Ninja moniker has become one of the most recognizable motorcycle names in the industry. Since first arriving on the scene in 1984, and officially rebranding the famous GPz900R, the Kawasaki Ninja brand of motorcycles continue to illustrate the pursuit of high performance in every displacement class. To celebrate this historic run in the powersports industry, Kawasaki is pleased to announce the 2024 Ninja 40th Anniversary Edition motorcycles.
In the late 1980’s, there is one Kawasaki machine that stood out in the United States: The Ninja ZX-7. Embracing Kawasaki’s relentless pursuit of innovation on the racetrack, the Ninja ZX-7 became the brand’s flagship in the FIM Endurance World Championship, finding its way to the top step of the podium in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Stateside, Kawasaki continued its championship run in AMA Superbike, adding four additional titles in 1990, 1992, 1996 and 1997 to make nine overall championships in the series. In 1993, Kawasaki rider Scott Russell captured the WorldSBK Championship aboard his Ninja ZX-7R, further proving the Ninja’s strength. Inspired by one of the iconic motorcycles that changed the racetrack scene, a special Ninja ZX-7-inspired colorway will be available on the Ninja ZX-4RR ABS, Ninja ZX-6R ABS, Ninja ZX-10R ABS and Ninja ZX-14R ABS.
A specially reproduced three-color livery will be found on each 40th Anniversary Edition model, with a large “Kawasaki” logo on the fairings. All logos featured on the motorcycle are reproduced from original drawings, and the various other elements were specially designed to bring back memories of the Ninja ZX-7 series’ historic list of wins. A special 40th Anniversary emblem designed to resemble a championship sticker can be found on the top of the fuel tank, and the displacement numbers featured on the tail cowl are based on the fonts used in the 80’s and 90’s. Specially painted lime green wheels on all models, silver-painted frame and swingarm on the Ninja ZX-10R, Ninja ZX-6R and Ninja ZX-4RR, and gold-painted front fork outer tubes on the Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-6R complete the iconic throwback look.
2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR 40th Anniversary Edition ABS Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits
ENGINE
Developed with data from its WorldSBK Championship-winning Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-6R, the all-new Ninja ZX-4R’s liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine delivers impressive power and torque. There is a very linear power delivery that provides great street-going performance at lower engine speeds while excelling as the revs climb to its over-15,000 rpm redline for exceptional sport or track riding.
• Aluminum die-cast cylinder has an open-deck design to surround the upper part of the cylinders with coolant for excellent heat dissipation. Chrome composite plated cylinder bores help reduce mechanical loss and add durability.
• Wide 57mm cylinder bore allows large 22.1mm intake and 19.0mm exhaust valves for greater air flow, while the short 39mm stroke helps produce high-rpm performance.
• Light flywheel with a low moment of inertia helps the engine rev quickly.
• Connecting rod ratio selected to help reduce mechanical loss and vibration, and the rods are case hardened for increased durability.
• Lightweight cast aluminum pistons contribute to low reciprocating weight for quick-climbing revs, and the skirts have a molybdenum coating for increased durability.
• Piston crown design and precision-machined combustion chamber helps achieve an optimized 12.4:1 compression ratio for high performance using pump gasoline.
• Very narrow 24.8 degree valve angle contributes to combustion efficiency and a more compact engine design.
• Like the Ninja ZX-10R, the intake ports have two-stage machining, first along with the valve seats and then again at an inclined angle, to create a straighter and wider intake path for smoother airflow and greater intake volume that contributes to higher performance.
• Lightweight forged camshafts and triple-rate valve springs contribute to high-rpm performance.
• 34mm Electronic Throttle Valves (ETV) help provide smooth engine response and facilitate the use of several of Kawasaki’s electronic rider support systems, which are controlled by a high-spec electronic control unit (ECU) that uses the same platform as that of the supercharged Z H2 motorcycle.
Ram Air Induction
• Centrally-positioned Ram Air duct maintains the Ninja ZX lineage and improves intake efficiency by helping to pressurize the cooler air ingested from the front of the cowling, resulting in increased engine performance.
• Dual-length intake funnels contribute to efficient airflow, help flatten the torque curve and helps smooth power delivery.
• Downdraft intake tract provides a shorter, more direct path for air to enter the cylinder for better filling efficiency and increased engine power, especially at high rpm.
Exhaust
• Header joint pipes linking headers 1-2 and 3-4 help boost low-to-mid-range torque
• Traditionally styled long muffler has the clear, racy exhaust note that’s synonymous with a high performance
Kawasaki inline four-cylinder engine.
Six-Speed Transmission with Assist & Slipper Clutch
• Smooth shifting transmission has idealized ratios to help maintain momentum when accelerating out of corners with sport or track riding.
• Using the rotational forces of the clutch hub and pressure plate, the clutch is forced together during acceleration (Assist function) so that fewer and
lighter clutch springs can be used for a lighter feel at the lever. During high back-torque, such as when too low of gear is selected, the slipper function allows some clutch slippage to help prevent engine lock-up and stalling, and rear-wheel hop.
• Use of a spring plate assembly in the clutch contributes to smoother clutch engagement and helps minimize clutch vibration (judder) noise.
ELECTRONIC RIDING AIDS
Kawasaki TRaction Control System (KTRC)(KP)
3-mode system covers a wide range of riding conditions, offering either enhanced sport riding or rider assurance by facilitating smooth riding on slippery surfaces.
• Modes 1 and 2 control ignition timing like S-KTRC, which uses complex analysis to predict when traction conditions are about to become unfavorable and act before wheel slippage exceeds the range for optimal traction. Mode 3 has higher sensitivity and controls ignition timing, fuel and air for ultra smooth operation.
• The system distinguishes between smooth, power front wheel lifts and sudden lift, allowing smooth lift if acceptable acceleration is maintained.
• A switch on the left handlebar switch housing gives the rider the option to turn the system off.
Power Mode
• Allows riders to set power characteristics to suit riding conditions and style. Riders can choose between full power operation or low power, which is approximately 80 percent of full with a milder throttle response.
Integrated Riding Modes:
Sport, Road, Rain, Rider (manual)
All-inclusive modes that link KTRC and Power Mode allow riders to efficiently set traction control, power delivery and suspension character to suit a given riding situation.
Riders can choose from Sport, Road, Rain or a manual setting (Rider). In the manual Rider mode, each of the systems can be set independently.
-Sport: enables riders to enjoy sporty riding.
-Road: offers comfortable riding over a wide range of situations, from city riding to highway cruising and rural roads.
-Rain: offers rider reassurance when riding on a wet road surface.
The riding mode can be changed while riding, using the button at the left side of the handlebar.
RIDING MODE KTRC POWER MODE
Sport 1 F
Road 2 F
Rain 3 L
Rider (manual) 1,2,3 or Off F or L
The Ninja ZX-4R features several of Kawasaki’s latest technological systems including a traction control system dual selectable Power Modes, Integrated Riding Mode, Kawasaki Quick Shifter and ABS.
Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) (RR model only)
– Allows riders to take even greater advantage of the Ninja ZX-4RR’s exhilarating engine character by enabling clutchless shifts.
– To help provide seamless acceleration, the system detects that the shift lever has been actuated and sends a signal to the ECU to cut ignition so that the next gear can be engaged without having to use the clutch.
– For easier deceleration, KQS detects shift lever actuation and automatically controls engine speed to allow riders to downshift without using the clutch.
– KQS does not operate below 2,500 rpm.
CHASSIS
While the Ninja ZX-4R’s light, quick handling is beneficial on the highway, its high-level supersport character really shines when sport or track riding. High-grade suspension and brake components contribute to the superb performance and provide excellent feedback for a confidence-inspiring ride that invites riders to explore all that the Ninja ZX-4RR has to offer.
Trellis Frame
• High-tensile steel trellis frame designed using Kawasaki’s advanced dynamic rigidity analysis combines pipes of various diameter and thickness to provide the required balance of strength and chassis flex.
• Key chassis dimensions – center of gravity position, swingarm pivot position, engine axis positions, caster angle, etc – were inspired by Kawasaki’s WorldSBK Ninja ZX-10RR racer for optimum performance.
• The long-style swingarm allowed the bike’s front-rear weight distribution to be set for a balance of nimble handling and composed chassis behavior. The arched design of its right arm delivers the required balance of rigidity and flex, and enables the muffler to be positioned more centrally while
contributing to stylish, sporty looks.
Showa – Big Piston Separate Function Inverted Fork(KP)
• Large-diameter damping piston reduces damping pressure compared to a that in a regular cartridge-type fork of the same size, yet the same damping force is applied. Reduced damping pressure provides smoother fork action, which is especially noticeable at the initial part of the stroke, for a calmer pitch change when decelerating and braking. This helps provide greater chassis stability on corner entry and a more planted feel when braking.
• Suspension settings idealized for rural roads and city riding while maintaining high performance on the track as well.
• The Ninja ZXTM-4RR models also have adjustable preload.
Wheels/Tires
• Attractive star-pattern five-spoke wheels are light and rigid to benefit handling.
• Dunlop GPR300 radial tires provide high grip in both dry and wet conditions, contribute to the agile handling, add to ride comfort, and their wide sizing not only adds to the performance but to the impressive supersport style.
Ergonomics
• Naturally aggressive riding position is more forward-leaning than that of the Ninja 400, but still relaxed overall, so riders can take full advantage of the Ninja ZX-4R’s sporty handling even during urban riding.
• Slim fuel tank promotes good contact so the rider feels more connected with the bike, while the low top helps the rider tuck in below the windscreen.
• Firm seat facilitates rider weight shift during track riding yet is comfortable enough to allow riders more lengthy time in the saddle for street and sport runs.
• Aluminum footpegs provide direct feel to further connect he rider with the bike.
• Five-position adjustable brake and clutch levers allow riders set lever reach to hand size and preference.
Horizontal Back-link Rear Suspension(KP)
• The Horizontal Back-link rear suspension positions the shock unit and linkage above the swingarm, where minimal effect from engine and exhaust heat helps maintain stable damping performance.
• The rear shock settings help provide a firm, planted feel that is reassuring during sport riding, while also offering ample absorption for good ride comfort when riding in town.
High-Performance Supersport Brakes
• Dual 290mm semi-floating front discs gripped by fourpiston, radial-mount monobloc calipers with differentiated diameter pistons (30mm lower, 32mm upper) provide strong stopping power.
• The monobloc calipers help provide a firm initial brake touch at the lever, while the brake pad spec contributes to both brake force and controllability.
• A 220mm rear disc with 38mm piston caliper slows the rear wheel.
• Nissin motorcycle-specific ABS control unit provides precise ABS control and is the most compact and lightweight unit available.
BFRC Shock Shown on ZXTM-4RR
Styling
• Aggressive Ninja motorcycle styling exudes a fierce aura of restrained power and explosive action.
• Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle distinctive centrally located Ram Air intake duct, sharp chin spoiler and twin LED headlight position contribute to the strong Kawasaki Ninja model family image.
• Low fuel tank and tight-fitting bodywork with sharplyangled lines contribute to a condensed, high-class appearance.
• LED front turn signals are built into the fairing edges, while the side air ducts direct cool air into the engine room and promote the dissipation of engine heat.
• Slim, upswept race-inspired tail cowl contributes to the aggressive image and houses a Ninja ZX-10R style LED taillight.
Color TFT Instrumentation
• High-grade full color display features TFT (thin-film transistor) technology, delivering a high level of visibility. The screen’s background color is selectable in black or white, and screen brightness adjusts automatically to suit available light.
• Display functions include: digital speedometer, digital bar-style tachometer, gear position indicator, shift indicator (tachometer flashes), fuel gauge, odometer, dual trip meters, current and average fuel consumption, remaining range, average speed, riding time, coolant temperature, clock, battery voltage, lap timer (Circuit Mode only), Kawasaki service reminder, oil change reminder, integrated Riding Mode, KTRC, and Power Mode indicators, smartphone call and mail notices, Bluetooth indicator, Economical
Riding Indicator and KQS indicator.
• In addition to scrollable multi-function windows, two display modes offer riders a choice of how they want their information presented.
– Type 1: Designed for ordinary use with an easy-to-read, calm layout offers a substantial amount of information at-a-glance.
– Type 2: Designed with circuit riding in mind, important information like tachometer, current and best lap times, and gear position is prioritized and presented graphically for easy digestion.
