Guevara and Quiles’ victories with unconventional tyre choices

· Guevara wins with the soft development front. Spanish rider Izan Guevara (Boscoscuro) won the Moto2™ race at the Austrian Grand Prix using the new soft E1089 development front tyres, which he had already tested out when he took home a second place in Aragón. Together with Adrián Huertas, Guevara was one of two riders to go for this solution, which combines the same structure as the standard soft SC1 with a different compound. Choice of the rear tyre was unanimous, with every rider running the SCX supersoft. The winner also set the new race lap record at 1’32.879, improving on previous one set by David Alonso in 2025 (1’33.549) by almost seven tenths of a second. Pole-sitter Filip Salač finished second, ahead of David Alonso, with both riders on Kalex.
 
· Quiles’ ninth symphony. Starting from fourth on the grid, Máximo Quiles (KTM) claimed his ninth Moto3™ victory of the season at the Red Bull Ring. Like Guevara in Moto2™, he went for an unconventional tyre choice, being the only rider on the grid to use the medium SC2 on both axles. All the other riders opted for the soft SC1 rear option, while front tyre preferences were split almost evenly between the SC1 and SC2. Pole-sitter Brian Uriarte finished second and Álvaro Carpe third, completing an all-KTM podium. Before a crash put him out of the race, David Almansa (KTM), with SC1 on both axles, set the new race lap record of 1’39.485, lowering Taiyo Furusato’s previous record (1’40.048) by almost six tenths of a second, improving also on the all-time circuit lap record set by Uriarte in qualifying.

· Race performance was significantly better than in 2025. This year’s races registered a marked improvement in overall race times compared with the previous edition. In Moto2™, the race was completed in 35’53.421, almost 12 seconds faster than in 2025, with the race pace improving by more than half a second per lap. A similar result was achieved in Moto3™, where the total race time of 33’24.323 was more than 12 seconds faster than last year’s, resulting in an improved pace of around six tenths of a second per lap. 

Fast races, new records and positive feedback on development tyres
 
“Feedback on the Red Bull Ring weekend was extremely positive from a sporting and technical perspective. In Moto2™, we gathered particularly significant data on the new soft E1089 development front, on which Izan Guevara took victory. Beyond the race results, which is first and foremost the product of the rider’s performance and the team’s skill, it was important for us to confirm that this solution was at least as competitive as the standard reference tyre, while also showing scope for further improvements. This confirms that the development programme we have undertaken is moving in the right direction.
In Moto3™, Máximo Quiles’ victory on medium SC2 tyres at both ends confirms how competitive and versatile our entire range is. The fact that a technical choice different from the one made by most of the grid proved successful demonstrates that every available solution can be a valid option, based on the rider’s characteristics and the race conditions.
Another significant factor were the lap times recorded on track. The races were considerably faster than in previous editions, with new records set for the all-time lap, race lap and overall race distance. These results reflect the progress made over recent seasons and confirm how teams and riders are able to exploit the potential offered by our tyres, year on year, raising the performance level of both championships even further”.
