THE 2001 SPORT LINE: KATANA, TL1000S, SV650, SV650S

Suzuki Katanas have long been known as motorcycles with the right combination of performance and value. A Katana combines sport-bike responsiveness with an ample amount of comfort that a motorcyclist needs for a weekday commute, or a weekend pleasure ride. Look at a Katana and you’ll see handlebars and footpegs that place the rider in a comfortable upright position, and a contoured seat that helps the rider stay focused on the ride. If you prefer the same level of comfort and versatility, but with V-twin performance there’s the compact SV650, new SV650S and sport-oriented TL1000S. Both of these streetwise, 90° V-twin powered machines offer plenty of value with unmistakable V-twin sound and feel.

SV650

The SV650 combines the visceral appeal of a small 90¼ V-twin engine with a lightweight aluminum frame and an ergonomically friendly seating position. The SV650 is powered by a double-over-head- cam, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine with 4-valves per cylinder operated by a lightweight chain-type cam drive system. To generate strong low-to-mid rpm power, the SV motor has been equipped with 39mm downdraft-style carburetors and a beautiful stainless steel 2-into-1 exhaust system.

Holding it all together is a lightweight truss-style aluminum frame and square-tube aluminum swingarm, plus 41mm forks, adjustable rear shock absorber, dual disc brakes and wide radial tires mounted on cast aluminum rims. Everything you’d want in a lightweight, nimble handling machine. Priced similar to the Bandit 600, the SV650 is a versatile machine that can put the fun back into weekday commutes or weekend pleasure rides.
