2001 KAWASAKI KLR650
Affordable Adventure Machine

When it comes to a motorcycle that can provide the ultimate adventure at a superb value, nothing comes close to the Kawasaki KLR650. Designed for both street and off-road riding, the KLR650 adds long-distance touring to its repertoire with a large-displacement engine that comfortably cruises at highway speeds, a specially-padded wide seat for extended saddle time, a large 6.1-gallon fuel tank, handguards, and a mini fairing to help block the rider from the wind.

Many riders have chosen the KLR650 to carry them on extended transcontinental rides due to its touring prowess and proven reliability.

Power comes from a strong, dual overhead cam, four-valve liquid-cooled engine that provides a wide range of power suitable for negotiating slow trails all the way up to highway cruising speeds. An engine crankshaft counterbalancer and electric starter provide additional rider comfort and convenience.

The KLR650’s frame is made of round section high-tensile steel, the same strong yet lightweight material used in Kawasaki’s world-class KX motocross line. A detachable rear sub-frame simplifies maintenance by providing better access to the airbox, carburetor and rear shock. Adjustable, long-travel suspension ensures a plush ride both on the street and on trails.

Whether cruising the open highway or venturing way off the beaten path, the KLR650’s 6.1-gallon fuel tank provides plenty of range for adventure touring. A U.S. Forest Service-approved spark arrestor assures access to any Forest Service road open to licensed vehicles, while a sturdy engine guard protects the engine cases from loose rocks and gravel when traveling more adventurous paths. Add an optional Kawasaki tank bag and soft luggage to the large standard rear rack and KLR650 owners can tote enough gear for an extended trip to any remote location.

Whether it’s cruising the city streets, the open highway or rugged unpaved outback, the Kawasaki KLR650 does it all. With rugged “adventure touring” features built in, the KLR650 can cruise in comfort and confidence, on- or off-road.

The Best of Both Worlds

The best of both worlds: You want a bike that’s good in the dirt, and you want it to be street legal for running into town or down the highway, too. Kawasaki has the answer with do-it-all dual-purpose bikes that come packed with exclusive features for you to explore new heights of on- and off-highway riding and exploration.

The KE100 is one of the most enduring and best selling models offered from Kawasaki. Its rugged two-stroke engine is perfect for simple around town transportation or doing a little off-highway adventuring.

The all-new Super Sherpa™ redefines the dual purpose motorcycle. Not only is it built to tackle a wide range of terrain, but it is engineered to appeal to a broad spectrum of riders.

If you are looking for a lightweight four-stroke 250, then you’ll be delighted with the KLR250. It’s got the goods for on and off highway excursions, like plush long travel suspension and high ground clearance.

Or the KLR650. It takes you wherever, whenever in smooth, torquey comfort. And with its huge 6.1 gallon fuel tank, the journey continues long after the others stop. So make your own world perfect. On one of Kawasaki’s impressive dual-purpose machines.

Touring With Kawasaki

The “Call of the Open Road” means different things to different people. And Kawasaki offers more touring options to fill your desire to explore those out-of-the-way places that just beg to be explored.

If you love to pile up miles, look no further than the Kawasaki Voyager® XII. Naturally, you want full-dress luxury and convenience. But thanks to the narrow in-line four configuration, the engine is positioned more forward for superior handling and improved rider comfort. Plus, you can load it up with all the essentials to make your touring experience a true comfort.

“Seeking out the curves” best describes your type of touring. Where the road you ride counts as much as the destination. Seek out Kawasaki’s Concours™: Ninja®-bred performance and handling manners in a package that combines refined sporting tradition with grand touring comfort.

Or do you prefer the lines of the classically styled Vulcan™ 1500 Nomad or Nomad™ Fi with its rumbling V-twin instead? It will take you places in comfort and make sure you get there in style.

And at Kawasaki there is more than one way to go V-twin touring. Look no further than the Vulcan 750 with its available Tour Package that makes your cruiser tour worthy. It’s in a class of its own.

For the truly adventurous, Kawasaki offers the KLR650 with available soft luggage to take you to those hard to reach places where the roads may or may not be paved. You’d be surprised what you may find at the end of the road.
