2006 Ducati Monster S4R

The S4R is the top of the range Monster – the most powerful, highest-performance Monster ever. It all starts with the 996 cc Superbike engine and lightweight Superbike-derived trellis frame to ensure the perfect combination of power and handling. A Showa fully adjustable front fork with low friction TiN treatment and a fully adjustable Showa rear shock handle suspension duties. The exclusive Ducati Superbike rising rate, ride height adjustable rear suspension system includes a new single-sided aluminum swingarm. An extraordinarily beautiful “two into one into two” exhaust has been designed for the S4R. With both silencers positioned high and on the right side of the bike, the system has an aggressive and powerful new look.

The S4R boasts a wide array of performance features and is available in a new range of colours: solid glossy black, and either blue or red with a white racing stripe.

The 996 cc, liquid-cooled, Desmoquattro, fuel-injected, L-twin engine is derived directly from our World Superbike champion race bikes. With muscle to spare, the S4R delivers tractable power and torque over the widest rpm range, so you are “on the gas sooner” and shift less.

Deciding which Monster is right for you is just the beginning of the adventure. Beautiful hand air-brushed tanks, billet aluminum parts, carbon fibre accessories, multiple exhaust systems and literally hundreds of customizing parts to change the look and enhance performance are available. A Ducati Performance customizing catalog is standard equipment with your new Monster.

MSRP $13,495 USD

THE ORIGINAL “NAKED” MOTORCYCLE
The Monster is the original, unique “naked” motorcycle. Launched to rave reviews in the 1990s, it has become a cult classic. Today, more than ever, it is a modern motorcycling legend, the bike of choice of top designers, Hollywood stars and Formula One racing drivers.

The Monster is a “street fighter” that offers outstanding sport bike performance together with a style that has often been imitated but never equalled. In addition, the Ducati Performance Accessories catalogue, which is included with each bike, is bursting with ideas to customise your bike and improve its performance. You can get gorgeous, airbrushed fuel tanks, accessories machined from solid aluminium, carbon fibre, high performance exhaust systems and hundreds of special parts to make each and every Monster even more unique.

The Monster family offers a choice of air or liquid-cooled, two and four-valve Desmo engines. The Superbike derived trellis frame, powerful engines with fuel injection, plus braking and suspension systems that are all derived from our experience in the racing world.

2006 MONSTER MODELS
For 2006 the Monster family includes the 620 and 620 Dark, joined by the aggressive, high performance SR models: S2R, S2R Dark, S4R and the new 1000S and S4Rs Testastretta.

Features:

As a key member of the SR range, this model maintains a reference role also in the MY ’06 range. If the SR4RS Testastretta version currently constitutes the quintessential machine in terms of technology, performance, and equipment, the S4R maintains a place of honour in the Monster SR family. This bike, an icon in terms of its raw uncluttered appeal, is designed to constitute a trailblazer in this specific market segment. The over and under silencers that emerge alongside the seat, the compact headlight shell, the exclusive colour schemes, the presence of top quality suspension systems, and the powerful Desmoquattro series engine are all details that have transformed the Monster S4R into an authentic cult machine. This is an important machine that continues to hold a place of honour in the range of Ducati MY ’06 bikes, captivating the interest of even the most demanding Ducati enthusiasts

Style

The dominant style echoes the features that underpin the Monster’s success, characterised by a mix of very spartan bodywork with a large number of business-like mechanical parts that are clearly visible together with the handsome trellis frame. On the S4R the exposed parts are more numerous and, more importantly, since they derive directly from the world of the racetrack, of the highest possible quality. The styling is therefore absolutely uncompromising, echoing the riding style, which differs from that of all the other Monster machines. The absence of fairings and covers draws attention to a long series of special parts, starting from the Superbike series powerplant with its highly individualistic curved oil cooler. The eyes are also drawn immediately to the two exhaust silencers emerging from the right side, the single-sided aluminium trellis swingarm, the headlight shell, and the large number of carbon fibre components. An exclusive touch is provided by the variable section aluminium handlebar. The business end of the machine is completed by a classic racing style instrument panel, spartan enough but complete with all the information needed by those who rely for their day-to-day transport needs on this fascinating… Superbike without the fairings!
The Ducati Monster S4R is available in three colour schemes also in the M.Y. 05 range: red, blue, and black, all with a white racing stripe.

Chassis

The round tube trellis frame is easily able to handle all the stresses induced by an engine that is remarkably lively, although partially tamed to improve performance on the road. But since the Monster S4R is also designed to offer outstanding track performance, the brakes and suspension are absolutely superb, with characteristics that are similar in all aspects to the original equipment of the top Ducati Superbikes. The ground clearance of the S4R is increased to make it compatible with extreme sports riding, with accentuated lean angles without the risk of clipping the road surface with any part of the machine. The chosen suspension systems reflect the very best available on the market, with Showa 43 mm upside-down forks the stanchions of which have been subjected to TiN treatment to eliminate any traces of surface roughness and ensure the maximum precision of sliding movements. Designed to appeal to knowledgeable, demanding riders, the suspension features adjustment facilities for all damping functions to allow the attainment of the perfect balance between the front and rear suspension. For the same reason, the Showa rear shock allows the rider to obtain the ideal setup by adjusting preload, compression and rebound, and also the ride height of the rear end.

Powerplant

The twin cylinder engine mounted in the S4R frame hardly needs an introduction. It hails from the Desmoquattro family of engines, mounted on the Superbikes that have achieved such superb results on race circuits all over the world. To provide the necessary credentials to power a machine that has plenty of raw grunt, although not limited exclusively to track racing, the four valve per cylinder desmodromic engine features even fatter torque output than in the past. The result is a thoroughbred naked sports bike, with rated power output of 117 HP at 8,750 rpm, and delivering 10.1 kgm of torque at 7000 rpm.
