Daniel Holgado wins Moto2 race starting from pole position and going against the tide

Thanks to the new E0125 soft rear tyre, the Moto2™ race was 12 seconds faster than last year, with Muñoz setting a new race record lap

· Daniel Holgado (Kalex) won the Moto2™ race starting from pole position and going against the tide front tyre-wise. Indeed, while the rear tyre choice was unanimous, with all riders opting for the E0125 soft development specification over the standard one, at the front almost everyone chose the standard SC1 soft, except for six riders, including winner Daniel Holgado (Kalex), who went for the medium SC2 instead.

· The winner of the 18-lap Moto3™ race was Ángel Piqueras (KTM), who, starting from third position on the grid, took the lead on the last lap, crossing the finish line ahead of José Antonio Rueda (KTM) and Taiyo Furusato (Honda). Differently than the latter two who mounted soft SC1 rear tyres, the winner opted for the medium SC2 option. Almost all riders used medium SC2 compound tyres at the front, with the exception of Honda’s Riccardo Rossi and Nicola Carraro, who went for the soft SC1. At the rear, 16 riders chose the medium SC2 and 10 the soft SC1, including poleman David Almansa (Honda) who finished fourth.

· Thanks also to the performance of the new E0125 rear soft, the Moto2™ race finished in 36’21:444 – a good 12 seconds faster than in 2024 – and Daniel Muñoz (Kalex) set a new race lap record in 1’42.355 on lap three, improving last year’s record set by Fermin Aldeguer by more than three tenths.

· The Moto3™ race took place with 29°C asphalt temperature, while the Moto2™ race with 35°C, both closer to those of FP1 and FP2 and about 10 degrees lower than those witnessed in Practice and Qualifying.

The new rear soft’s positive trend in Moto2™ continues

“In Moto2™ and Moto3™ races in Barcelona, the tyres have lived up to the expectations and challenges this circuit has to offer. In Moto2™, the new E0125 soft development rear tyre – which we introduced for the first time this year at Silverstone and which has also been used in several subsequent GPs – continues to be highly appreciated by the riders, who unanimously preferred it throughout this weekend in Montmelò to the standard soft SC0. Moreover, it also contributed to improving the overall race time by 12 seconds and to set the new race record lap, bettering the previous one by more than three tenths. A further confirmation, therefore, of the excellent performances this tyre can offer and of its versatility and adaptability to different circuit characteristics. This makes us think that next year it could become the new standard SC0. In Moto3™, we saw that both rear compounds made available to the riders could be valid alternatives for the race, as proven by the standings, since two out of the top five riders raced with the medium SC2 and three with the soft SC1. At the front, the medium SC2 proved to be the best choice not only in Moto3™, where it was used by basically all the riders in the race, but also in Moto2™ given Holgado’s rather clear victory. With this GP behind, we are now already focused on next weekend at Misano, where, in addition to the races, we will begin testing our MotoGP™ tyres in use from 2027 onwards the following Tuesday”.
