– 2004 Triumph Daytona 955i

It’s rude to stare, though with the 2004 Daytona 955i’s newly chiselled twin beams, uncluttered cockpit layout, sleek mirrors, colour-coded air scoops and svelte new seat cowl, forgivable.  Its beauty is much more than skin-deep though and under the Daytona’s sharper exterior there beats a highly refined fuel-injected 955cc three-cylinder heart.  It provides a heady peak power output of 149PS (147bhp) along with a great spread of power throughout the rev-range. Peak torque of 100Nm (74ft.lbf) is delivered at 8,200 rpm.  Triumph has long perfected the balance between power and usability and instant drive in any of the Daytona’s six gears is the reward of the three-cylinder engine layout.

The Daytona’s chassis, likewise, provides the perfect blend of stability and responsiveness.  Front and rear suspension, 45mm telescopic forks and monoshock respectively, are fully adjustable.

As befits such a powerful machine tyre sizes are 120/70-ZR17 (front) and 190/50-ZR17 (rear), allowing use of the very best sports rubber. Twin four-piston calipers stop the front wheel via 320mm floating discs and a single twin-piston caliper works the rear 220mm disc.

A range of Triumph accessories to further sharpen the Daytona’s focus are available, including a high-level oval carbon can (for circuit use only) and double-bubble style screen. Other items – like custom-fit soft luggage – extend the Daytona’s range as a long-distance, real-world sports bike.

Since it was first launched some six years’ ago the Daytona has proven consistently to be the intelligent superbike choice, offering as it does a unique riding experience and, in terms of ownership, major satisfaction. Nothing has changed and for the beautiful new 2004 Daytona 955i – which is available in Jet Black, Tornado Red or Racing Yellow – it’s business as usual. A special edition Daytona, with Jet Black paintwork and textured black finish on the frame, wheels and swingarm will also be available.

Changes for 2004:

– Re-styled cockpit and seat hump for sleeker, more aerodynamic profile.

– Revised headlamp shape, restyled mirrors and new graphics to enhance Daytona family resemblance.

– Improved cockpit infill and colour-matched air-intakes for added refinement.

– Vibrant Racing Yellow paint scheme.

– Special edition available with Jet Black paintwork and black finish on frame, swingarm and wheels.
