2006 Ducati Multistrada 620

The new entry-level model retains all the outstanding performance, total control and maximum comfort of the Multistrada 1000 DS, yet has the added benefit of being noticeably lighter and lower: a full 13 Kg/28 lbs lighter and 20 mm lower. Riders can devour the bends with outstanding agility and an added sense of security no matter what the situation.
The 620 air-cooled Desmodue features a sophisticated injection system developed by Ducati racing. Light in weight, and with potent power delivered over a wide rmp range, the Multistrada 620 is both versatile and economical.

Both versions of the Multistrada 620 have inherited a wide range of Ducati Performance accessories from the classic 1000 DS, allowing the rider to personalise the Multistrada, emphasizing either its touring or sport side.

2006 MSRP $8,495 USD

TRATIONAL DESIGN UNMISTAKABLE STYLE

Ducati set out to create a revolutionary motorcycle –
to be innovative, to set new standards that will inspire others to follow, to create a generation of sports bikes capable of tackling all road conditions. And the result is the Ducati Multistrada. Whether your journey takes you up twisty mountain roads, to busy city centers or on your daily commute, the Multistrada excels wherever there is asphalt. Delivering performance without sacrificing practicality, versatility without compromising road-manners and advanced design without forfeiting function, the Multistrada is a real-world motorcycle for real-world riders. In addition to the now acclaimed 1000 DS, Ducati has launched a new, agile 620 entry-level model and a high-performance 1000 S DS version for 2005.

Take a seat on the new Multistrada and experience how effortless and natural the forward, upright riding position feels. Enjoy the super-friendly handling, take pleasure in stress-free motorcycling: with the Multistrada, you can have it all.

The new Multistrada is admired for its unmistakeable, original look. More than just style, the Multistrada offers a design that makes sense.

Features:

Both entry level Multistradas are powered by a 620cc twin. While some aspects of these models are engineered to keep price down, the small Multistradas share the same inimitable style, technical content and versatility as the 1000 DS. While the 620 cc Multistrada and Multistrada Dark may lack some of the power of its bigger sister, the ease with which they can be handled on all types of road make them extremely attractive propositions to all riders.

Styling

The bodywork of the Multistrada (the 620 cc models are simply named “Multistrada” without any reference to engine size) is substantially similar to that of the 1000 cc version, but many chassis components are dedicated parts. Examples include a hydroformed double sided swingarm similar to that of the Monster, and die-cast footrests that integrate rider and passenger pegs in a one-piece casting. Though these components distinguish the smaller models, all Multistradas share the same overall styling and you have to look under the skin to find the real differences. The reduced fuel consumption of the 620 models allows tank capacity to be reduced to 15 litres, more than enough for excellent range even without the under-tail tank. These savings are reflected in the low price of the entry level Multistradas. The instruments are dedicated units too, and are more conventional, without some digital functions. Other features of the models powered by the 620 cc powerplant are a handlebar-mounted choke lever and three-spoke alloy wheels. The Multistrada Dark, the matt black version with the lowest price of all is also distinguished by a large diameter, single disc front brake that enhances the bike’s minimalist supermotard looks.

Chassis

Sports performance is in the DNA of all Ducatis, and the lightest of the Multistrada family are no exception. Impressive handling is guaranteed by using a frame whose dimensions are derived from the trellis frame of the 999 Superbike. The Multistrada and the Multistrada Dark both have a double sided hydroformed swingarm instead of the single-sided unit fitted to the models at the top of the range, but the actual frame dimensions are identical. The back end is damped by a Sachs monoshock with adjustments for rebound and spring preload. At the front we find a Marzocchi upside-down fork with 43 mm stanchions. Both models share the same single rear disc brake but differ in the solution adopted at the front wheel. The Multistrada is equipped with two 300 mm discs and floating calipers. The Multistrada Dark has a single disc, but larger in diameter at 320 mm.

Engine

The Desmodue 620 is without a doubt the perfect engine for a motorcycle that is designed to be safe, easy and enjoyable to ride, for all riders and on all roads. It is certainly the most flexible of all Ducati twins, and is designed to deliver great satisfaction to experienced riders, while perfectly fulfilling the needs of the novice. With more than enough power for the job, this engine has recently been updated and made even more enjoyable by the addition of an APTC clutch that significantly reduces the effort needed to operate the clutch lever and also features “slipper” design to prevent rear wheel lock-up when downshifting the gearbox.
