Maiden Pole for Arenas in R9 1-2 at Balaton Park WorldSSP

Albert Arenas secured a career first pole position as Round 4 of the 2026 FIM Supersport World Championship got underway at Balaton Park, Hungary – leading an R9 1-2 with Can Öncü set to start from second on the grid.

Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing) has been a revelation over the opening four rounds of the season, securing at least one podium finish at every event so far this year although a maiden victory has so far eluded the 2020 Moto3 World Champion.
Sitting ninth after Free Practice, improvements for Arenas come Superpole saw him take pole position in the closing moments of the session with a 1’42.050, placing him 0.205 seconds ahead of Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider Can Öncü.
Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha) heads up row three in seventh. Aldi Satya Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing) showed strong early in FP1, rounded out the day 14th ahead of Lucas Mahias, who’ll start 15th on the second GMT94 Yamaha.
Race 1 gets underway at 14:00 CET on Saturday.

Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing) – Pole Position (1’42.050)
“It was a really nice Friday, I am very happy with the work from the team who gave me a really fast bike today, I could ride very well to take my first WorldSSP pole position. It feels a little bit weird to be on pole, but it is a nice feeling. We worked a lot on race pace this morning and I felt good on the bike straight away, and the team then made a perfect bike for Superpole. It’s nice to start from pole position, especially here as the track is quite narrow so ideally I will be able to get a good start and try to push from the early stages!”
