Agius and Rueda win the lightning-fast Australian Moto2™ and Moto3™ races

Despite strong gusts of wind, both races were significantly faster than last year’s, with new fastest race laps set in both

· Australian Senna Agius (Kalex) won his home Moto2™ race in the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2025, ahead of Kalex riders David Alonso and poleman Diogo Moreira. All riders in the race used soft SC1 front and medium D0922 development rear tyres, the softest compounds for this GP’s allocation.

· The new World Champion José Antonio Rueda (KTM) won the 21 laps of the Moto3™ race, taking home his tenth win of the season. Behind him were poleman and home idol, the Australian Joel Kelso, and third-placed Álvaro Carpe for an all-KTM podium. Most of the riders, including the three podium winners, used medium SC2 compound tyres for both front and rear. Maximo Quiles (KTM), fifth, finished best among the riders who opted for the hard C1096 rear (along with Adrian Fernandez, Guido Pini, Brian Uriarte and Valentin Perrone).

· Both races were significantly faster than in 2024 and new best lap records were set in both. In Moto2™, the new fastest lap record was set on the second lap by Albert Arenas (Kalex), finishing eighth in 1’30.253. The race was almost nine seconds faster than last year’s, slightly under four tenths better in terms of lap average. In Moto3™, third-placed Álvaro Carpe (KTM) set a new fastest lap in 1’35.323 on lap three, and the overall race time was down 10.5 seconds, with an average lap improvement of half a second.

· The races took place with air temperatures in the order of 20°C and asphalt temperatures of about 25°C, in line with those of Friday’s Practice, and with very strong wind gusts, especially during the Moto3™ event.

Much faster races than 2024 and new race lap records despite strong winds

“Despite the strong gusts of wind, requiring the riders to put even more effort into controlling their bikes on a demanding circuit such as Phillip Island’s, both races were significantly faster than last year and new race lap records were set in both. In Moto2™, this result is certainly also partly attributable to the new medium D0922 development rear tyre, which allowed riders to gain significant improvements – about one second on the all-time lap and almost 6 tenths on the best race lap – and to reduce the overall race time, making it nine seconds faster than in 2024. The Moto3™ event garnered even better results, although in this case the riders used the same tyre options as last year’s, so the improvement is mainly due to greater confidence with our tyres and the bikes evolution. This circuit is very demanding on tyres, however, despite a bit of graining in Moto3™ mostly due to the wind and the rather low temperatures, the end-of-race wear proved to be quite uniform, meaning that the tyres worked well and offered solid and consistent performance throughout the race, as proven also by Rueda’s last lap in Moto3™ in line with the race record lap set by Carpe on the third lap. In conclusion, we can’t help but be very satisfied with our tyres’ performance. Now Malaysia awaits us with different technical challenges and certainly much warmer temperatures”.
