Moreira wins the very fast Moto2™ race and stakes a claim on the title, Quiles' success in Moto3™

The Moto2™ race was more than 23 seconds faster than last year’s race and Veijer improved the race record lap by almost 1 second, in part thanks to the new Pirelli soft rear

· Diogo Moreira (Kalex) won the Moto2™ race of the Grand Prix of Portugal 2025 after starting from pole position. With this victory, his fourth this year, the Brazilian rider stakes a strong claim on the world title as he already has an advantage over the other contender Manuel Gonzalez of 24 points with only one race left before the end of the Championship, and with 25 points still up for grabs. Behind Moreira were Collin Veijer, second, and David Alonso, third, also on Kalex. All the riders in the race used soft SC1 compound tyres at the front and development soft tyres in E0125 specification at the rear.

· Thanks to the performance of the E0125 soft, the Moto2™ race was more than 23 seconds faster than last year’s race, which also took place over a distance of 21 laps and in almost identical weather conditions to those of today but using the standard soft SC0. The average lap improvement is 1.1 second and the second classified Collin Veijer set the new race record lap in 1’41.225, improving by almost a second the record set by Fermín Aldeguer last year (1’42.221). A total of 18 riders completed at least one lap below the previous race record lap.

· The winner of the Moto3™ race was Máximo Quiles (KTM). The tyre choice was very varied, with most of the riders (18 out of 25) using the soft SC1 at the rear, while at the front the preferences fell almost equally between the soft SC1 and the medium SC2. Winner Quiles chose medium SC2 compound tyres for both axles, while second-placed Angel Piqueras set a new race record lap in 1’46.881 on lap 17 using medium SC2 front and soft SC1 rear. Taiyo Furusato (Honda), with soft SC1 on both axles, completed the podium.

· The Moto3™ race was 3.8 seconds faster than last year’s race for an average lap improvement of two tenths of a second.

Greater race speeds and renewed track records with new rear soft for Moto2™

“The E0125 rear specification in soft compound, present in the Moto2™ allocation for the tenth time this year, confirmed all its qualities and, also in Portugal, it was the unanimous choice of the riders for the race as well as for the whole weekend. And it is certainly also thanks to this tyre that in Moto2™ the riders have been so fast since Friday despite sub-optimal weather and track conditions, setting both the new all-time lap record and the new fastest race lap with significant improvements in both cases. A benefit offered by the E0125 specification, not just for a few riders but shared across the entire grid, with the race being more than 23 seconds faster than the 2024 edition and with 18 riders lapping under the previous fastest race lap. Last year the race was held with temperatures almost identical to this year, and always over a distance of 21 laps, but the riders had used the standard soft SC0 so a direct comparison was possible between the two solutions, noting how the new development soft is not only able to offer more grip on the flying lap but also greater performance consistency over the distance. This has made it possible to significantly improve the overall duration of the race. Although less significant because the tyres used were the same as those already seen in action last year, we also saw improvements in Moto3™, a new race record lap was set and the overall race duration decreased by almost 4 seconds compared to 2024. Now we move to Valencia for the last GP of the season that will decide who will be the new Moto2™ World Champion”.
